Special Containment Procedures: All SCP-XXXX objects are stored in a climate-controlled warehouse. They are to be numbered and placarded for archival and clarity purposes. In no regular circumstances should they be used for their original purpose.
Only two such instances may be utilised at once for reasons approved by head researchers, and must be adequately supplied with security and medical personnel. Permission to deviate from this protocol must be granted with great consideration by various groups, most notably the ethics committee.
Description: SCP-XXXX-1 to -4 are twin XL spring mattresses measuring 96.5cm (38 in) wide and 203.2cm (80 in) long. SCP-XXXX's anomalous effects become apparent when an individual sleeps on it, as defined by the first onset of REM sleep.
Single uses cause mild symptoms such as headaches and mild cognitive impairment which subside within a week. The continuous activation of the anomaly introduces much more lethal effects, the most prominent being necrosis in the brain and various facial tissues. These disfiguring symptoms are accompanied by increasing mental distress, which inversely causes the individual to behave more erratically despite signs that they should be debilitated.
The extent of the brain's deterioration has been observed to completely eviscerate the cranial cavity, at which point the individual's head begins to leak cerebrospinal fluid from orifices originally or recently created by the necrosis.
Addendum: SCP-XXXX was originally used by [name] Private Hospital in [town], [country] in a standard 4-bedded ward. Although the specific bedding is commonplace in the hospital, only the ones found in this specific ward proved to have anomalous properties.
At the time of apprehension, 20 casualties believed to be involved with SCP-XXXX were recorded, of which 16 had died and four were displaying stage 2 symptoms. Victims were indiscriminate of age, sex or health.
