Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a reinforced steel vault, inside of a bulletproof safe. Reinforced concrete is to be used to keep the safe attached to the floor, and laser tripwire systems are to be used to detect any unauthorized personnel attempting to access SCP-XXXX and its anomalous properties.
Description:
SCP-XXXX is a VHS tape dating roughly to the late 1980's. It can be inserted into any system capable of playing a standard VHS tape and work effectively. SCP-XXXX's properties only manifest when the tape is rewound past the time allocated in the video on the tape. It is at this point that the human operator most responsible for SCP-XXXX's rewind is selected. This is generally the person directly or indirectly responsible for rewinding it, such as someone who physically pushes the rewind button, or those who activate it via special elongated tools and remote means, such as drones.
Upon SCP-XXXX picking a subject, a random weapon, almost always a firearm and never a weapon which isn't ranged, will materialize within the hands or on the person of the selected subject. It is at this point that multiple human entities dubbed SCP-XXXX-2 will materialize. Of note, all entities created by SCP-XXXX will not be dressed or equipped with anything past the time period of the 1980's, or anything before the time period of the 1800's. Materialization's will range in size from a handful of entities to several dozen, although as few as two or three and as many as over a hundred SCP-XXXX-2 entities have been reported to be materialized in a single instance. SCP-XXXX-2 will almost always be equipped with clothing and gear resembling some form of military or paramilitary soldier, although gang members and prisoners have been created in certain instances. Upon materialization SCP-XXXX-2 instances will immediately attack the chosen subject, and will attempt to neutralize them. It is at this point the subject will begin to defend themselves, and utilize whatever weapon SCP-XXXX has materialized for them. Of note is that even subjects who are not well versed in how to use their weapon and lack the necessary skills, such as firearms training, seem to immediatly posses knowledge of how to operate such a device. Subjects will engage in fighting with SCP-XXXX-2 instances and, to date, have never lost to an SCP-XXXX-2 entity. Subjects can and have sustained injury's from battle with SCP-XXXX-2 entities in some instances but have never received any injuries considered life threatening or severe. Subjects are also reported to be invincible to outside forces, such as severe weather conditions or hostile persons not within SCP-XXXX's materialization, at least while undergoing an instance.
After the event is concluded, with the subject having successfully terminated all SCP-XXXX-2 instances, the subject will immediately fall unconscious, and wake up somewhere between half an hour and two days after the event, with almost no knowledge of having committed any acts while under SCP-XXXX's control, while SCP-XXXX-2 instances and any generated equipment will dematerialize. SCP-XXXX will stop playing after the event is over, and a new video will be generated on the tape showing the subject engaging in combat with SCP-XXXX-2 instances often from camera angles only possible through complicated filming techniques, procedures, and equipment, despite the lack of filming technology being generated by SCP-XXXX.
SCP-XXXX was discovered on 5/7/1989 by foundation personnel through agents inside local police departments in the city of ███ ███████, California. It was in the possession of a man known as ████ █████, after he was reported by witnesses to have been attacked by men dressed as World War II era ██████ soldiers. A raid was conducted on his apartment, in which MTF Iota-10 accidentally activated SCP-XXXX when going through tapes within ████ █████'s house. It was at this point SCP-XXXX's anomalous properties were recognized, and containment began. Below is a log detailing the significant Foundation activation's of SCP-XXXX.
