Description

SoI-002 was an enigmatic species that attempted to colonize Earth during the late Neoproterozoic Era,1 ~700 million years ago. Due to the timespan between their arrival into the solar system and the present day, a majority of their artifacts and structures have been lost. Surviving relics suggest their civilization possessed highly advanced technology that commonly integrated esoteric practices and psionics, the latter of which seems to have been innate to all SoI-002 members.

Although SoI-002 was predominately Ortothan, minority groups existed that worshiped the Koru-teusa but aimed to use the manipulation of biological matter and the worship of a flesh deity to provide the gods with a continuous supply of blood. These groups were ostracized and destroyed out of the belief they followed the Voruteut. No connections with human Nälkä are known to exist, but it is hypothesized that anomalous entities responsible for Nälkä culture were involved in the development of these minorities.

The cause of extinction and the failure in colonization is unknown. Continued activity from SoI-002 anomalies is under investigation.

Overview

Sol-002, aptly named "Cones" for their body shape, are an ancient and advanced psionic species hailing from an unknown planet, with a large majority of the species being followers of the intergalactic religious order known as the "Church of the Second Hytoth". In this modern day and age, the Cones are a very rare and possibly extinct species, with most activity coming from anomalous relics as opposed to fully living individuals. But long ago, they were once a grand empire of missionaries and conquerors, with a widespread and known presence throughout the Milky Way.

History

  • Background

They predate the human race and possibly the planet Earth itself by several million years, and even during their failed attempt to colonize Earth during the Neoproterozoic Era, they were already capable of long distance interstellar travel and genetic engineering. There are few other species that even come close to Sol-002 in terms of religious dedication, and the entirety of their culture revolves around Orthothan belief. They genetically modify specific members of their own species for religious purposes, and their technology is operated via esoteric rituals and psionics. Their relations with other ancient species of extraterrestrial are poorly understood, though it is known that their attempted colonization of Late Neoproterozoic Earth was at least partially responsible for the forced exile of the Methanogens (SCP-2735). There are currently two items in Foundation custody associated with this species, SCP-4421 and SCP-2651.

Biology

Sol-002 are carbon-based, biologically immortal arthropoids with namesake 1m tall conical bodies, ten segmented limbs, and a mandibled mouth located at the flattened bottoms of their bodies. Their morphology seems to indicate an evolutionary origin from radially symmetrical organisms with quadrilateral symmetry, having secondarily evolved partial bilateral symmetry in their upper limbs and some of their internal organs.

Their main body is divided into 3 different segments, each roughly correlating to a head, a thorax and an abdomen. The "head" segment contains the brain and reproductive organs, and lacks any scent or sight organs, instead possessing four quadralaterally-oriented fin-like appendages called "neural broadcast antennae". The neural broadcast antennae each contain extensions of the brain itself, and allow the Cones to perceive neural signals from other organisms and visualize their environment using a psionic equivalent of sonar. Their "thorax" contains 4 lungs and 6 arms (which are positioned radially) and bears 6 of arms that end in small, nimble chela (claws). Each arm is roughly 3 meters long and flexible, loosely resembling hoses in appearance. Notably, the length and weight of these arms would make it impossible for Sol-002 to stand upright, so it is believed that the movement and weight support for these limbs is aided by psionics. Their "abdomen" bears four insect-like legs that are situated quadrilateral along the base rim of the body. At the very center of the flattened underside is a mouth with four chitinous mandibles. Their digestive system is roughly similar to that of some echinoderms, consisting of a simple sac lacking an anus. As a result, they eat and defecate through their oral cavity.

Sol-002 possess external exoskeletons made of a hard chitin with teal pigment, and lack bones. Their four legs and "pelvic" region however, possess a rudimentary mesoskeletal structure that allows for a more advanced muscle configuration; the internal support structures of the limb mesoskeleton consist of chitin strengthened by a natural carbon fiber. Their blood consists of a pink slightly viscous broth of fat, amino acids, and a previously unidentified metalloprotein called "haemoeryrin". The substance itself resembles hemerythrin upon first glance, but absorbs oxygen much more effectively, and remains pink in both oxygenated and deoxygenated states, albeit less saturated in the latter. The circulatory system of Sol-002 is intermediate between a closed and open system, consisting of both complex blood vessels and large flooded cavities called haemocoels.

Sol-002 have two sexes adjacent to male and female, with XX/XY sex chromosomes and an XY sex determination system. Despite being clearly faunal in physiology, the means by which Sol-002 reproduce resembles that of flora. Males produce fluffy, pollen-like gametes, while females either produce eggs that resemble dandelion seeds, or reproduce parthogenically via the growth of tumorous egg pods. Even after reaching adult age, an Sol-002 individual will continue to grow throughout its life, growing by roughly 2 in every three years. Due to their biological immortality, exceptionally long-lived Sol-002 can grow several times larger the average 1.5 meters, sometimes growing so big that they can only move with the aid of psionics.

