Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: The plants of Dimorphotheca ███████ (SCP-XXXX) are to be kept in an isolated greenhouse in Site-66 made for this purpose, and watered every 5 days. Several seeds functioning as backup are to be stored in a dry airtight container in a -80°C freezer. Equipment colored with the pigment (SCP-XXXX-1) extracted from the flower of SCP-XXXX-1 is to be stored in its designated locker in Storage Sector 10. Information Scrapers are to keep an eye for appearances of uncontained instances of SCP-XXXX.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a plant species of the Dimorphoteca genus that has, seemingly by random mutation, acquired a pigment in its flowers (SCP-XXXX-1) that makes electromagnetic radiation (when it bounces off of it) be able to interact with non-baryonic matter. This has revealed a collective of beings made out of it (SCP-XXXX-2) that have unwittingly developed a religion (the self-named Church of the Woodland Phantoms) around them in the town of █████████, USA, that has since then been disbanded and their members amnestized (See Addenda XXXX-01 to 05).
Addendum:
Addendum XXXX-01 : The field diary of Field Agent ██████ ████████ (referred to from now on as Agent S.). Agent S. has already been reprimanded on his use of expletives in official Foundation Documentation.
2019/06/01 - Again I've been sent to [EXPLETIVE REDACTED], USA to check on some looneys that decided to form another [EXPLETIVE REDACTED] religion out of thin air and fairytails. Will they ever stop giving me these [EXPLETIVE REDACTED] missions? There aren't ever even any SCPs involved, so I don't even need to turn in these reports, just a mission briefing and that's it. Next mission briefing I deliver will be my [EXPLETIVE REDACTED] resignation.
2019/06/02 - We have arrived at quite the nutcase town, I don't think something like this could appear non-anomalously. We visited one of their temples and they seem pretty organized and devoted, and pretty convinced about these "Woodland Phantoms" that also name their religion. Today we interviewed the cult leader and she seemed reasonable enough, however weird it was that she didn't want to show us the Phantoms because of some [EXPLETIVE REDACTED] excuse about the clouds being in the way of their image or something of the sort.
Addendum XXXX-01-A : Attached is a transcription of an interview with the Church of the Woodland Phantoms' cult leader, Joan ██████ (referred to as Joan from now on) on 2019/06/03.
Agent S. : Alright, for the record, would you state your name and profession?
Joan : I am Joan ██████, and I am the founder and spiritual leader of the Church of the Woodland Phantoms.
Agent S. : And you mentioned that you these Woodland Phantoms that name the church are entities that you have seen?
Joan : Indeed, I first encountered Them in times of inner turmoil. It was the 20th of January and I had just left my father's funeral and I let myself drift away into the woods, for no particular reason. I believe that it is Them who guided my way towards Them on that fateful day. I remember it clearly, the first time I saw Them. Just as I reached a clearing in the forest the clouds in the sky vanished, and so did the ones in my heart, when they revealed Themselves to me. That clearing is now our most sacred location, where our realm touches Theirs.
Agent S. : Oh… I think you told me a lot more than what I asked you but thanks for being so open. Ahem, could you please describe… "Them" to me?
Joan : (description).
Agent S. : I'm sorry but by your description they seem like unsightly creatures, why did you take so long to contact our organization?
Joan : Looks are quite deceiving Agent, and I didn't contact you now because I need you to fight them, but because I need you to help them.
Agent S. : Well, you do describe them as quite haunting, the image that comes to mind isn't pleasant. Help them? What do you mean?
Joan : They are suffering, I can feel it, They are in pain. I have been looking for some way to help them for naught, and that is why I ended up contacting you. This was a very hard decision for me, you see, I initially kept Them to myself, my own little secret. I visited Them every day after work, and just basked in Their visage. I was followed one day by the person who is now my right hand, ████████ ████████████, and that ended my peaceful pilgrimage. This however made me realize I was being selfish, not sharing Their presence, as I knew They could help a lot of people as they helped me. That was the start of the Church, as I sought out people I deemed could use the hep of Them and was extremely cautious not to attract any… unwanted attention.
Agent S. : Such as us skippers, right?
Joan : Maybe, I didn't know about you at the time, but mostly people who would try to take advantage of their kindness somehow. However, I started noticing that as the days went by, they started to look more… sullen. As if something was being taken from them. So I stopped our daily pilgrimages and started making them every other day, once a week, every other week… but that didn't seem to help at all.
Joan : The only thing that seems to ease their pain somewhat is when we connect with them, but even that is transitory.
Agent S. : What do you mean when you say "connect"?
Joan : The only thing that seems to ease their pain somewhat is when we connect with them, but even that is transitory.
