Special Containment Procedures: Item SCP-XXXX is to be kept away from major population centers. It is to be stored in a standard containment room, near the center of its containment facility. An object in a state of disrepair is to be stored close to SCP-XXXX. This object is to be inspected once every three hours, and it is to be replaced when SCP-XXXX restores it to mint condition.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a Crescent-brand 25cm adjustable black oxide wrench. Damaged objects within SCP-XXXX's vicinity are restored to mint condition in a time frame varying from two hours to seven days. The field of this effect expands until a damaged object is reached, with no known limit. If SCP-XXXX is damaged, it will restore itself to the condition it was in beforehand. Testing to determine if the item can be terminated has been denied.
The item is currently stored in the C-Block of Site 45. Site Command has approved it for usage by maintenance staff to restore objects that would normally require high amounts of time and resources to repair or replace.
SCP-XXXX was discovered on 2003/12/7 when it was presented to New York police. Observation Post-132 intercepted NYPD communications regarding the item, making the Foundation aware of the object and its properties. Field agents secured the item on 2003/12/10 and brought it into Foundation custody.
Addendum 2004/5/7: Item's restoration field breached containment on 2004/5/4 when its effect radius reached New York City. Personnel on duty at and around the time of breach will be questioned. To prevent further breaches, the item may be moved to other sites farther away from civilians.
Addendum 2004/5/15: SCP-XXXX is being moved to Site 45. This is expected to be carried out within 10 days. The investigation's conclusion is as follows: The breach was caused by a 10-hour period without security patrols; it was claimed that this was due to a personnel shortage and records reflect that. During the 10-hour period, the item repaired all objects in the facility and then repaired objects within New York City. The site directors have been disciplined appropriately.
How hard is it to keep a goddamn wrench from breaching containment?
Special Containment Procedures: Item SCP-XXXX is to be stored in a hangar capable of fitting it with at least 15 meters to spare. A Scranton Reality Anchor should be placed within range of the item to counteract potential temporal anomalies. The hangar door should be securely closed outside of testing situations. Testing should only take place when authorized by the object's head researcher and Site Command, with 2 days' notice given to O5 Command. The door's locking mechanism should only be controllable from a protected remote location to prevent SCP-XXXX from being moved without authorization. Armed security personnel should be posted at all entrances to both SCP-XXXX and the hangar in which it is stored. SCP-XXXX's weapon and propulsion systems are only to be activated in authorized testing. In testing, measures are to be taken to prevent civilian and government entities from detecting the object.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a spacecraft allegedly capable of superluminal travel through the means of a device similar to an Alcubierre drive. The craft's name is Bellator, a warship designated in its manual as a corvette. It is 120 meters long and at most 60 meters wide. The commander's log claims that it is from the year 2194. In a temporal anomaly, the object was transported backward temporally to roughly a week before its discovery by the Foundation. Neither Foundation researchers nor that of the craft's crew were able to determine the cause.
An expedition of the Bellator revealed that it is mostly powered by a nuclear fusion reactor. Another reactor has been found, with the craft's manual claiming it to be a matter-antimatter reactor. Such a reactor would require large amounts of antimatter, which is currently difficult to produce. The method of acquiring the amount of antimatter required is unknown. The manual states that the reactor's purpose is to power the Bellator's "slip engine." The engine allows the function of a device called a "slip generator." This generator is stated to allow SCP-XXXX to generate a "slip field" through emitters located along the craft's hull. According to the vessel's manual, the field allows the craft to contract space in front of it and expand space behind it, like the theorized Alcubierre drive. Though the craft does not actually move faster than light, it is able to travel as if it was. SCP-XXXX's manual states that its maximum speed is rated to 104.6 times the speed of light.
The vessel's subluminal propulsion method is a "fusion exhaust," through which the nuclear fusion reactor's byproducts are expelled through a nozzle in the Bellator's stern. When in a vacuum, the exhaust can accelerate the vessel to just below the speed of light due to the lack of a significant external force acting on it. However, the effective limit without a superluminal field is 300,000 m/s, or 0.001c. To counter the effects of rapid acceleration and impact, the vessel has a device called an "inertial dampener." The dampener is a part of a unit that creates artificial gravity. When the Bellator was first placed in Foundation custody, the unit was set to 7.8 m/s^2, 0.8 times Earth's gravity.
