Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: Marauitus has been evacuated of all civilian population and quarantined under Cover Story XXXX-9982-Abeba. Historical accounts and other reports of SCP-XXXX are to be doctored for removal of any references to anomalous properties. The Foundation currently maintains a small base of operations on the island to monitor the anomalies.
The contained SCP-XXXX population of Site 24 is not to exceed one-hundred. Instances found to be in poor health are to be neutralized and all eggs laid collected. Depending on the current population of SCP-XXXX and amount of eggs currently in storage, the collected eggs may be incinerated or frozen for future propagation.
SCP-XXXX-01 through SCP-XXXX-100 are currently contained in Site 24’s Bio-Containment Wing in Enclosures A1 and A2. The enclosures are to be outfitted with a canopy layer of trees and fruit-bearing plants endemic to Mauritius, as well as a controlled stream of water. Bi-monthly cleanings of SCP-XXXX’s enclosures are to be carried out by specifically trained D-Class personnel.
Description: SCP-XXXX refers to the formerly extinct flightless bird, Raphus cucullatus. (the Dodo) The species possesses brown plumage, a green beak, a naked head, stout yellow legs, black claws, and a tuft of curly feathers on its rear end. SCP-XXXX is able to move forward through time when startled, with the amount of time traveled depending on the intensity of fear inflicted. Though originally thought to be extinct, SCP-XXXX was found to have leaped forward in time, first reappearing in 2019.
SCP-XXXX form monogamous mating pairs and breed, females have been observed to lay one large egg per mating season, which produces an altricial hatchling. Young SCP-XXXX grow quickly; reaching asexual maturity within five months. SCP-XXXX posses a 25-30 years and will mate twice yearly upon reaching sexual maturity at 2 years.
Though additional manifestations were sparse, SCP-XXXX began manifesting daily in 202█. Site 24 became overcrowded and Site 105, the nearest Bio-Containment capable Foundation Site, was unable to accept transfers. Containment of SCP-XXXX quickly became overly resource-intensive, using almost 80% of Site 24's Quarterly amnestics allowance. The Ethics Committee raised concern over the constant exposure of civilians to amnestics as well as the high cost of transporting SCP-XXXX, leading to Proposition Yuba-56.