| 5/7/1989 ███ ███████ Activation | |
| Subject | Agent ███ ████, member of Iota-10 involved in the raid who rewound SCP-XXXX and caused its first activation by the Foundation. |
| Protocol | Standard search and contain procedures. |
| Results | Agent ████ dropped his standard M16 pattern rifle, receiving instead a Thompson sub machine gun which materialized within his hands. Outside the home a group of SCP-XXXX-2 instances dressed in 1930's suits wielding similar weapons pulled up in several 1932 F███ ███ vehicles, and proceeded to open fire upon the house. All agents except for Agent ████ took cover, and Agent ████ proceeded to fire at the men with his new weapon from his hip. Agent ████ proved very accurate and all SCP-XXXX-2 instances were killed in a matter of minutes, dematerializing upon Agent ████ falling unconscious and SCP-XXXX concluding its recording. Afterwards SCP-XXXX showed Agent ████ in black and white film grain video firing upon the SCP-XXXX-2 instances. Agent ████ claimed to have no memory of the event. |
| 9/10/1989 Hawaii Test | |
| Subject | Agent ██████ ██████, site security from Site-187 in Hawaii, subject on Molokai the day of the test. |
| Protocol | Agent ██████ was to be the only one to come into physical contact with SCP-XXXX, which was placed into a VHS player remotely, and Agent ██████ was instructed to fast forward and then rewind it. |
| Results | Upon SCP-XXXX activation Agent ██████ disposed of all his weapons quickly, and instead manifested an M60 machine gun within his hands. It was at this point that two dozen SCP-XXXX-2 instances, dressed as Vietcong soldiers, manifested. They quickly opened fire from a treeline on a ridge overlooking the testing ground. Site staff took cover as Agent ██████ made his way up the ridge line, suffering multiple minor wounds from the bullet fire. Upon reaching the top of the ridge site staff reported hearing screaming, continuous gunfire bursts, and the sound of ████ ██████ ████ █████ being ripped atop the ridge, until Agent ██████ returned down the ridge line with a SCP-XXXX-2 ████ within his hand. Agent ██████ collapsed upon reaching the original testing ground and a cover story of a military live fire exercise was issued to residents of the local area. SCP-XXXX was classified as safe since it was determined that without physical interaction it could not be activated. SCP-XXXX now shows a overhead shot of Agent ██████ running up the ridge while being fired upon, before ███████ █████ the SCP-XXXX-2 instances. This marked the first activation for testing purposes. |
| 3/5/1991 Nevada Test | |
| Subject | D-19087, Convicted felon found guilty of burglary, drug dealing, and 1st degree murder, sentenced to life imprisonment, chosen subject for the 3/5/1991 Test. |
| Protocol | Due to questions of clarity surrounding the 9/10/1989 Test, D-19087 was placed in the Nevada desert while under surveillance by personnel from 50 meters away, and was instructed to rewind the tape player with SCP-XXXX in it fully by himself. The goal was to finally and definitively determine if a rewind was the sole means of activation for SCP-XXXX. |
| Results | Upon finishing the rewind, a rocket propelled grenade launcher was manifested on D-19087's back, and two separate groups of over a dozen SCP-XXXX-2 instances dressed as ████████ Cartel members manifested a hundred meters away. The following battle damaged multiple foundation assets, including a foundation APC and one D-Class mobile holding unit, resulting in five staff member deaths and seven D-class deaths. Testing procedures were modified to be conducted one hundred and fifty meters away from all staff members unless otherwise authorized. Newly generated footage showed a medium shot of D-19087 standing in place and firing his weapon multiple times, and quick cuts to the explosion and destruction of the weapons projectiles in-between. This marked the first known manifestation with a high explosive weapon. |
| 4/7/1992 Nevada Test | |
| Subject | Dr. Drevon, Dr. Lorence, Samuel █████████, two site scientists held in high regard and a computer programmer who coded the drone which activated SCP-XXXX, respectively. |
| Protocol | Both scientists were to activate it remotely at a safe distance, and if instances began an automated drone would be brought in to activate SCP-XXXX. |
| Results | SCP-XXXX was activated first by Dr. Drevon who intended to activate it with a pole, then Dr. Lorence who attempted to use a remote controlled rover to activate it. Both times the scientists were selected and instances began. Finally, a fully autonomous vehicle was brought in with pre-coded instructions to rewind SCP-XXXX. Upon rewind completion, Samuel █████████, the head programmer of the ██ department which designed the vehicle, who at the time was in Nepal on vacation, experienced a manifestation involving a ███ super bazooka and half a dozen SCP-XXXX-2 instances. This occurred while he was attempting a scaling of Mount Everest. The resulting avalanche is believed to have killed everyone on the cliff-face. The new video only lasted a few seconds before it showed only snow and a small portion of a gloved hand for the rest of its run time. New protocols were put in place for testing, and autonomous interaction was restricted to essential tests only. |