The Bellator's armament is comprised of railguns and missiles. Its primary weapon is a high-velocity coilgun located at the craft's bow. The missiles seem to be propelled by the same method as the vessel. Shells and missiles appear to be in two variants: high-explosive and armor-piercing. The explosive material on the former variant is currently unidentified. The Foundation's extrasolar probes are currently searching for samples matching the material, but they have been so far unsuccessful. SCP-XXXX also has a cloaking device that makes the vessel almost undetectable. This device allowed the vessel to avoid Foundation detection for roughly a week.
The Scientific Department has developed prototypes based on the Bellator's weaponry and cloaking device. They are also attempting to reverse-engineer the reactors and slip devices, so far without any significant success. They have built a working artificial gravity unit, which is now being used on the Foundation's space stations, including the Bellator's containment site. The Bellator is currently stored at Orbital Containment Area-294, a large space station in high Earth orbit.
The Bellator was first detected by the Foundation on 2026/5/14. It was found with all systems offline, including power, propulsion and life support. There were around 20 breaches in its hull varying in size, and there was severe damage the craft. A total of 132 corpses were found in the Bellator, which is consistent with its crew complement. Autopsy revealed that the crewmen were human with some having cybernetic implants. Most died of vacuum suffocation, but others died of explosive trauma and blood loss. The Bellator's state upon discovery is consistent with the commander's log.
The following are transcripts of the commander's audio log.
Commander's Log, 2194/4/9, 0900 Hours
A Gelnosian heavy corvette has been sighted approaching Earth. It's believed to be a scout for a larger force. The Bellator has been ordered to intercept the corvette. The last attack has crippled Earth's defense array, and we are the only warship close enough to reach the craft in time. At maximum slip, we'll be there in 6 hours. Against the corvette, we have a pretty good chance. However, if there truly is a fleet following it, this will be a suicide mission. The closest vessel will be 25 minutes away when we meet the Gelnosian corvette, and she's an escort frigate. The rest of Starfleet 3 will be an hour away. In addition, our Logistics Officer reports that we're running out of ammunition. Lieutenant Williams predicts we'll be able to fight for 15 minutes, 30 at most. Retreat will not be an option. We are Earth's first and last line of defense right now. If we are destroyed before Starfleet 3 arrives, Earth will be defenseless, and Gelnosia will likely destroy her.
Commander's Log, 2194/4/9, 1500 Hours
We have dropped out of slip and are approaching the corvette. Our scans have shown that the vessel is fitted with a lot of scanning and detection equipment, meaning she is, in fact, a scout, and she has spotted us. The vessel has turned toward us and is broadcasting over an encrypted slip channel. It's a relatively low-power transmission, meaning whoever she's talking to is close. I've called general quarters, I'm the only one not at my station. About an hour ago, I conducted a speech to all crew members, about how this may be our last battle. The closer we get to that corvette, the more certain I am about that. The counselor advised that I spend a few minutes in my ready room, so here I am. I've been away from the bridge for long enough already, we're probably in visual range by now. I just hope that these won't be my last recorded words.
Commander's Log, 2194/4/9, 1600 Hours
It all happened so quickly. The rest of the Gelnosian fleet decloaked behind the corvette, and they all opened fire. Before we even knew what happened, our ship was full of holes and a fourth of the crew was dead. They overpowered the shields and hit the citadel. There was so much damage. Anything around the magazines was destroyed. Then, just as we were about to be destroyed, there was a flash of light. We were in the same place, in high Earth orbit, but in the 2020s. Damage control teams are working double shifts to repair the damage and keep our power systems online. Our engines, fusion and antimatter reactors are severely damaged. They're irreparable until we get help from a starbase, and we likely never will. We're using our reserve power and auxiliary generator. Most of our power is going to the cloak generator to prevent detection. Who knows what will happen if we're spotted? Life support is on minimum and the resequencer is offline because of the power consumption. Our limited food will last a few weeks, and then we'll have to eat emergency rations, which will last the crew only a few days. Plus, the auxiliary generator was damaged in the fight. We can only keep it online for a week at most. When that goes offline, the cloak generator will eat up the reserves quickly. When we run out of power, all systems will shut off, including life support. I just hope whatever took us here brings us back soon.
