Item#: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a locked storage container, with fire-safety properties.
Access should be granted to a member of staff with at least Level-2 access.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a silicon-coated book measuring 28.4cm in height and 17.5cm in width. The object contains exactly 64 pages and weighs approximately 2.6Kg. The cover of the book contains an imprint of an average-sized human palm. All pages appear to be made of standard 80 GSM book paper, but they are made of advanced silicon technology.
In case a human makes a full physical contact with the cover imprint and his own palm, the object will lock his palm on atomic scale, connecting to his nervous system. This connection lasts 1 minute and 43 seconds, in which the human is experiencing severe migraine and dizziness. Any attempt to sever this connection is believed to be impossible without resulting in physical damage to the human and the object.
After the detachment of the object from the human, previously empty page will contain concisely written information about the human. This information contains the characteristics, thoughts and memories of the human, such as name, date of birth, gender, mind description, religion (if any), life goals (if any) and effective stimulants of human emotions (such as joy, fear, anxiety etc.). This information stays unchanged until the same human goes through the bonding process again. In addition, a flat button will appear at the bottom of the page. In case this button is pressed, the imprint of the human palm will change color and it's function for the next 5 minutes. After a human makes a full physical contact with the imprint, the object will project the stored memories onto his mind, in a way where he is able to control which memories should be displayed.
An exception to the content of the pages is the first page, as it contains a full manual about how to reproduce pages of the object, retaining the bottom button as all the other filled pages.
In case one or more pages are removed or damaged, given page will self-incinerate. This is the only usable known method of erasing information from the object. After this process, an additional page can be reconstructed and inserted back.
As of yet, it is unknown what happens if all the pages become filled. From 64 pages available, 11 are currently inscribed.
Recovery: SCP-XXXX was discovered after a raid upon a shrine of the Church of the Broken god, owned by a Church of Maxwellism Writ. The object was kept in a drawer, locked with a key held by a Mr. █████ ████. The object was supposedly used as an interrogation tool (see Addendum XXXX-1).
Addendum XXXX-1:
Interview XXXX-1
Interviewed: Mr. ██████ ████
Interviewer: Agent ████ █████
Foreword: Mr. ██████ ████ was found at the shrine of the Church of Maxwellism Writ, holding a key used for unlocking a drawer containing the SCP-XXXX.
<Begin Log>
Agent ████ █████: Mr. ████, tell us what is the purpose of this book?
Mr. ██████ ████: <remains silent>
Agent ████ █████: I'll ask again, and I recommend you to answer us what you know. Tell us what is the purpose of this book? We know you held the key for unlocking it, so don't play dumb.
Mr. ██████ ████: You call me dumb, you heretic? I remain silent, knowing that my honor won't be broken, and that my oath remains solid.
Agent ████ █████: Mr. ████, we have methods used for people like you. If you want we can use them, but we won't sit here, looking at each other in silence. I can promise you that.
Mr. ██████ ████: You tell me that your puny institute has usable interrogation methods? That's almost laughable.
Agent ████ █████: As you wish.
Interviewed was given a Class C truth serum
Agent ████ █████: So, how about now? Will you tell us about that book?
Mr. ██████ ████: <laughs> No method used on me will work. You think some injection will make me talk? Nothing compares to our Indexed Chronicle of Mind.
Agent ████ █████: Indexed Chronicle of Mind? You use that for interrogation?
Mr. ██████ ████: Yes, by simply putting your hand on it, you will transmit everything your mind contains into it. There is nothing that will escape us, not like that injection of yours.
Agent ████ █████: And was it designed by your people, or did you simply find it?
Mr. ██████ ████: Do you people have any regard for property? In the name of WAN, of course it was made by our people! No way we would use some closed-source proprietary device.
Agent ████ █████: Mr. ████, thank you for your cooperation.
Mr. ██████ ████: You really are delusional.
<End Log>
Note: SCP-XXXX was later used on the interviewed, confirming what he told.
Addendum XXXX-2:
Test A
Subject: D-XXXX
Procedure: Subject is to be placed in a small, secured room, made out of transparent material while being monitored from the outside. The subject will be instructed with picking the object and to read through it out loud. After reading a part of the object, the subject will be instructed to place the hand into the imprint of the palm, while describing it's feelings. The procedure will continue according to the test findings.
Results: Subject D-XXXX is placed in a small room, made out of 5-inch thick bulletproof glass tasked with picking the object and to read out loud its contents. All sound is blocked and recorded for the time being. The subject starts reading the first page of the book: "Replication process of Indexed Chronicle of Mind data cells. Use this page to gain knowledge of the manufacturing procedure. That's all the first page says." The research staff tells him to read the next page. "Name…Jordan █████, Date of birth..5th of September 197█, Gender…male, Characteristics of mind…fearless, bold, unintelligent" The research staff tells him to stop and asks if there is anything other of interest. After a while the subject mentions a picture of a button that's a bit extruded. The staff tasks him with closing the object, putting it on the table and putting his hand on the imprint. The subject complies. Immediately after contact, his hand gets locked in place and he cries out in pain. When asked about what he feels, he says he feels bugs in his head. After exactly 1 minute and 43 seconds, the subject seems relieved while moving his arm away from the object. The staff instructs him to open the object and read through it. The subject starts to page through the object, until stopping at the 12th page. When asked what's wrong he says: "It has my name. It has my exact date of birth, my feelings, my state of mind, everything. What is this?" Test ended
Note: The subject was given a class A amnestic afterwards.
Analysis: Dr. █████ ████: "It seems like the object has ability to gather and store information about a person. Although it doesn't seem enough to interrogate someone with it. It's amazing how the Maxwellists have to make everything open-source. The first page clearly contains manual about how to reproduce the object's memory, although we need to discover how to access that information. Further investigation recommended."
Addendum XXXX-3:
Test B
Subject: D-XXXX, D-XXXX
Procedure: New subject is instructed with opening the object and listing to the page containing a description of the subject used in Test A. After finding it, he is to be instructed with pushing the extruded button on the page. Subject from Test A should be monitored. The procedure will continue according to the test findings.
Results: The previous subject from Test A is watched in his cell. The new subject is placed in the same room that was used in previous test. He is instructed with opening the book and finding the last inscribed page. After doing so, he is asked if he sees an extruded button on the bottom of the page. He confirms. The staff instructs him with pushing the button and to report any changes he finds. He complies and after a few seconds he says that the imprint changed color, as it is now green. He is then instructed with putting his hand on it. The research staff asks him what does he feels. He remains silent. The staff asks again. He remains silent. His reaction suggests he is still conscious but unable to sense the outside world. After a few minutes he returns to his normal state, saying: "What the hell is this?" while looking confused. He is asked about what did he experienced. Subject: "I don't really know. It was like I was able to see another man's life. Someone named Andrew ████████. Another D class, just like me. I was able to somehow control the flow of what I see, and easily orient around. I think he hates you guys, but I don't really blame him." The staff instructs him with tearing away the page he just used. He complies. After doing so, the page immediately incinerates, leaving nothing visible to human eye, and giving the subject a first-degree thermal burns. The previous subject remains completely unchanged. Test ended.
Note 1: The new subject was given a class A amnestic afterwards.
Note 2: The removed page was later reconstructed and place back into what appears to be an empty slot, while not retaining it's previous data.
Analysis: Dr. ███████: "So the captive was really telling the truth. This could be used for very effective interrogation, if we could even call it that. It seems that information is held in the pages, rather then the object itself, therefore tearing it away will delete all the contents of the page."