Description: The Leviathans, are members of a species of gargantuan, space-dwelling, colossal arthropods whose average length exceeds 8,000 kilometers2 or even bigger.

Are mysterious, ancient lifeforms which roam the galaxy, before the Gods were born. Leviathans fed on cosmic dust and nebulae. They are
highly powerful and mobile. Some cultures worship Leviathans rather than Gods.

Known to be both peaceful and highly sociable, these creatures live in pods of up to thirty individuals and feed off cosmic radiation, traveling from solar system to solar system through interstellar distances. Despite being widely acknowledged as a sapient species, no civilization has successfully communicated with a Leviathan. These creatures possess massive, empty chambers within them, brimming with the seeds of life: strange stones and vegetation, breathable air, and bioluminescent lighting. The number of chambers each creature has, and exactly how each looks, varies from member to member. However, once they reach the end of their life cycle, these creatures will beach themselves on planets, where life will slowly begin to form within them and be released once the creature expires.

There are potentially thousands of other Leviathans out in the universe. It is not known how they are born, but it is known that large pods will live in relatively empty solar systems close to the star before departing for their ark-based purposes.

The only known Leviathan specimen observed by the Foundation is SCP-169, referred to as "Levi." Believed to have resided on Earth since the Precambrian era, Levi currently lies dormant, producing seismic tremors that resemble "breathing" every three months.

SCP-1342-3, also known as the Gliscian, are an extraterrestrial race inhabiting the planet of Gliese 445-C in the SCP Foundation series.

After coming into contact with Voyager 1 in the distant future they were able to learn from its messages, coming to learn about humanity and seeing them as beautiful and superior creatures. Even when humanity itself began destroying them due to fear, the Gliscian still loved humanity and hoped to send a copy of the Voyager to the past in order to convince humanity that they could coexist peacefully.

The Gliscian were an alien and somewhat primitive race that lived on planet Gliese 445-C that resembled Earth. After 40,000 years after being launched the space probe known as Voyager 1 came into contact with the Gliscian who began studying it messages. From the Voyager they learned about humanity and their culture. They became enamored with humanity and their nature and achievements, and seeing the beauty in the human race the Gliscian sought to emulate themselves after the humans. They created structures and technologies based on the information contained within the Voyager and soon tried to communicate with humanity on Earth. After finally coming into contact with humanity the Gliscian experienced a scientific revolution which led to their world becoming a near-utopia where they began experiencing a better and more peaceful life until becoming equal to the humans themselves, and even achieved space and time manipulation.

However, in the year 42,412 AD when humanity saw that the Gliscian became their equal they feared that the aliens may surpass them and so decided to commit mass genocide against them. As the Gliscian were being slaughtered by humanity their culture also completely collapsed while their planet was destroyed by the humans' advanced weaponry which resulted in it being unable to support life anymore. The remaining 300,000 seeing that their entire race would inevitably die sought to use their time-travelling technology to destroy humanity in the past, so that they could survive despite their own development becoming stymied. Thankfully, as the Gliscian were about to kill humanity in the past they were reminded of the first time they had come into contact with Voyager 1 and learned about the beauty of humanity. They were unwilling to kill this race as they deemed it beautiful and so they instead decided to send a copy of the Voyager 1 which contained the history of their own race and culture along with the message that explained their end, hoping that this message would convince humanity to spare them in the future. The probe was successfully sent on September 25th of 1982 before crash landing into east of Baker Island, Pacific Ocean. There the SCP Foundation personnel recovered it and designated it as SCP-1342-1 and the golden record containing the information as SCP-1342-2. After learning about the Glascian, who were designated SCP-1342-3, the Foundation decided to keep the message secret and had Project Heimdall to form its Contingency Planning Operation regarding the Glascian, while observing their planet for suspicious activity.

Their First contact with the Human race (more specifically, the SCP Foundation) was an event of rather humorous circumstances, and was the result of the routine testing of SCP-3788, a water gun that can produce spatial anomalies. Upon firing the object, a submarine-like craft shot out, which contained roughly eight passengers. While initially knocked unconscious by the oxygenated atmosphere on Earth, the Foundation managed to bring them back to full health in large tanks of liquid ammonia. Upon Full recovery, the alien castaways taught the Foundation their language so that the exchange of information would be less difficult. From there, the Foundation Found out that these aliens originated From Titan, and learned of various aspects of Titanian culture and civilization. Eventually, the Titanians were safely transported back to their Moon.

