Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX must be contained in a secure concrete room and is to be accessed only through a single double door airlock configuration, consisting of (2) light containment doors separated by (1) heavy black curtain dividing the middle of the airlock. Under no circumstances should both doors remain open at the same time. At least (1) guard personnel should be posted by the airlock while rotating every 8 hours (subject to change at discretion of Site Director Reynolds), with accompanying 24/7 video surveillance. SCP-XXXX should be enclosed in a cylindrical chamber composed of black electrochromic glass. The floors within the glass chamber should be padded with foam. The pedestal should also be padded, with its base structure being composed of concrete. A bulletproof glass box should encase the top of the pedestal containing SCP-XXXX.
Handling of SCP-XXXX—if at all—should not be undertaken by any personnel higher than Class-D. Maintenance of SCP-XXXX's secure chamber should be undertaken only when electrochromic glass is activated and should be completed by personnel possessing Level 1 clearance or higher. Class C personnel may directly observe SCP-XXXX outside of the secure room while behind tinted glass. Any personnel of higher classification are prohibited from directly viewing SCP-XXXX.
The extreme fragility of SCP-XXXX could yield potential catastrophic consequences should it break, and therefore physicals tests with SCP-XXXX are prohibited, while any other activities in regards to SCP-XXXX should be conducted with extreme caution.
While the most efficient way to contain SCP-XXXX would be to simply store the object in a cushioned receptacle, this would render it impossible to properly surveil and test without frequent handling. Due to the particularly dangerous nature of SCP-XXXX, minimizing interactions with the object is essential to personal safety and for the preservation of SCP-XXXX.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a luminous cylindrical object, measuring 1.5 m in height and 0.2m in diameter. The main light-emitting body is composed of transparent glass, while the bottom and top ends are composed of highly reflective chrome steel with engravings depicting symbols of unknown meaning and origin. Despite its compact size, the intensity of SCP-XXXX's light is remarkably strong at around 1500 lumens, rivaling that of a typical floodlight.
SCP-XXXX casts well defined shadows on any humans that approach it within a 20 m radius. The clarity of the shadow is seemingly unaffected by surrounding lighting. Rigorous testing has revealed that SCP-XXXX's shadows are exclusive to humans, and disregards other living entities and inanimate objects. SCP-XXXX's light is otherwise able to be obstructed by normal means. Subjects that encounter SCP-XXXX are selected by the object at a random time to have their shadow abruptly disappear for exactly 7.0 seconds, before reappearing in a deep red color. Within moments of this transition, subject's red shadow (SCP-XXXX-1) will begin to dismember itself autonomously while displaying no signs of pain. A lingering 5.0 seconds will pass before these actions are mirrored by the owner of the shadow, who will also begin to commit suicide with anomalous levels of strength by self-inflicted dismemberment and disembowelment. Attempted interventions will fail, unless through obstructing the light of SCP-XXXX. A typical elapsed time of 3 minutes will transpire before subject is sufficiently maimed to be declared dead. Official cause of death is most frequently blood loss. Upon subject’s demise, SCP-XXXX-1 will slowly fade from view, with no black shadow from SCP-XXXX appearing in its stead.
Addendum XXXX.1: Object was discovered in a padded black lockbox in the home of prominent UFO conspiracy theorist ████ ████ several days after they were found dead from mysterious causes. It is unknown whether SCP-XXXX was involved in ████ ████'s death. Recovery of SCP-XXXX was uncharacteristically easy, with the object displaying only its exclusiveness to casting human shadows. It was not until object was lightly contained in Site ████ that SCP-XXXX exhibited its ability to induce suicide. Object was then immediately transferred to permanent heavy containment in Site ████, where careful testing is currently ongoing.
It is possible that SCP-XXXX is sentient and even intelligent, and may have deliberately withheld the full extent of its abilities in order to have itself contained. There is no current consensus on SCP-XXXX's motivations, of which speculation has ranged between seeking containment for its own safety, to seeking [DATA EXPUNGED].