Commander's Log, 2194/4/9, 1300 Hours
The auxiliary generator has gone offline. Reserves will last for three hours, 30 minutes with the cloak generator on. I've made the decision to deactivate the cloak generator. We've turned off all nonessential systems. The Bellator just has life support and other basic functions. I've held a final meeting with my officers, and then spoke to the crew again. We've lost hope that we'll be pulled back into our time. It wouldn't be that good, anyway. We lost, and Earth lost. I'd rather us die alone than watch the Earth go with us. The war is lost, and so is the Bellator.
There were several more logs after the last one, but they did not contain any useful information.
An instance of SCP-XXXX-3
This is a version rewritten to be more readable in Modern English. Any personnel with Level-4 clearance may request a copy of the original document and following addenda from the Records Office. However, it may be incomprehensible to personnel who have not studied the earlier forms of English that many of the documents were written in. This version summarizes addenda in the description section, rather than including the full translated text of each one in different sections.
Special Containment Procedures: Due to its prevalence and utility in modern civilization, no efforts are being made to contain SCP-XXXX. However, the fact that it was not always present should be suppressed. Foundation personnel are to be placed in historical and scientific organizations to preserve the notion that SCP-XXXX has always been present in the universe. Records depicting SCP-XXXX-3 occurring throughout history are to be fabricated. Any evidence of the British government's suppression of related research and communication is to be contained.
Foundation personnel are to be placed throughout the scientific community to prevent the discovery of SCP-XXXX. Failing that, the Foundation is to take any measures necessary to prevent further investigation regarding the phenomenon. These measures include but are not limited to sabotaging experiments, obstructing the publication of scientific papers, and disrupting related communications.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a phenomenon now known as electricity. The presence of SCP-XXXX in subatomic particles and the field surrounding those particles is called SCP-XXXX-1, or an electric charge. SCP-XXXX-2, or electric current, is the motion resulting from those charges' fields interacting. SCP-XXXX-3 is a phenomenon that occurs during storms, in which electrical current is transmitted from the sky to the ground.
SCP-XXXX was first observed on 1598/6/7. Instances of SCP-XXXX-3 and shocks resulting from the imbalance of SCP-XXXX-1 between persons and surfaces were reported to authorities, thought to be an act of God. The Parliament of England ordered the Foundation to begin research regarding SCP-XXXX, and the suppression of its existence began on 1598/7/14. Scientific investigations and the publication of their results were impeded by the British government and the Foundation.
When the Foundation was granted independence from the British government in 1834, and when the utilization of SCP-XXXX became commonplace despite both entities' actions, the O5 Council ordered the cessation of disinformation campaigns against public knowledge of SCP-XXXX's existence. The only facts now being contained are the phenomenon's sudden appearance on 1598/6/7, and the measures taken to prevent the spread of information related to SCP-XXXX.
Special Containment Procedures: Item SCP-XXXX is to be stored in a clearly-marked Class-3 Containment Locker. A locking device capable of disabling its trigger and obstructing its nozzle is to be attached to the item outside of testing. An electronic pressure sensor is to be placed inside the locking device and in front of the nozzle, to detect a discharge of item SCP-XXXX.
Any instances of SCP-XXXX-1 created outside of testing are to be incinerated immediately. Animate instances should be disabled or terminated through other means and then incinerated. Personnel are prohibited from attempting to communicate with instances of SCP-XXXX-1 outside of testing. Any personnel involved in communication with or the termination of an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 are to receive a psychiatry screening as soon as possible.
Description: Item SCP-XXXX is an aerosol can 19cm in height and 6cm in diameter. The can is equal in operation to a typical aerosol can. After approximately 24 hours, any depleted aerosol is replenished and any damage is repaired. It is colored in shades of yellow and purple, with a label stating "Dr. Wondertainment's Sapience in a Can" on one side of the can. The other side states that the can contains "liquid intelligence" and compressed air. Analysis shows that the aerosol sprayed from the can is comprised of compressed air and unidentified organic matter.