The Ambulomola siliconis is a highly unusual carbon-based organism featuring an insulating silicon endoskeleton. Standing 3 meters tall, they are tripedal, possessing three deer-like limbs ending in cloven hooves. Their bodies are vertically flattened with six eyes and wing-like pectoral fins used for "low-altitude flight" or hovering in Titan's dense, low-gravity atmosphere.

At some point in the recent past, Luyten b experienced a halted K-Class event known as K-3841. This event resulted in the death of all multicellular and unicellular life on the planet, and among the species that went extinct during this event were the Luytenians. K-3841 was caused by SCP-3841-0, a 3,190 km long titan that currently lies dead as a ruined skeleton on the planet's surface. The extinction event was halted prematurely and ended around the exact same time as SCP-3841-0's death, which was caused by one of the planet's smaller moons colliding with its skull. Luytenian
The Extinct People of Luyten b

The Luytenians are an extinct sapient species native to the exoplanet Luyten b, a super earth orbiting the red dwarf Luyten. The civilization of the Luytenians themselves is still poorly understood, but it is known that by the time they went extinct, their level of technological and societal advancement was roughly equal to that of late 20th or early 21st century humans. At some point in the recent past, Luyten b experienced a halted K-Class event known as K-3941-0. This event resulted in the death of all multicellular and unicellular life on the planet, and among the species that went extinct during this event were the Luytenians. K-3941-0 was caused by SCP-3941-0, a 3,300 km long titan that currently lies dead as a ruined skeleton on the planet's surface. The extinction event was halted prematurely, and ended around the same exact time as the SCP-3941-0's death, which was caused by one of the planet's smaller moons colliding with its skull. By the time the Foundation explored Luyten b in 2038, the extinction event had already passed 50 Terran years ago.

Luyten b is a tidally locked planet, with one side being in constant daylight and the other being in eternal darkness. Its home star, Luyten, is a red dwarf that gives off a relatively dim light compared to yellow dwarfs such as Sol. Due to this, Luyten b's climate is largely comparable to that of Gliese 445-C, the homeworld of the Gliesans. However, there are a multitude of differences that also affected the evolution of life. Unlike Gliese 445-C, which is roughly similar in size and mass to Earth, Luyten b is around 3 times the mass of both planets, and 1.35 times the size, giving it a notably (though not hazardously) stronger gravitational pull. The star, Luyten, is also much less active than Gliese 445, and does not produce as many solar flares as its volatile counterpart.

Many of the Luytenian cadavers across the planet were highly intact and in excellent condition, due to the complete absence of decomposing bacteria or scavengers on the planet following K-3941-0. As a result, numerous necropsies have allowed for a in-depth understanding on Luytenian anatomy and physiology. Luytenians were bulky sapient vertebrate herbivores with strong, sturdy limbs and stocky proportions. On average, they were about 2.5 m long, about the length of a subadult American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis). They bore a superficial resemblance to reptiles, but many of their features were comparable to insects as well. They were hexapedal, walking on six strong legs, consisting of a "shoulder", an elbow/knee, and a foot. The forefeet in particular were prehensile, and could fold inward and act as a pair of hands used for manipulation. Their skulls had two lower mandibles and a single upper mandible, and at the back of the mouth was a muscular, toothy radula similar to that of molluscs, which was presumably used to both swallow and further break down food. Their jaws, on the other hand, lacked teeth entirely, instead possessing sets of hydrostatic dentary tentacles that were used to strip and grab vegetation from plants and draw it into their radular throats. Their digestive system consists of three stomachs, a small intestine, and a large intestine. Their equivalent of nostrils were located on the two lower jawbones, and the airways of both nostrils and the mouth converged at a larynx and two lungs, and the larynx itself contained vocal chords. According to the few non-cognitohazardous audio information sources remaining on the planet, Luytenian languages consisted of long, drawn out vocalizations accompanied and/or interrupted by jaw snaps. The sounds of their voices have been compared to that of a digeridoo or Tibetan throat singing, with varying patterns and tone/pitch variations that have been identified as unique dialects and languages that have yet to be translated. Due to the limited articulation of the neck, their eyes and ears were instead placed on a mobile, elliptical appendage placed on a thick, trunk-like stalk resembling a second neck. Luytenians had two biological sexes, one analogous to male and another analogous to female. Males were slightly larger than females, and bore slightly longer mandibles. Due to their morphology, Luytenians mated while standing side-by-side; the males possessing a long haemopenes in which only one of the two prongs were used at a time. Females were oviparous, and examination of gravid female cadavers show that they laid clutches of three eggs. Luytenians were carbon-based, breathed an earth-like atmosphere, and had DNA that contained the same amino acids as earth biota, but their bodies had evolved to endure the relatively higher gravity of Luyten b. Their muscles were rather strong and dense, and despite their bulk, simulations have shown that they were capable of surprising bursts of speed if necessary. Due to their planet's lack of a day and night cycle, Luytenians did not require sleep, instead only having parts of their brain "rest" at a time while remaining constantly active. Their eyes were also capable of decent vision under a dimmer sun, though they couldn't see as far as the similarly sharp-eyed Gliesans, and had poorer color vision.

