SCP-XXXX

SCP-XXXX as posted 'for sale' on the ad for the estate sale

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a standard padded storage container located within Site-19. No edible materials should be brought near the object, and in the event that any food makes contact with SCP-XXXX, it is to be immediately discarded as bio-waste. Under no circumstances should any material that comes in contact with SCP-XXXX be consumed unless in direct correlation to research or experiments.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a 25CM ceramic soup plate with gold detailing around the inner rim and scratches present on the bottom of the dish. A brand name is visibly inscribed in gold lettering on the outer rim of the white ceramic, but attempts to locate others of the same brand have turned up unsuccessful.

SCP-XXXX has the unique capability to change the taste of any dish served on it to that of the recipients most nostalgic dish from their childhood, regardless of what food is served. Subjects have described tasting a variety of dishes, most often linking to a family recipe from a deceased relative, but other nostalgic foods have also been described.

Through continued consumption of the food presented on SCP-XXXX, subjects tend to note a change in flavor from all foods eaten, regardless of how it is served. This anomaly grows more present as more food is consumed from SCP-XXXX, to the point that the subject is no longer able to recognize flavors other than those of the initial food tasted from SCP-XXXX. Studies have shown this to happen due to damage caused to the brain, focusing on the primary gustatory cortex, as well as neighboring facilities in the cerebral cortex, but reasons for this damage are thus far unknown.

Addendum 1: Subjects who are unable to remember their childhood, whether due to amnestics or natural causes, are not affected by SCP-XXXX's anomalous properties. Similar lack of affect has been observed from those with traumatic childhoods with no positive memories to recall.

Discovery and Retrieval: SCP-XXXX was brought to the foundations attention via a Facebook post ad for an estate sale from 03-██-20██, detailing the anomalous activities of the object. Due to it's properties, the object was flagged for review under the possibility of it being involved with the Ambrose Restaurants. No links to the GOI have been found since retrieval, but due to the confirmation of SCP-XXXX's anomalous properties, the object has remained in the foundation's custody.

The object was obtained in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan from an estate sale for an 86 year old woman who had recently died from complications related to a stroke. The woman's granddaughter, Cecily ███████, was put in charge of the estate sale and was questioned during the retrieval of the anomaly and was recorded via a hidden microphone on Agent █████. Transcript of this conversation is as follows.

Date: 03-██-20██
Foreward: Agent █████ and Cecily ███████ made idle chatter for 4:21 minutes before the agent moved to examine SCP-XXXX. Unnecessary speech has been omitted for clarity.

Agent █████: Wow, this dish seems pretty old, I don't think I've seen this brand name before….. I'm sure this has some stories behind it, doesn't it?

Cecily ███████: Oh, Yeah. It was my Grandma's, she always ate her broccoli cheddar soup out of it… I don't think it ever came with a set, I've only ever seen that one and it doesn't match any of the other dishes that we've found in the house.

Agent █████: Well, I think it's pretty neat on it's own, anyways… Any idea where it came from, though? Plates don't just show up. Think it could've come from a restaurant or something?

Cecily ███████: No, my Grandma's just had it as long as I can remember, always up in the cabinets. Might've come from one of my Great Nana's sets… One of those dishes, you know? No clue where they came from, they're just there.

Agent █████: Yeah, Yeah I know what you're saying. She must've really liked this dish though…. It looks pretty worn, The bottom is all scratched up.

Cecily ███████: Oh, yeah, It was her favorite, she was the only one allowed to use it. We always got yelled at if we tried to touch it. You know, now that I think of it, I tried to eat cereal out of it a couple times sense she passed, and it was the weirdest thing. It tasted like her broccoli cheddar soup! Tried to wash it and see if the taste was stuck on in, but nope. My Fruit Loops still tasted like soup… Must be granny angry I was using her bowl, huh?
Agent █████: Yeah, I guess that does seem pretty odd… Anything else you can remember about this thing?

Cecily ███████: I mean, not really… It's just a plate. You seem pretty interested in it though. Are you some sort of collector or something?

Agent █████: Ehm, well… You could say that.

<End Log; 6:12 into conversation>

Closing Statement: The plate was bought for a total of 3 US Dollars and transported to Site-██ for temporary storage before being transferred to it's current location in Site-19.
