Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX instances, upon appearance, should be catalogued by date and location and obtained at any cost by agents of MTF XXXX stationed globally. Any location staff attempting to prevent acquisition of SCP-XXXX instances through any means should be taken into questioning and preferably administered amnestics. Detention, quarantine, and/or termination may be necessary if staff appear infected beyond Stage 1. Infected humans showing physical signs of contamination, referred to from this point as SCP-XXXX-1 instances, should remain under quarantine. Instances should be encouraged to request anything they might need as a means of monitoring the progression of infection. Under no circumstances should SCP-XXXX-1 instances be provided access to any craft supplies. Food and water provided must be collected after administration after no more than 30 minutes, to prevent any issues with hard foods or sticky foods being used to simulate SCP-XXXX instances. Instances requesting eyes or anything eye-shaped should be classified as Stage 3, moved to a more secure containment facility, and maintained under sedation. Except for testing, no instance of SCP-XXXX should be allowed to proceed past Stage 3.
Agents acquiring SCP-XXXX instances should be equipped with local currency in cash, Foundation credit cards, covert personal cognitohazard shielding, shielded boxes for transport, and cloth strips approximately 5 cm wide and 1 m long. After purchase, shielded agents should blindfold any representations of eyes on the instance(s) and place in box. Box should be placed within a standard secure locker.

Description: SCP-XXXX appears as various small-sized objects, generally under 25 cm tall, but invariably covered in seashells. Shells may be affixed with any number of common household glues. Objects may be affixed with plastic “googly eyes,” usually two. Instances are continuously donated to thrift stores, yard sales, estate sales, antique stores, and similar locations. Affected staff, when questioned, are unable to remember any identifying features of the donors. If the instance appears at a yard sale or other informal sales event, sellers, when questioned, will claim that the object “was in with some other things” and are unable to remember when or why they acquired it, occasionally citing a thrift store as a possible source. Stores, when named, almost always contain similar instances of SCP-XXXX. Though most humans coming into contact with instances of SCP-XXXX will immediately attempt to sell, give away, or destroy them, humans exposed to SCP-XXXX over longer periods of time may become fond of the objects, resisting any attempts to get rid of them, and may collect or create more. Especially long periods of exposure, or creations of new instances of SCP-XXXX, cause subjects to develop into new instances of SCP-XXXX-1. SCP-XXXX-1 instances proceed through several stages of infection in a generally consistent manner.
Stage 1: Subject refuses to part with any SCP-XXXX instance, especially one with any representation of eyes. Subject generally resists any removal of instance by Foundation personnel, usually by loudly insisting the item is not for sale. Infection caught at this stage may be arrested by removal of the objects from the vicinity of the subject and administration of amnestics.
Stage 2: Seashell-like growths are observed under subject’s skin, and any bodily secretions such as sweat or saliva become more viscous. Subject is classified as an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 and should be detained under quarantine.
Stage 3: Growths are observed in greater numbers on the surface of the skin. Subject’s eyes are observed to widen, and irises begin changing color to dark brown or black. Stage 3 instances of SCP-XXXX-1 become more fixated on their personal instances of SCP-XXXX, and will dismantle any local objects available for craft supplies in order to create one or more new instances of SCP-XXXX, generally using their own skin growths and bodily secretions in the attempt.
Stage 4: Subjects are unresponsive to speech or gesture and are entirely fixated on creating new instances of SCP-XXXX using any materials available. Staff should not personally interact with Stage 4 instances under any circumstances without the ability to immediately neutralize them. Subjects are completely covered in seashell-like growths, though growths are spaced well around joints to allow movement. Subjects’ eyes are entirely replaced with large plastic “googly eyes.”
Stage 5: Subject and surroundings are covered in seashell-like growths, causing complete restriction of movement. Subjects reaching stage 5 are generally dead or dying before motion is arrested. Subject is surrounded by multiple instances of SCP-XXXX. If GPS tagged by Foundation agents but left relatively uncontained, the same instances will spontaneously appear in geographically diverse locations at thrift-store-like establishments. No humanoid distributors are consciously recorded by staff or surveillance equipment, and staff vehemently denies any involvement in distribution of SCP-XXXX outside Foundation facilities.
SCP-XXXX was first located in the home of Mrs. EXXXX MXXXX, a recently deceased resident of X X X, Florida. Emergency services were called to the home on XX/XX/XXXX by a neighbor when resident’s phone went unanswered for two days and no resident activity was visible from outside. Resident was found seated upright at kitchen table. Attempts to dislodge resident by emergency services were unsuccessful, as resident was attached to chair. Resident’s body was completely covered in seashells. Radio communications were brought to the attention of the Foundation and agents were sent to secure the site posing as police.