"Star Ducks"
Anseriforme Tormentors of Primitive Man

The aptly named "Star Ducks" (also known by some as the "Volkfolk" and "Eggmen") are an ancient race of sapient extraterrestrials that had achieved space travel long before humanity, and have been capable of interstellar traversal since 2 mya BC. They are the least understood of the alien species known to the Foundation, with most claims regarding their existence coming from SCP-1952, an exceptionally long-lived male Homo erectus who was genetically and cybernetically augmented by these strange beings during the mid Pleistocene. However, with the little information that has been gathered, they are/were an exceptionally advanced species who had mastered biotechnology and genetic engineering, having been able to achieve interstellar travel via biological spacecraft that resemble giant eggs. Their culture is almost entirely unknown, however due to their tendency to unethically modify other sapient organisms for the sake of entertainment, some might presume that their lifestyles are highly hedonistic and devoid of ethical laws.

A better understanding of their biology and appearance was established following a recent discovery in Africa. Fragments of a colossal eggshell were found in pleistocene sediment, and alongside the shell fragments were active yet heavily rusted stasis pods containing (deceased) Star Ducks complete with DNA and fully intact soft tissue and organs, subsequently verifying SCP-1952's claims. As their nickname implies, Star Ducks are large, vaguely anseriforme-like avian vertebrates, with webbed feet, a flattened, bill-like rostrum and "feathers". The feathers, while identical in function to those of Terran birds, are structurally and chemically dissimilar, being made of chitin as opposed to keratin, and growing out of scale-like base plates. The bill-like jaws are also made of chitin, and unlike the bill of a Terran bird, there is no bone underneath the external sheath. Rather than having long, pennaceous remiges (flight feathers) on their wings, their wings are membraneous like a bat's, with a set of paddle-shaped "fingers" at the wingtips that function like the primary feathers of terran birds. However, due to the reduced size of the wings, the Star Ducks are rendered incapable of powered flight, though digital simulations show that they are capable of unpowered, long-distance gliding depending on the height of a launching point. They are also tripedal, walking using two primary limbs and a long, hydrostatic pseudopod resembling a forked tail. They bear a total of 6 eyes, one pair facing forward, another going upward, and a third pair facing directly sideways. They are also hermaphroditic, exhibiting both male and female reproductive organs within a gular sac. The Star Ducks themselves were equipped with biomechanical gear, notably a storage compartment on the chest resembling a yolk sac, and blade-like implements on the wingtips consisting of calcium carbonate (a compound found in the eggshells of birds). These tools and devices seem to directly interface with the nervous and circulatory system of the wearer, and can damage the wearer's tissues if removed forcefully. Testing has shown, however, that these devices can detach safely from the wearer when supplied with a non-lethal electric shock.

Due to their extraterrestrial evolutionary origin, the Star Duck's internal biology is very unconventional by terrestrial standards. Their heart is very large, consisting of a long tube with four bulbous segments down its length, each segment speculated to have their own heartbeat. Behind the heart are four pairs of lungs, which emulate a unidirectional respiratory airflow convergently similar to earthly birds. Their brain, much like the heart, is modular, consisting of a long chord lined with 4 ganglion, which rests below the "spine" as opposed to being a singular unit inside the skull; all four ganglion work in conjunction with one another in a manner similar to the various regions of the vertebrate brain, allowing for human-level intelligence. However, even with these dissimilarities, the Star Ducks are not without some vague similarities to terrestrial biology. Much like a terrestrial vertebrate, the Star Ducks' oxygen/carbon dioxide transport system is iron-based, giving their blood a red color. The composition and construction of their bones are remarkably similar, with a calcium exterior and an interior made of cancellous bone and a viscous substance similar to bone marrow, though the arrangement of their skeleton (particularly their limbs) is fundamentally different from that of earth organisms. Their bodily tissues are chemically similar to earth organisms as well, though their DNA strands are of unconventional arrangement (resembling a straight railroad track instead of a double helix).