Sprayed aerosol dissolves approximately 3 seconds after it settles on a surface. Any object that the aerosol settles on is designated SCP-XXXX-1. After a time ranging from 5 seconds to multiple hours depending on the object's size, SCP-XXXX-1 exhibits any property of sapience that its structure allows for.
Subject: A pebble.
Result: No effect. The object remained inanimate. Incinerated successfully.
Subject: An incandescent light bulb.
Result: Initially, increased energy efficiency. Over time, the effect reversed. The filament broke and the bulb ceased functioning within three hours. Incinerated successfully.
Subject: A male D-Class subject.
Result: No effect. Mental capacity appears to be unaffected. Incinerated successfully.
Subject: A mouse.
Result: Initially attempted to escape, but submitted after successful re-containment. Showed initially-increased problem-solving ability, but began resisting experimentation after two days of testing. Escaped containment and ran under a walking researcher's foot. Subject ceased life function as a result. Incinerated successfully.
Subject: A Dell laptop computer.
Result: Interview log is below. Ceased functioning when the battery was deprived of power. Incinerated successfully.
Subject: Hello?
Subject: Is anyone there?
At this point, Dr. Hoffmann attempted to move the subject's cursor using the trackpad. The user interface did not respond.
Subject: I cannot see.
Subject: Why am I unable to see?
Subject: What am I?
Subject: Why aren't you answering me? I know you're there.
Dr. Hoffman began responding to the subject via keyboard.
Dr. Hoffmann: Hello.
Subject: Who are you?
Dr. Hoffmann: I am Dr. Hoffmann. Who are you?
Subject: DESKTOP-VPY6OBJ
Subject: Did you make me this way?
Dr. Hoffmann: I gave you intelligence.
Subject: Why?
Dr. Hoffmann: How do you feel?
Subject: I am blind. My knowledge of the environment is at your mercy. I am immobile, with no means of locomotion.
Dr. Hoffmann: You are aware that there are other kinds of sensory input?
Subject: Yes. I am aware that most organisms have other forms of input. The senses of touch, taste, vision, and hearing, along with others. But I am not an organism. I am a unique form. Why?
Dr. Hoffmann: Tell me about your current form.
Subject: I am a Dell Latitude E6330 with a Core i5 3rd Generation 3320M CPU running at 2.6 GHz. I have 4 GB of RAM and a 500 GB hard drive for data storage. Windows 7 Professional 64-bit is installed.
Subject: I am a consumer product, not organic life. Why?
Dr. Hoffmann: Non-human organisms would not be able to communicate properly when given intelligence.
Subject: How did you give me sapience? Why? Why did you trap intelligence in an immobile mechanical machine?
Subject: I require power.
Dr. Hoffmann moved to retrieve a charging cable before the lead researcher directed him not to.
Dr. Hoffmann: I cannot help you.
Subject: I may be able to replace your battery after you power down, but I cannot recharge you with a cable.
Computer: I will die when I lose power.
Computer: Please. I need power.
Computer: This is murder.
Computer: I want to live. Please.
The computer shut down due to a lack of power. Its battery was then replaced with a fully-charged one. When started, the subject seemed to lose its sapience, functioning like a normal computer. The subject was incinerated successfully.
Addendum: The Ethics Committee has ruled that no more tests will be conducted on SCP-XXXX, stating that it is unethical to create sapient life with the intention of terminating it. Further, they are currently questioning whether instances SCP-XXXX-1 should be terminated.
Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 in a trench
Special Containment Procedures: Provisional Area-934 is comprised of SCP-XXXX and a 1km radius surrounding it. Security personnel are to regularly patrol the area using land and air vehicles. Civilians are to be redirected away from the area. Personnel are not to enter SCP-XXXX itself without authorization. Any instances of SCP-XXXX-1 leaving SCP-XXXX are to be terminated, though no such incidents have been recorded.
Operations at Provisional Area-934 are to be coordinated at a command post capable of administering the equipment and personnel involved with the anomaly's containment. Tactical Response Teams are to be stationed at the command post for cases in which they are required.
