Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4270 is to be kept in a 50cmx50cmx50cm transparent anomalous item locker , suspended centrally by 6 rubber poles following incident report SCP-4270-1. SCP-4270 is currently located in the high value item storage facility of site [DATA EXPUNGED]
Experiments involving SCP-4270 can only be approved by foundation personnel with security clearance level 4 or higher, and only personnel with clearance level 3 or higher know of the object's existence.
Due to SCP-4270's nature, at no time should personnel of site [DATA EXPUNGED] enter SCP-4270's containment chamber. D-class personnel are not permitted to touch or interact with the object or the item locker within which the object is contained. Following their interaction with SCP-4270, class D personnel are to be submitted for immediate psychiatric evaluation. If a class D exposed to SCP-4270 remains sane, then they are to be immediately interviewed and quarantined for further study.
Description: SCP-4270 is an ornate Victorian hourglass dated to 18██.The piece is constructed from sterling silver and contains ≈100,000 fine particles of [DATA EXPUNGED] . SCP-4270 is intricately engraved with characters from an unidentified language.
Although seeming faulty, SCP-4270 does function, but instead of draining at a steady and constant rate like a conventional hourglass, the particles within fall unpredictably. The pattern of SCP-4270's draining has not yet been identified. The hourglass remains mostly full, and has progressed very little since the foundation acquired it. SCP-4270's draining has strong correlations with many negative global events. It has been shown that when the object drains, a detrimental worldly event will occur, with the severity of the event depending on how many of it's [DATA EXPUNGED] particles fall. The foundation is aware of several occurrences in which SCP-4270 may have initiated both natural and manmade major catastrophes. Notable examples being: Extreme natural disasters, ████ ███ █, the events of the █/██/2001 and perhaps most shockingly [DATA EXPUNGED].
SCP-4270 is also regarded to be a cognitohazard, as all individuals who have come into direct contact with SCP-4270 have experienced severe brain damage, and despite SCP-4270 emitting no heat, 3rd degree burns on flesh that made contact. In all recorded instances, these individuals have become catatonic for several hours, often mumbling about 'fate', 'destiny' and associated terms. After 3-4 hours have passed, all personnel exposed to SCP-4270 have become brain dead, and were subsequently terminated.
Discovery: The foundation was first made aware of SCP-4270 when the local police service in [DATA EXPUNGED] contacted them on 21/08/1948 with complaints about workers on a construction site entering states of lunacy and then 'dying', without just cause. Field agents Sam ███████████ & Finnian █████ were dispatched to investigate the incident and upon arrival quickly located SCP-4270 in a half demolished victorian building's living room. The object was extracted off site in a secure container and brought to site [DATA EXPUNGED] for further analysis.
Research into the house within which SCP-4270 was located has revealed it was owned by a devout satan worshipper called [DATA EXPUNGED], an idividual who has been linked to several other anomalous objects, such as [DATA EXPUNGED], [DATA EXPUNGED] and [DATA EXPUNGED].