Gliscian
The Makers of Music

The Gliscians (also known as SCP-1342-3) are a sapient extraterrestrial race originating from the Earth-like exoplanet Gliese 445-C. A highly benevolent race, the Gliscians had a great love for music, and according to the transmissions from SCP-1342-1, they made contact with the world governments of Earth at some point in the distant future (about 40 millennia), where they exchanged their cultures with one another. For some time, the two species seemed to be on good terms, but eventually, for unknown reasons the governments of Earth launched a devastating attack on Gliese 445-C, causing a major ecological disaster and the downfall of the Gliscian race. Initially the Gliscians were vengeful, but upon their discovery of the lost Voyager spacecraft, which contained records of human culture, they were touched and immediately forgave them. As a last resort to prevent this Future from happening, they created a replica of the Voyager (SCP-1342-1) containing records of their own culture and fate, and sent it back in time for Humanity to find. Thankfully, SCP-1342-1 was eventually found by the SCP Foundation, fulfilling part of the Gliscians' plan. However, the Foundation kept the object in their custody for the sake of security. As of present, the fate of the Gliscians in the distant future is uncertain, but there is still hope to be found for them.

The Gliscians are 2 m tall, omnivorous, radially symmetrical vertebrates with biological traits loosely analogous to mammals. They are carbon-based organisms with the standard GCAT bases typical of organic life, but are of the opposite chirality, with their tissues being composed of dextro-amino acids instead of the levo-amino acids found in Humans, "Star Ducks" and Taronyu. Their bodies are cylindrical, with 6 limbs on the central axis and a large, conical cranium on top. The lower three limbs serve as legs, and have a jointed bone structure loosely resembling a digitigrade hind limb. The upper three limbs (the arms) are rather long and snake-like, with a bone structure reminiscent of a spinal column, and three hydrostatic fingers at each arm tip. Where a head should be, they have tetrahedron-shaped cephalothorax surrounded by 3 long snouts ending with beaked mouths. The mouths are used for feeding, breathing and speech, with each mouth possessing their own trachea and lung, and separate esophagi that converge into a single stomach. When they speak, they usually talk with all 3 of their mouths simultaneously, giving their voices a choir-like tone. Their speech is facilitated by three complex syrinx-like organs resembling those of corvids. Due to this, they can theoretically learn and speak English if given the opportunity. The muscular system of a Gliscian is composed of both hydraulic vascular muscles and conventional fibrous muscles, with the former mostly used for the movement of the limbs. Gliscians are sexually dimorphic, possessing two sexes that seem to be analogous to male and female respectively. However, the distinctions between male and female are not immediately identifiable on an external level, but can be loosely inferred from vocal tone. The roles by which male and female Gliscians reproduce is reversed; rather than having the male penetrate the female to inseminate her, the female penetrates the male to inseminate herself. Most of the other sexually dimorphic animals on Gliese 445-C exhibit this sex reversal as well, indicating that it is basal to Gliese 445-C's native fauna in general. The Gliscians are considered to be endothermic by the standards of Gliscian fauna, but having evolved on a planet with low light and cooler climate, their core temperature is extremely low compared to terrestrial endotherms. Their eyes, though appearing to be simple black spheres on first glance, have an internal structure similar to the eye of a vertebrate or cephalopod, and can see bright and clearly in the dimly lit surroundings of their world. An additional eye (referred to as a "solar eye") is located on the very peak of the body, and is used to detect fluctuations in sunlight (possibly as a means of predicting solar flares).

Gliese 445-C is tidally locked with its sun, with one side perpetually scorched by endless daylight, and the other forever frostbitten by cold, endless twilight and impenetrable darkness. While life can and does exist in the former, most of the world's life lives in the border between the day and night zones, where the conditions are perfect and it is always dusk/dawn. The Gliscians are very well adapted for such an environment. Their eyes are very keen in the dim lighting of their world, allowing them to see as well in the dusk as humans can see in broad daylight. Their "solar eyes" allow them to predict when a solar flare is going to occur, so that they can avoid danger. Due to the complete absence of a day and night cycle, the Gliscians lack circadian rhythm and do not require sleep in a traditional sense, instead remaining perpetually active with only parts of their brain resting at a time.

