SECOND ITERATION
Containment Procedure: SCP-XXXX is currently contained in a concrete cube of two by two by two meters. There are two small holes at the top of the cube, over one is placed a camera and over the other a light. SCP-XXXX can fit through a hole of about 30 centimeters or more, so any structural damage to the containment cube that could result in such a hole should be repaired. If the cube deteriorates beyond all repair, a new cube is to be constructed and SCP-XXXX should be transferred between cubes in a secure environment.1
Description: SCP-XXXX is a 4'3" tall humanoid entity with short orange fur covering its entire body and dense yellow facial hair. It has been observed to appear in multiple locations many meters apart in less than a second, demonstrating the anomalous ability to move at supersonic speeds without creating a shockwave. It has also demonstrated an unexpectedly deep knowledge of modern technology through dismantling various heavy vehicles such as bulldozers and trucks as well as tools such as chainsaws. SCP-XXXX also exhibits a slight antimemetic effect while dismantling vehicles, tools, and other machinery. These dismantlings are also likely achieved through anomalous means. For more information see Debrief Log XXXX.
Discovery, Subsequent Investigation, and Containment Status History: SCP-XXXX was first discovered in 2004 by a survey team for a Brazilian logging corporation. Their report described an area of forest very suitable for a logging operation, except for an "Orange Devil,"2 that after following the surveyors for three days, began to sabotage and steal their surveying equipment (no other equipment damage was reported). The corporation decided to begin an operation at that location leading to SCP-XXXX sabotaging the vehicles and equipment used by the operation for deforestation. This continued for three months before the operation was shut down. During this time SCP-XXXX was brought to the foundation's attention after rumors of the entity found their way to a foundation agent stationed in Amazonas. Every few years to few months another attempt is made at setting up a logging operation at that same location, the attempts invariably last a few months before being shut down due to costs incurred by SCP-XXXX's sabotage.
Upon further investigation, the Foundation agent sent to investigate learned that the area being deforested by the logging operation was near the land of the a previously undiscovered █████████████ people, an uncontacted tribe. SCP-████3 was used to infiltrate the uncontacted tribe without causing a significant disturbance. Information gained from this investigation can be found in Interview Log XXXX.
Shortly following this investigation the Ethics Committee voted near-unanimously to classify SCP-XXXX as Esoteric:Archon, halting any plans for containment, although passive research and observation is still permitted. For more information see Addendum XXXX-1-11/14/2004.
In January of 2015 SCP-XXXX killed an entire logging operation after the murder of several members of the █████████████ tribe. Shortly after it was reclassified to Euclid and promptly contained. For more information see Addendum XXXX-2-03/21/2015.
Debrief Log XXXX Excerpt:
Debriefer: Foundation Researcher Dr. Sasha Goldman (Level Two Researcher)
Agent: Foundation Agent Filipe Alves (Level One Agent)
Foreword: Recorded 04/6/2004 after Agent Filipe's return from his investigation into reports of an anomalous entity (later to be classified as SCP-XXXX) in the Brazilian state of Amazonas.
<Begin Debrief Excerpt>
Dr. Goldman: In your report you say you saw the entity sabotage some machinery yourself?
Agent Alves: Yeah, I was watching the truck they had furthest away from the camp. I saw the thing creep out of the forest and go up to the truck, it climbed up on the hood and somehow reached down and pulled it open, then it… sorry my memory's getting kinda fuzzy, I can't quite remember what it actually did. I remember a sort of cloud of dust around it for a few seconds — there's a sort of blur around the memory in my mind — but I know that it emerged from under the hood of the truck carrying the engine on it's back, and it just walked off into the jungle.
Dr. Goldman: Can you elaborate on what exactly the experience of you not being able to remember and not being able to quite see what the entity was doing felt like?
Agent Alves: Uhh, well I was looking right at it, and the entity was definitely doing something, messing around with the truck's engine, but I couldn't really see exactly what it was doing, not because it was obscured, but my brain just wouldn't process it. So I think my brain replaced it with some sort of smoke around the entity. It actually reminds me of — you know that old animated character, the Tasmanian devil or something like that? You know how when he moved he looked like a little tornado, even though he was supposedly just moving super quickly? it looked like that. But it didn't feel like anything, didn't make my head hurt or make me feel weird, unlike the cognitohazards I've seen have. I just…didn't see it so I saw something else.
Dr. Goldman: I see…and you say this entity carried off the entire engine?
Agent Alves: Yeah, it took it just a few seconds to completely remove it, I think that's part of it's anomalous abilities, and then it lifted it out of the truck and carried it away, whole event took less than a minute.
Dr. Goldman:Were you able to follow it into the forest?
Agent Alves: I tried following it but after a few feet it left no trail and I couldn't see it anymore.
Dr. Goldman: In your written report you also mention that you tried to film the event you just described. For the purposes of this log, could you explain what happened with the video you took?
Agent Alves: yeah, I think the video worked, but whenever I look at it, the same thing happens, I don't see what the entity is actually doing Same thing as when I saw it in person.
Dr. Goldman: Interesting. Well you submitted the footage with your report so my team will be sure to look into that.
<End Debrief Excerpt>
Closing Statement: It was concluded by Dr. Goldman's team's analysis of the rest of Agent Alves' report and debrief that SCP-XXXX has slight antimemetic and reality bending capabilites or properties(it is unknown if it is using its abilities reflexively or consciously). Viewing of the footage under mnestics found that SCP-XXXX's effect did not alter the actual recording itself but rather functioned in recordings as well as in person
Interview Log XXXX Excerpt:
Interviewer: Agent Filipe Alves (Level One Agent)
Interviewee: Awá Guajara, a member of the █████████████ tribe.
