Item #: SCP-4071
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4071 is to be kept in a 20x20x20 room at all times. At least two personnel of level 2 should check in with SCP-4071 every hour. The temperature in SCP-4071's containment chamber should always be normal room temperature and not be too hot or too cold.
Any personnel to enter SCP-4071's containment chamber without prior approval are to be detained until further notice.
Description: SCP-4071 is a cube made completely of concrete which appears to be stronger than normal concrete, with, what appears to be, a root of a plant growing out from the top of the cube. The cube is almost exactly the size of a regular rubik's cube and weighs roughly 45 pounds. The root of the cube as well as how it grows is currently unknown. Attempts to remove the root from the cube have been successful, however, after exactly 3 hours, the removed root will disappear without a trace and then a brand new root will start growing from the cube. The root seems to grow without stopping and it appears sunlight and water is not required for it to grow. Attempts to cut, break into, or smash SCP-4071 have been unsuccessful, therefore, SCP-4071's concrete appears to be much stronger than normal concrete. The origin of SCP-4071 is unknown and further testing will be duly noted.
If the temperature of SCP-4071's containment chamber is too hot, SCP-4071's root will start to grow at a rapid rate. If the temperature is too cold, SCP-4071's root will also start to grow at a rapid rate. When the temperature is normal room temperature, SCP-4071's root will grow at its slowest rate. The growth seems to vary from 1 cm per minute to 12 inches per minute, depending on the temperature.
Upon making contact with SCP-4071's cube and its root, all subjects report feeling cold and empty on the inside. Subjects hands will feel cold for exactly 1 week and after that time passes, will feel normal again.
The discovery of SCP-4071 was found underground in a cave by ██████████ located in ████████████, California. Inside the cave, which appeared to be normal inside and out, SCP-4071 was spotted without a root growing out of the top of it. After subject made contact with SCP-4071, it started to grow its root and, to this day, has continued to grow without stopping ever since. After ██████████ reported that SCP-4071 has started to take over the cave and part of subject's land, SCP foundation staff was immediately notified. After arriving, SCP-4071's root had grown so large, it seemed at the time that fire was necessary to burn it all. After burning the root, the cube was found untouched by the fire and was secured and contained by staff and brought to Site-██.
As of ██/██/2018, more information is being gathered on SCP-4071. Further testing is needed and whether or not SCP-4071 should be terminated is duly noted.