| 10/8/1995 Nevada Test | |
| Subject | D-18973, former U.S army national guard, convicted of drug dealing and illegal firearms possession, as well as aggravated manslaughter, sentenced to life in prison. |
| Protocol | D-18973 was to activate SCP-XXXX and then numerous tests were to be conducted upon him mid- instance. |
| Results | D-18973 activated SCP-XXXX and immediately manifested a ███████████ rifle. Almost a hundred SCP-XXXX-2 instances dressed as Afghan ██████████ fighters manifested half a kilometer away, and a half hour battle began. During that time site security guards were instructed to fire upon D-18973, but ceased fire after their bullets almost all missed, or only grazed D-18973, despite site staff saying their shots were on target, and firing several thousand █████ ████████ rounds. This led to the discovery of SCP-XXXX's invincibility properties. Moreover, D-18973 seemed to posses some control over his actions, seemingly being able to listen to staff member commands to take cover behind various rocks and foundation built concrete and sandbag emplacements, instead of standing in the open like in previous instances. More so, D-18973 was later found to posses a hand crafted knife on his person at the time of testing, and yet did not remove it during the instance. More testing has been approved by the O5 council, including experimental tests for MTF Alpha-9 use. The new video generated showed D-18973 in a canted angle firing their weapon from behind cover. |
Addendum: 6/9/1997
Experimental tests concluded with SCP-XXXX being determined unusable for █████ purposes. While promising at first, the lack of control a user has while affected, as well as the major collateral damage caused by the anomaly and SCP-XXXX-2 instances, and the long period of time the user may take to wake up, proved to be to much for an MTF unit to utilize effectively. It is at this point SCP-XXXX has ended its testing phase, and SCP-XXXX is now to be contained at Site-15
Addendum: █/█/████
████████████. While being stored at Site-15, SCP-XXXX was temporarily placed in storage with SCP-1981, which was in transit to a different base, as the normal containment cell was being ███████████████████. While waiting for transit, It was determined an on site test with SCP-1981 would be conducted. SCP-1981 and SCP-XXXX had been stored together for several days, since both were considered safe. However, site staff noticed an odd anomaly. While extracting SCP-1981, SCP-XXXX was in motion, despite not being in a tape player. SCP-XXXX was also extracted and taken to a different side of the site. When testing was initiated with SCP-1981, the black hooded figure that sometimes appeared in SCP-1981's video was present, and the only figure on stage. At the same time as test initiation, SCP-XXXX was put into a tape player, and despite not being rewound, began playing. It showed a medium shot of Ronald Reagan alone, visibly armed with a M1911 pistol. Neither SCP showed any movement for several minutes, before Reagan began receiving cuts, although unlike in SCP-1981, SCP-XXXX's Reagan began opening fire on an unknown entity behind the camera, while SCP-1981's hooded figure began receiving gunshot wounds to its torso from an unknown source behind its camera. Site staff began conversing at this point, and when it was realized the SCP's were reacting with each other the decision was made to cancel SCP-1981's test. Both SCP's were put into opposite storage facilities, and SCP-1981 returned to normal soon after. SCP-XXXX's class was upgraded to Euclid due to its ability to autonomously interact with other SCP's
Addendum: 11/9/1999
A chaos insurgency agent, disguised as a site janitor, gained unauthorized access to SCP-XXXX in its █████ glass containment case after using a super heated titanium ███, and despite the immediate response of site security staff, was able to activate it in a portable VHS player-like device. Fortunately, SCP-XXXX's properties stopped the agent from being able to fully control themselves and use SCP-XXXX's properties to purposefully harm site staff. Unfortunately, SCP-XXXX's properties manifested indoors. The damage to Site-15 was extensive, and multiple SCP's were released inside of the site ██████ ████, resulting in a catastrophic explosion killing a dozen on site staff and security personnel, and damaging multiple anomalies. The Chaos Insurgency agent was captured, interrogated, and terminated after the instance came to an end. A investigation into SCP-XXXX's properties, previous testing, containment procedures, and future status has been launched by the O5 council.
Addendum: 1/1/2000
By order of the overseer council all testing involving SCP-XXXX is to be halted, and SCP-XXXX is to be permanently sealed in Site-64 until such time as testing, as with other anomalous objects, is required.
