Item #: SCP-XXXX [DRAFT #2]
Object Class: Safe, further experimentation required
Special Containment Procedures: There are currently no possible ways of containing SCP-XXXX, containment of SCP-XXXX may not be necessary. SCP-XXXX-1 is to research SCP-XXXX-2 in a 4 metre by 4 metre containment cell which contains all the fundamentals for an average adult male to live, and is to be fed 3 times a day. All personnel affected by SCP-XXXX-2 are to take any form of medication to treat SCP-XXXX-2.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a question proposed by a researcher during a period of insomnia, the question being "What is nothing?". The researcher in question after encountering and pondering SCP-XXXX developed a number of mental symptoms. The symptoms being: mental stress, , inability to focus, insomnia, sleep deprivation, existential dread, and obsessive pondering of SCP-XXXX, each symptom causing a notable amount of both mental and physical discomfort.
The affects of SCP-XXXX have become a case of hysteria, the researcher who first discovered SCP-XXXX, now designated SCP-XXXX-1, being patient zero. The symptoms of SCP-XXXX are now designated SCP-XXXX-2. SCP-XXXX-2, originating from SCP-XXXX-1, is spread through discussion, questioning, and even mention of SCP-XXXX in any way, shape, or form, including textual questioning, discussing, and mention. As of now, SCP-XXXX-2 experienced by researchers have been the most strenuous, but SCP-XXXX-2 is easily treatable with various medication. Further research is required. SCP-XXXX-1, no, I have been getting the worst of it. I can't stop thinking. I haven't slept in 4 days and all these medications don't feel like they're doing anything other than making me want to vomit from all the chemicals inside me. Why is this designated safe? We can't contain it. I'm sure of that.
Test A - 08/██/████
Subject: Infection speed of SCP-XXXX-2 and Cause of Infection
Procedure: An affected individual is placed in an enclosed space with four dozen D-Class
personnel and mention SCP-XXXX.
Results: After approximately 10 minutes all D-Class personnel in the enclosed space began experiencing SCP-XXXX-2. This averages to approximately 4 individuals infected per minute. The individual within the group, originally the only one affected, developed a more strenuous strain of SCP-XXXX-2, causing more discomfort. All strains of SCP-XXXX-2 caused only minor discomfort, the "patient zero" of the test experiencing the most discomfort by the end of the experiment. All infected individuals began experiencing SCP-XXXX-2 after exposure to some form of textual or audible mention of SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX-2 was never experienced through sight of other individuals experiencing SCP-XXXX-2. No infected individuals became infected until the individuals heard audible mention of SCP-XXXX. Textual mention, questioning, and/or discussion of SCP-XXXX was not used in this test.
Analysis: SCP-XXXX behaves similarly to other historical events of mass hysteria in terms of speed. SCP-XXXX only causes instances of SCP-XXXX-2 within individuals if the individuals have heard or seen textual or audible mention, discussion, and/or questioning of SCP-XXXX. Individuals not get infected through visual stimuli of a personage experiencing SCP-XXXX-2. SCP-XXXX has been previously proven to cause SCP-XXXX-2 through text. Therefore, SCP-XXXX does not behave as a normal outbreak of mass hysteria would, as visual stimuli of symptoms does not cause SCP-XXXX-2, only mention, etc. causes SCP-XXXX-2.
Addendum: Instances of SCP-XXXX-2 have been gradually increasing in intensity, but not at an alarming or dangerous rate. Personnel are advised to take more medication in order to counteract SCP-XXXX-2. Prescription medication is advised but not essential, as long as the medication treats the symptoms that have been designated as SCP-XXXX-2. Further research of SCP-XXXX is required and interviews with infected individuals are soon to come. Access any future drafts below.
