Item#:SCP-4098

Object Class:Safe

Special Containment Procedures:

SCP-4098 is located in the containment facility at Site 12 to be kept inside of a locked room that is 110 square feet in area. It should be on a table and inside of a locked glass case 2x2 feet in size while not being tested. Due to the fact that SCP-4098 is immobile, no major security measures are necessary, though it should be monitored by cameras to ensure that no one without Level 2 clearance tries to get inside the containment chamber.

Description:

SCP-4098 consists of two different objects, SCP-4098-A and SCP-4098-B. SCP-4098-A is a German Iron Cross First Class from the First World War. SCP-4098-B is a German Black Wound Badge from the same era.

During testing, physical contact with SCP-4098-A has caused subjects to break down in a fit of panic. The subjects will tend to hide under a table and cover their head with their arms and scream deliriously until contact with SCP-4098-A is broken. These are common conditions associated with the psychological disorder known as shell-shock from World War One. After contact is broken, the subject will eventually calm down and will recover after a few days of nightmares related to trench warfare.

After the subject has fully recovered from the shell-shock, they will continuously talk about their "experiences in the war" until told to stop. They will continue to believe that they took part in The First World War, no matter what they're told. Occasionally, subjects will have another "flashback" and breakdown again.

When subjects come into contact with SCP-4098-B, they will let out a pained yell before falling to the floor, clinging to their left leg. When asked what had happened, subjects described the feeling of being shot in the leg.

Upon inspection of the leg by medical staff, there has never been any physical damage to the area, but aching will persist for several days to a week. Medical staff has noted that the pain in subjects exposed to contact with SCP-4098-B has been in their left leg.

SCP-4098-B Upon Recovery

SCP-4098 was recovered on July 4th, 1991 after a gun show when a younger British man was reportedly acting insane and hiding under tables, yelling for everyone to take cover soon after holding and examining SCP-4098-A and SCP-4098-B. After the building was cleared, Mobile Task Force ETA 10 took the man down after he wouldn't comply with the operatives' demands for him to come with them. The man also stated that he'd been shot, though no injuries were present.

The man was brought to Site 12 to be examined and tested. Once he had calmed down, he was given SCP status and is now known as SCP-4098-A-1. SCP-4098-A-1 has complied with foundation staff ever since his first week of tests and experiments. He is not enthusiastic, but compliant.

SCP-4098-A-1
Dr. ███
Foreword: [SCP-4098-A-1 Interview on Incident that Occurred July 4th, 1991.]
Begin Log 6:05am August █ , ███
Dr. ███: SCP-4098-A-1, what can you tell me about the feeling that overcame you the moment that you came into contact with SCP-4098-A?
SCP-4098-A-1: Touched what? Oh, that Iron Cross. Well, the second I picked it up to get a look at it, I had a flashback from The War. I remember it quite well. Me and a friend were cleaning our weapons when all of a sudden, artillery shells came crashing down upon us. It was the most terrifying moment in my entire life.
Dr. ███: You did not take part in The War. You've been told this multiple times. You are not a soldier.
SCP-4098-A-1: Of course I took part in the bloody War! I remember nearly everything I did. And you sir are not going to be one to tell me that I didn't fight for my country!
Dr. ███:Calm down, Calm down. Moving on. Can you describe what happened when you came into contact with SCP-4098-B?
SCP-4098-A-1:You mean that old wound badge? Well as soon as it touched my hand, I was on the floor. There was no sound, but I felt a punch in my left leg and I could've sworn I'd been shot. It was even sore for a few days. It's probably a phantom pain from the time I was shot during The War.
Dr. ███:That's all I needed to know, thank you for your continued cooperation, SCP-4098-A-1.