Additional Information: Agent Alves conducted this interview while using SCP-████ and Anomalous Item ██ to disguise himself as a member of another uncontacted tribe that the █████████████ people know of but seldom interact with. Agent Alves claimed he had unintentionally strayed far from his home village while hunting. Awá Guajara had offered to allow him to spend the night in his home. The interview was conducted informally and secretly recorded. It has been translated to English, certain untranslatable words or names have been replaced with their closest English analogues. Excerpt begins after Agent Alves and Guajara eat their evening meal.
<Begin Log Excerpt>
Agent Alves: While making my way to [this village], I saw an orange animal unlike any I had seen before watching me.
Guajara: That was not an animal, that was [protector-of-our-forest]. Is there not a [protector-of-your-forest]?
Agent Alves: No such spirit protects my people's [homes]. How does the spirit that guards you protect you?
Guajara: [Oral tradition]4 tells that in the days when the forests were dense with men, and tribes rivaled for survival, [protector-of-our-forest] diluted their hunting-poisons with water and broke their traps. Now, when the men in bright shirts come with their yellow creatures of cold stone and tear up the trees, [protector-of-our-forest] tears the [undead] hearts from their tools. [Protector-of-our-forests] has always been with us, since we grew this land hundreds of generations ago.5
Agent Alves: There are such men near my land. I have seen them. It is wondrous that you are protected from them. Tell me, what does the spirit do with the hearts that it has removed from the tools?
Guajara: We have witnessed [protector-of-our-forests] carry them out of the [undead] tools. We come back to the village to see them stacked outside, so we dug a large hole to bury them in.
<End Log Excerpt>
Closing Statement: Discussion with other members of the █████████████ tribe corroborated Guajara's claims. Agent Alves was also taken to see the hole in which the vehicle and chainsaw engines were thrown after being removed by SCP-XXXX. The cause for SCP-XXXX's manifestation is still unknown, although based on the Interview Log it is likely that SCP-XXXX's manifestation is in some way bound to the existence █████████████ people and the area of forest that it protects. It is now known that if SCP-XXXX is taken away from the area that it operates within no change in its Hume measurements occur, meaning that it does not weaken or demanifest.
Addendum XXXX-1-11/14/2004:
FOUNDATION ETHICS COMMITTEE DECISION XXXX
Date: 11/14/2004
Subject: SCP-XXXX
Decision on Whether: SCP-XXXX should be classified as Esoteric:Archon, Disruption Class Keneq, and Risk Class Notice.
Summary of relevant information/events: SCP-XXXX does break normalcy to an extent but it also takes actions that preserve the livelihoods of the █████████████ people without causing any physical harm to others and imposing minor but ultimately non trivial fiscal costs.
Vote: 10-3 in favor
Brief Majority Opinion: SCP-XXXX defends an entire people and a portion of forest important for biodiversity and the entire planet's environment with no physical harm and relatively little actual damage. The world ought to be grateful for its actions. For these reasons SCP-XXXX is to classified as Esoteric:Archon, Disruption Class Keneq, and Risk Classs Notice. The Majority has decided upon Disruption Class Keneq both because the disruption caused by the containment of SCP-XXXX would result in negative events at Keneq scale and because SCP-XXXX currently causes positive events to occur at Keneq scale.
Brief Minority Opinion: SCP-XXXX breaks normalcy. The foundation's goal is to preserve normalcy. Not only that, but The Minority is uncertain if it is ethical to allow an anomalous entity to restrict the available functionings and capabilities of human beings, even if that does benefit another group.6 For these reasons The Minority recommends that SCP-XXXX be at least classified as Euclid and contained until evidence suggests that it really should be classified as Esoteric:Archon.
Addendum XXXX-2-03/21/2015:
FOUNDATION ETHICS COMMITTEE DECISION XXXX-2
Date: 03/21/2015
Subject: SCP-XXXX
Decision on Whether: SCP-XXXX should be reclassified from Esoteric:Archon to Euclid and from Risk Class Notice to Risk Class Warning or Danger and be contained.
Summary of relevant information/events: During January of 2015 a Brazilian logging corporation began a logging operation in the area that SCP-XXXX appears to defend from deforestation. This corporation brought significantly more resources on this expedition than previous corporations have and therefore were more successful at their attempts at deforestation despite the hindrances caused by SCP-XXXX. A group of surveyors went deeper into the rainforest than any had done previously and came upon several members of the █████████████ tribe and killed them. The next day, SCP-XXXX was seen by Foundation observers to sabotage equipment so as to cause the death of every single one of the workers at the logging operation, including the aforementioned surveyors.
Vote: 7-6 in favor
Brief Majority Opinion: SCP-XXXX is clearly capable of causing a significant number of deaths in a short time. It is likely that it will continue to do so. Not only are these deaths tragic in of themselves, but they also are harder to explain or hide than mere breakdowns and sightings of SCP-XXXX and therefore break normalcy. It is for these reasons that SCP-XXXX has been upgraded to Euclid with Risk Class Warning. We request that methods of containment and capture are developed and used on SCP-XXXX.
Brief Minority Opinion: SCP-XXXX would never have taken any actions warranting reclassification had members of the tribe that it protects not been murdered and its forest harmed. It also is in the interest of both the environment and preservation of native peoples that logging operations lessen. The minority opinion is that efforts should be taken to prevent any logging operations from taking place in the area that SCP-XXXX operates within. Although this involves having a higher impact on the non-anomalous world than containing SCP-XXXX would, we believe that it would be more ethical to interfere in favor of protecting a people's home as well as the planet's environment.
