From Poppies

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Due to the nature of SCP-XXXX, no special requirements are needed to keep object in containment. Food, in the form of a World War One style MRE, and water, contained in a military canteen should be brought to containment chamber twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. Containment chamber should be decorated as a WW1 bunker, and SCP-XXXX-1 should, under no circumstances, become aware of the current date. Hidden cameras within the chamber should be reviewed nightly and anything of significance should be recorded.

Description: SCP-XXXX refers to a single poppy flower originally recovered from Flanders, Belgium. Although it appears to be non-anomalous, SCP-XXXX has two unnatural properties. It’s first being that the poppy flower is incapable of being destroyed, or dying by natural means. This includes being unrooted, as it will continue to stay alive even without soil, water, and sunlight. Attempts to destroy SCP-XXXX have all lead to failure, although, every attempt thus far has lead to wounding SCP-XXXX-1 upon manifestation.

The second anomalous property of SCP-XXXX is seemingly random, and lasts for five hours before returning to its original state. This being the manifestation of SCP-XXXX-1, in which it will take SCP-XXXX’s place on our Earth for five hours before returning to a poppy flower.

SCP-XXXX-1 refers to a French World War One soldier that goes by the name Frederick Martin. Although many attempts have been launched to find information on Frederick, all attempts have failed and there appears to be no record of a man by that name serving in any of the battles that have been recounted by SCP-XXXX-1. It should be noted that, although discovered in Flanders, Belgium, SCP-XXXX-1 is capable of recalling almost every battle that took place throughout World War One in the years following the presumed location of the man’s death. How this is possible is still unknown to the Foundation, and is being thoroughly researched.

SCP-XXXX-1 claims to be a Corporal in the French military stationed in preparation for German attack against Belgium, which took place on August 4th, 1914. Current theories suggest that Frederick died during the initial invasion, and took the form of SCP-XXXX to later re-manifest and continue the war efforts. However convincing, many holes in this theory have been detected and most believe this to be false.

Although few have taken place, all interviews with SCP-XXXX (under the belief that it is in a normal conversation) have shown no language difficulties, despite the claimed background. All electronic recording devices have recorded the voice of Frederick Martin in French, yet all person-to-person interviews have been reportedly in English. It is assumed that an anomalous property of SCP-XXXX-1 is to be heard in one’s dominant language, rather than the spoken one in order to be understood.

Due to historical restrictions and uncertainty of effects, little is known about SCP-XXXX-1. Testing and interviews are strongly restricted for fear of possible historical disruption as well as the disruption of SCP-XXXX-1’s mental state as it appears to be under the belief of still being at war.

Addendum-Initial_Recovery: SCP-XXXX was originally discovered by a family of farmers in the Flanders region of Belgium, when their children began to report seeing a strange man in the poppy fields. Foundation agents spent 24 hours on a stakeout to locate the man, and recovered the flower upon demanifestation of SCP-XXXX-1. The family was amnestisized specifically to remove the memory of the man in the field, and SCP-XXXX was transferred temporarily to Site-06-3 for containment. Upon the initial reaction of SCP-XXXX-1 to being in containment, subject was amnestisized and transported to Site-88 following demanifestation for more specialized containment procedures.