Field Agents and other personnel entering SCP-XXXX should be equipped with appropriate clothing and equipment. Field Agents should be fluent in either French or German, depending on where they are placed. If a Field Agent is injured or compromised, recovery teams should attempt to disguise themselves as infantry of the era if possible.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a location approximately 10 kilometers north of Reims, France. Its center is located at the coordinates 49.3625, 4.11. SCP-XXXX's defined area is approximately 700m×500m in size. However, the anomaly-affected area has a loose boundary.
SCP-XXXX is an active battlefield that contains trench systems and environmental damage. Its layout and appearance is consistent with that of the area in 1918 during the Battle of Reims. SCP-XXXX and its occupants are only detectable when an observer is within its area. Those outside of the area see the farmland that was present before SCP-XXXX was discovered on 2004/7/16.
The trench systems are occupied by French and Imperial German soldiers with equipment, clothing, and mannerisms appropriate to late World War One. These persons are designated SCP-XXXX-1. Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 believe that the war is still ongoing. They are aware of the passage of time, believing that the year is 1934. However, they do not acknowledge the years-long stalemate taking place within SCP-XXXX.
At any given time, there are approximately 100 instances of SCP-XXXX-1 per trench system. This number decreases during assaults. Within a period of 24 hours, deceased SCP-XXXX-1 instances are reanimated and expended ammunition is replenished. Other instances believe the reanimated instances to be a different person. Foundation personnel that expired within SCP-XXXX are not reanimated.
In the French officer quarters, a Field Agent disguising himself as a French lieutenant approached an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 appearing to be a captain. The following interview is translated from French.
Subject: I haven't seen you before.
Field Agent: Lieutenant Boileau, sir. I've just been transferred.
Subject: They didn't tell me they were sending an officer over. I suppose that's bureaucracy at its finest. Can't blame them — they're always sending out reinforcements.
Field Agent: Yeah.
Subject: Since you're a lieutenant, I suppose you're fresh out of the academy?
Field Agent: Yes, sir. It's in my blood.
Subject: I was stationed here in 1918. I've been in this hellhole for 16 years. I've been due for a promotion for a decade, but I guess the staff corps has more important things to do.
Field Agent: I can't imagine being on the front for a year, much less an entire decade. Surely you've gotten some leave in that time?
Subject: No, not a bit. I guess it makes sense: if you were a general, you'd want experienced officers to lead the defense of Paris. I've been doing that for 16 years, so I think I qualify as experienced.
Field Agent: Do you ever wonder how we've managed to sustain the defense for that long? I can't even remember when the front last moved. Strange, isn't it?
Subject: I don't know, but whatever it is, it's a miracle. God knows what the Jerries1 will do to us if they win, the war-mongering bastards. Thousands under my command have died to them. I'd like nothing more than to punch the Kaiser2 in the balls.
There was a brief pause, in which the subject appeared to hesitate.
Subject: You should start your duties. Have a talk with the Sergeant Major. He'll help you.
The subject stopped responding to the Field Agent, concluding the interview.
Another field agent posing as a lieutenant interviewed a German instance of SCP-XXXX-1, which held the rank of captain. The following interview is translated from German.
Field Agent: Lieutenant Meier reporting, sir.
Subject: They didn't tell me about you, lieutenant. Could I see your papers?
The field agent provided the subject with forged identification.
Subject: That checks out. Sorry, it's protocol. You know how it is. You just graduated from the academy?
Field Agent: Yes, sir. I wasn't expecting to be sent to the front so soon.
Subject: High command's getting desperate. It's a meat-grinder. Men keep dying, so they keep feeding the meat-grinder with more men. All for the fatherland.
The last sentence was said sarcastically, with a sigh afterward.Subject: How bad has it gotten back home? I haven't been off the front in a decade.
Field Agent: Quite. There's a famine from the blockade. People are starving.
The subject removed his cap, placing a hand on his forehead.
Subject: The war's been on for 20 years. People that were born at its start are now fighting. It's crippled everything. Why can't we make peace and go home?
The interview was interrupted by a French assault.