Gliscian Sol:
Gliese 445 (the real-life star that the fictional/hypothetical planet Gliese 445-C orbits) is a red dwarf, and red dwarfs are known for being long-lived, dim and unstable, frequently producing solar flares. An earth-like, habitable planet orbiting a red dwarf would be in relatively close proximity to the star, and due to the gravitational force, would be tidally locked, one side being in constant daylight and the other being frozen in icy nighttime. The most habitable part of the planet would be the border between the two sides, where it is perpetually dusk/dawn and the sun never sets or rises. The native organisms would be adapted for the dim environment, and would likely have physiological measures to protect themselves from deadly solar flares. Plants living on Gliese 445-C would have large, black leaves, allowing them to photosynthesize under the dim lighting, and the animals living there would likely have adaptations to survive in the cool and dark environment, such as hard shells, insulating integument and keen eyes. My depiction of the Gliscian bears a number of adaptations required to live in such a world. They do not sleep, lacking circadian rhythmicity due to the complete absence of a day and night cycle. Instead, they remain perpetually active, avoiding insomnia by only having specific regions of their brain rest at a time. Their eyes are very sharp, allowing them to see their dim world almost as if it is broad daylight. I interpret the radial symmetry as being a basal trait of all Gliscian fauna as a means of watching for predators in all directions, with no distinct front or back. While most other animals on Gliese 445-C have hard protective shells to protect them from solar flares, the Gliscians had lost their shells as a result of the evolution of sapience, utilizing their intellect and mobility to avoid being cooked alive by a radioactive storm. Their skin is thick, leathery and nearly immune to cancer, providing a small degree of additional resistance to radiation, though this only allows them to survive during a solar flare for an additional minute unprotected. They also have a photoreceptive eye on the tops of their bodies that allows them to detect sudden increases in sunlight (which are often signs of a solar flare yet to come). Despite a high metabolic rate, their core temperatures are relatively low compared to those of Earth's fauna due to their evolution and homeostasic needs being largely influenced by their planet's cool climate, though by the standards of Gliese 445-C's native fauna, they are considered to be endothermic ("warm blooded").

I also decided to write up some other wacky, interesting headcanon details for the Gliscians besides the ones that I wrote based on red dwarf spec-evo research. The Gliscians also evolved a binary sex system independently from Earth life, with two distinct sexes analogous to what humans describe as "male" and "female". However, on Gliese 445-C, the roles the two sexes take in terms of behavior and reproduction are inverse to what is seen on Earth. This applies to the miscellaneous animals as well, where sexually dimorphic traits such as larger size, bright colors and sexual display structures are possessed by females rather than males, and the means by which internal fertilization occurs is practically the Earth equivalent "gender-swapped and played in reverse", to put in laymen's terms. The Gliscians themselves are part of a clade of organisms superficially comparable in ecology to mammals; there is also another clade of vertebroid animals on their planet ecologically comparable to reptiles and amphibians. But due to their alien nature, to call either groups "mammals" or "reptiles" would be highly unprofessional, as it demonstrates a very close-minded view on taxonomy that strictly uses earth taxonomy as a baseline. The former are more accurately described as "Gliesetheria", while the latter are more properly defined as "Herpetogliscia", though the Gliesians have their own words for these clades, which they name using a nomenclative language distinct from their primary native tongue.

Titanians
The Fish-men of Titan (inexplicably discovered via anomalous squirt gun)

The Titanians (or 'Blrgktltiktiktbtbr' as they call themselves) are a sapient species originating from the underground oceans of the Saturnian moon Titan, and one of the few sapient species endemic to Sol that originate from a celestial body other than Earth. Their first contact with the Human race (more specifically, the SCP Foundation) was an event of rather humorous circumstances, and was the result of the routine testing of SCP-3788, a water gun that can produce spatial anomalies. Upon firing the object, a submarine-like craft shot out, which contained roughly eight passengers. While initially knocked unconscious by the oxygenated atmosphere on Earth, the Foundation managed to bring them back to full health in large tanks of liquid ammonia. Upon full recovery, the alien castaways taught the Foundation their language so that the exchange of information would be less difficult. From there, the Foundation found out that these aliens originated from Titan, and learned of various aspects of Titanian culture and civilization. Eventually, the Titanians were safely transported back to their Moon.

The Titanians live in large, advanced cities in the vast underground oceans they call their home. These cities somewhat resemble upside down versions of a more typical city, designed to withstand the immense oceanic pressure and mild caustic properties of the ammonia, and are attached to the rocky underside of the crust at the very upper strata of the subsurface ocean. Titanian public transport utilizes submarine-like marine vehicles, which function like their equivalent of cars and buses. Most of their modern vehicles are powered by methane, a clean energy source harvested from either small quantities in the ocean or the lakes on the surface. Their leading superpower is a democracy, lead by a president-like figure. They are notably similar in general psychology to Humans, possessing familiar emotions similar to sadness, anger, and happiness, and also have the capacity for affection and empathy. However, they are notably unfamiliar with concepts such as gender and sexual pleasure, despite being a sexually dimorphic species. They do have something similar to romance, though since both males and females are practically indistinguishable, whether or not the two involved individuals are of the opposite or same sex is mostly irrelevant. Unlike humans, they have not attempted to achieve space travel, at least not yet. Due to their subterranean origin, their civilization had not invented astronomy until very late into their technological development, and prior to their discovery of the surface, they didn't even know what a sky was. They utilize surface explorations as a means of collecting resources such as methane, in addition to mapping out the surface of their world just in case they ever decide to colonize it.

