Item #: SCP-███
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: The entrance to SCP-███ has been marked off with caution tape, an "Out of Order" sign has been affixed over the plaque, and the activation button has been disabled.
Only 'Pataphysics Department personnel with Level 3 or higher clearance are to know of SCP-███'s existence.
Description: SCP-███ is a subterranean complex of unknown age, purpose, and origin located beneath Site-77. SCP-███'s access point is an elevator resembling those found elsewhere in the facility, located at the end of a hallway in the lowest basement level. This elevator has only one external button. A brass plaque reading "Department of Abnormalities" is bolted to the outside of the elevator door.
There are ten floor selection buttons in the elevator, labeled from 0 to -9. Floor 0 is Site-77's basement; the other floors are located below it.
Each floor consists of a short hallway ending at a sealed iron door, beyond which is a small room that seems to serve as a simple containment chamber. A single light bulb is mounted on the ceiling of each hallway, and on the ceiling of some of the containment chambers. These bulbs have never burned out, and their power source is unknown. There is no obvious means of turning these lights off.
Each door has a small glass viewport, which can be blocked by a sliding metal panel. The doors are also labeled with brass plaques that seemingly refer to the contents of the chambers beyond.
Addendum ███-1: Contents of SCP-███
The containment chambers on each floor, their labels, and their contents are summarized below.
| Floor | Label | Contents |
|---|---|---|
| -1 | The Curse | A rowboat constructed of black wood lies overturned in the center of the chamber. The boat's nameplate reads "Vampyre". |
| -2 | Hell | Instead of a room, the area behind the door is a cave entrance. The cave continues for an unknown distance, sloping gently downwards without varying significantly in dimensions or general direction. An inscription has been carved on the wall ██ meters beyond the door, but it is illegible at that distance and angle. |
| -3 | The Devil Machine | Unknown; the viewport has been welded shut. A pool of black liquid1 has collected on the ground in front of the door. Though the light bulb remains fully functional, the hallway on this floor is unusually dark. |
| -4 | Promethean Alloy | A 5x5x5 stack of 125 metal ingots, composed of an unknown grey-white material with a green tinge. |
| -5 | Lilith | A small chamber with a bed, toilet, desk, and sink, as well as a full-length mirror. A pale-skinned woman with Arabic features is seated on the bed, hugging her knees to her chest and staring intently into the mirror. She is wearing a tattered gray jumpsuit and has an unknown device fastened over her mouth. Small, bony protrusions resembling vestigial wings extend from her shoulder blades, protruding from holes in the jumpsuit. When the exploration team attempted contact, the woman began to rock slowly back and forth but did not otherwise respond. |
| -6 | The Cure?2 | A robed figure lies motionless in the center of the room, curled into the fetal position and facing away from the door. When the exploration team attempted contact, the figure twitched violently but otherwise did not respond. |
| -7 | Jack | A chamber similar to -5, but lacking a mirror. A desiccated human corpse with long, blonde, curly hair and wearing a tattered gray jumpsuit is lying face-up on the bed. On the wall opposite the door, a large heart shape with the letter "J" inside has been painted with a dark substance. |
| -8 | Succubus | Unknown; the viewport has been welded shut. |
| -9 | Mr. Brass | The disassembled parts of an unknown large clockwork device are scattered across the floor. Parts consist primarily of heavily tarnished brass. |
| -10 | see Addendum 2 | see Addendum 2 |
When the exploration team reached floor -10, the plaque on the door read "PACt-MAN," and the room beyond contained what appeared to be a broken Pac-Man arcade cabinet. The cabinet was already semitransparent at the time of discovery, and continued to "fade" over the next several hours. When it became completely invisible, the plaque suddenly changed to read "The Deep End" and the diving board from a swimming pool manifested within. The diving board rapidly turned transparent and vanished just as the arcade cabinet had previously, at which point the plaque changed again to read "The Zany Zoo" and the room filled with the skeletal remains of numerous small animals.
This same process has occurred a total of ███ times since discovery, with individual manifestations rarely lasting longer than 24 hours but always followed immediately by another. Manifested objects vary widely in appearance. In some cases, the containment chamber increases in size to accommodate especially large objects or transforms into a different structure entirely, often of a size and appearance that suggests extradimensional properties.
Efforts to identify patterns or trends in the characteristics of manifested objects and their labels have so far been unsuccessful. However, each new manifestation is followed by the appearance of writing in white paint on the door, beneath the plaque, which later vanishes simultaneously with the object. The writing is not always in the same hand, but it is always some variation of the following phrase:
The "fading" process begins immediately after the appearance of this writing.