Titanians are 3 m tall, tripedal marine organisms superficially resembling ocean sunfish (Mola mola) in appearance, possessing gills and fins. Their ancestors were vaguely crab-like herbivorous piscomorphs that clung and walked upside down on the rocky 'ceiling' formed by the crust, only swimming to avoid predators. As they developed sapience and built cities, they switched from a suspended, upside-down lifestyle to a right-side-up vertical gait. Their biology is carbon-based, though the composition of their organic tissue differs drastically from organic biota from Earth, due to the water they breathe containing large quantities of ammonia. Their tissues are composed of organometallic polymers and enamine chains, with an endoskeleton composed of silicon (an unusual feature for a carbon-based being to have). Unlike other piscomorphs on Titan, who survive in the cold sea using antifreeze in their blood, Titanians evolved endothermy, with their silicon bones serving as an insulator and containing vascularized structures similar to haversian canals. They possess a total of six eyes. Their bodies are vertically flattened, with a pair of wing-like fins on the sides and their three limbs situated vertically under their bodies. Their limbs are strangely deerlike in appearance, and are very slim, each leg ending in cloven hooves made of a hard, horny material resembling keratin. While their well-developed legs render them very poor swimmers, it coincidentally allows them to traverse the surface of Titan very well, as long as their skin remains hydrated and they are equipped with a respirator. They can even 'fly', using their gas bladder and the wing-like fluttering of their pectoral fins to hover at low altitudes to cover more ground. This limited flight is only possible in a low-gravity, dense atmosphere environment, however. Their languages consist of a series of hard-to-pronounce trills, creaks and crackles produced by their gas bladder and stridulating bones in their abdomen. Like many groups of earth fauna, Titanians are sexually dimorphic, possessing two separate sexes similar to male and female. However, male and female Titanians are identical in both psychology and appearance. Titanian females are oviparous, laying roughly 50 eggs that hatch into small disc-shaped fry. The fry are born asexual, and do not develop into a male or female until sexual maturity. The average life span of a Titanian is about 150 Earth years, which is about 2,400 Titan years.

I depicted them as a folk that are just as awkward as their appearance may imply. Despite having males and females, they have no idea what gender or sex for pleasure is, and for the longest time, they didn't know there was such thing as a sky prior to discovering the surface of their home moon. Their lack of gender identity has something to do with the fact that both males and females are identical in every observable way, and even to the Titanians themselves, societal distinction between the two sexes is redundant. Only about 3 languages in the various Titanian cultures use gender pronouns, with most other languages simply using a single pronoun that can interchangeably refer to an individual, concept or object (essentially their equivalent to the English "it"). Some of their other languages forego using pronouns for people in general, instead using a word that roughly translates to "That Individual". Unlike Humanity, religion didn't as heavily impede their development as a species, so it allowed them to progress further technologically. Despite being a highly advanced race, they didn't invent astonomy until very late into their technological development due to their subterranean oceanic origin, and the discovery of the surface of their own moon being a relatively recent development. As one might expect, their understanding of astronomy is still very rudimentary. Due to this, they do not plan on space travel anytime soon, their main focus at the moment is mapping out and exploring the surface of their world, collecting resources such as liquid methane and various minerals for their machinery. They didn't even comprehend the idea of alien life until Incident 3788-G.

Their fishlike appearance is betrayed by their wing-like fins, ungulate-like hooved tripodal limbs, and crustacean-like eyes. Since they are sapient, I gave them a rather atypical kind of manipulator, a long tongue that resembles a creepy kind of hand (or perhaps a gross alien penis), which they use much like how a human uses their hands. Their physiology in general is strangely paradoxical. Their ancestors were probably herbivorous, crablike "fish" that mostly sworn off swimming in favor of clinging and walking upside down on the rocky ceiling of Titan's oceanic mantle. I'd like to think these walking adaptations would benefit their Titanian descendants later on, as they would turn out be equally useful for terrestrial locomotion when they discover the surface. Even their somewhat reduced swimming adaptations, namely their fins and gas bladder, would become useful on Titan's low-gravity, dense atmosphere surface environment; they can cover more ground via limited "flight", jumping and hovering at low altitudes by quickly fluttering their winglike pectoral fins. Its more or less kind of like swimming in midair. However, even though these adaptations are conveniently rather useful on land, the Titanians are still much more at home in the ammonia seas. Methane gas is poisonous to them, and prolonged exposure to pressures lower than that of their ocean can cause them to faint. Earth-like atmospheres in particular will cause them to immediately pass out from atmospheric shock. Titanian traversal of Titan's surface requires the aid of a liquid ammonia respirator and a pressure suit that maintains skin moisture, and is limited to only exploration and resource hunting. Even then, most long distance travel on the surface is achieved via an exploration land vehicle. The only reason I drew this one unequipped on land is because I wanted to showcase their anatomy. In the seas of Titan, they swim in an awkward manner that resembles a mix of a dumbo octopus and swimmer crab. On Titan's surface, however, they move with an odd sense of grace, reminiscent of both a bounding deer and a well-fed mosquito. On Earth, however, they move to with the jerkiness and instability of a foal with cerebral palsy.

Taronyu
The Lost People of Mo'ara

The Taronyu are an advanced sapient species native to the earth-like exoplanet Mo’ara. They are unique for the fact that prior to their downfall, they had their very own Foundation-like organization known as the Tihewnn. They have been in radio contact with the SCP Foundation since 1942, and have sent many distress signals before going into complete silence in 1991. It wasn't until the year 2038 when the SCP Foundation reached further towards the stars and came upon Mo’ara, where they found what became of the Taronyu. As it turns out, the Taronyu were driven to near-extinction by an apocalyptic series of events (SCP-4547), and surviving members of the species went into stasis inside an underground bunker. Upon recovery, the thousands of survivors were found to be non-anomalous, and the Foundation brought them back to the Solar System to give them refuge and a safe haven. Over time, the Taronyu managed to integrate themselves into the Solar System’s allied interplanetary nations, setting up a colony at Jupiter’s moon Callisto.

The Taronyu are roughly humanoid bipeds of carbon-based ecology. In many respects, they loosely resemble humans, with many of their organs being located in similar areas, and a skeletal structure that is superficially similar to that of earth tetrapods in overall design. Much like a Human, they bear two arms, two legs, a shortened face with forward-facing eyes, a well-developed sapient brain, and prehensile, opposable digits. Their mouth, throat and jaw structure is similar enough to that of humans for them to learn and speak human languages, but have a nasal, heavy lateral lisp when doing so, due to their absence of a nose in a traditional sense. Their evolutionary history is somewhat similar as well, with their ancestors being primate-like omnivores that abandoned an arboreal lifestyle in favor of a bipedal, terrestrial existence. However, most of the resemblances end there.

The Taronyu are overall somewhat taller and more elongated than the average human, and lack external ears or noses by human definition. Their skin color is also very dissimilar, ranging from yellowish tans to dark greens; these skin color variations are thought to be phenotypical, similar to the skin tone variations between different Human racial groups. In place of a traditional nose, the Taronyu possess a retractable, slimy chemoreceptor reminiscent of a snake’s tongue in terms of appearance and function. It can frequently be seen flicking in and out at regular intervals as a Taronyu smells the air. Their ears consist of a pair of external tympanum that face forward on their cheeks. Their "pelvis" is elongated and cupholder-shaped, and is almost the same size as the ribcage, making up most of the lower half of the torso. The bone structure of their shoulder girdle differs in ways that require an entirely different thoracic muscle construction, placing their arms much lower down on the thorax than those of a human, giving their upper body a strange, oddly constructed silhouette.

Perhaps the most striking aspect of Taronyu physiology is their sexual dimorphism. They stand out among the other sapient Milky Way species from the fact that they have not just two or three sexes, but a total of six separate biological sexes. Each of the six Taronyu sexes can be identified by a number of different physical features, though none of them seem to correlate to male or female in any way, and only one sex is fully capable of reproducing with the other five. The means by which Taronyu reproduce is roughly similar to that of simultaneous hermaphrodites, though due to the unique nature of their sexes, they are not true hermaphrodites, since a hermaphrodite is by definition a combination of male and female sexes, both of which are nonexistent in Taronyu. Their reproductive organs, rather than consisting of a dual set of male and female gonads, consists of a singular set of organs that fulfills both male and female reproductive functions, and is shared by all 6 sexes. Since all six of these esoteric sexes reproduce in the same manner, it is believed that this trait evolved in the most basal forms of Mo'aran fauna as a means of influencing reproductive behavior in more complex ways and preventing competition for mates. This type of sexual dimorphism is roughly similar to that of the Earth fungus Schizophyllum commune, which have more than 23,000 different biological sexes for similar reasons. The primary orifice of the reproductive system is a prominent, yonic slit on the groin, vaguely resembling the genital opening of a human female.
