Item number: SCP-####
Object class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP#### is to be contained in a liter of ferromagnetic fluid HB127. The fluid is to be suspended at least 1 meter from solid objects at all times by way of an adjustable electromagnet. A back up electromagnet, 10 liters of HB127, a stand alone back up generator, two weeks of fuel, and two specialized maintenance drones are to be kept on site at all times. The containment fluid is to maintain a magnetic induction of between 500 and 700 gause, an opacity of less than 20%, and a surface tension of 200 to 250 dynes per centimeter. The automated drone must remotely measure these qualities every 30 seconds. When a quality falls outside of acceptable ranges, the drone is to remove 100ml of containment fluid and simultaneously add 100 ml of, "fresh" HB127. If the drone comes with 6cm of physical contact with SCP#### the event will be logged, the back up drone will be activated, and maintenance on the drone must be scheduled within an hour of the log. Used containment fluid may be stored for study, but must not be incinerated or disposed of before it is checked for explosive or toxic compounds by research personnel.
Containment is to take place in a concrete room of not less than 3 meters cubed and no more than 4 meters cubed. Observation via cameras on the drones must be carried out by two level 3 and two security personnel at all times. Access to the containment room is limited to one air lock with steel or aluminum doors at least 10 cm thick. In the event that SCP#### escapes the containment fluid, two security personnel with full MOPP gear, black lights, and plastic syringes must report to the air lock within 5 minutes. Once the integrity of the airlock has been verified, security personnel are to proceed into the containment room and use syringes to place SCP#### back into the containment fluid. Should SCP#### escape the containment room, or should SCP#### not be returned to the containment fluid within 15 minutes, level 1 lock down is to be initiated until SCP#### is contained or it has been demonstrated to have fled the facility.
Transport or testing of SCP#### must gain administrative approval of one level 5 personnel. SCP#### must not be stored in a facility with SCPs of keter class or greater or any SCP that has demonstrated or is suspected to have and extra-dimensional qualities or non-euclidean geometry.
Description:SCP#### is approximately 1ml of viscous black fluid. SCP#### glows in a black light. SCP#### is motile, demonstrating speeds of up to 1.8 meters per second when in contact with a solid surface, 2.3 meters per second in aqueous solutions, and 1.2 meters per second in polar solutions. SCP #### has proven resistant to phase change through all temperatures and pressures that it has been exposed to. SCP#### has proven resistant to dissolution in all attempted solutions.
SCP#### seeks out the nearest organic compounds by an unknown mechanism that has been shown to be effective at all tested ranges up to 5km. SCP#### has shown a remarkable ability to unerringly navigate mazes and obstacles in pursuit of it's target, never taking a wrong turn or a less efficient path in it's pursuit. Should SCP#### encounter an obstacle that it can not go around, it will dissolve, melt, oxidize, reduce, or otherwise destroy it. The process takes a variable amount of time depending on the composition of the obstacle, but has not been observed to be less than 1 meter per minute (synthetic diamond) or more than .3 meters per second (unpacked sand). It has been observed the SCP#### can not generate very much motile force, and has difficulty breaking surface tension in fluid. When suspended in a fluid with high surface tension, it will attempt to escape through the container or climbing the side of the container. If no such method is available to it, it will change the chemical composition of the fluid until the surface tension is low enough for it to continue it's pursuit. It is not currently known how SCP#### generates the compounds required to perform these reactions, though Dr.Alexander hypothesizes that SCP#### is [REDACTED]
SCP#### Shows a strong preference for more complex organic materials over less complex ones, a preference for living material over non-living material, a preference for animals over other life, and a preference for large animals over smaller ones. It will ignore less preferred, "prey" over more preferred prey, up to unknown distances and time. It is not clear how SCP#### gathers information about prey location or how it weighs it preference versus distance and ease of access.
Should SCP#### come into contact with a prey item smaller than it self, it will simply absorb it. Small amounts of salt and/or water may be left behind. Analysis confirms that residual salt and water are equivalent to the the amounts of salt and water in the prey item. Isotopic analysis confirms that the salt and water are the specific components in the prey item. If SCP#### comes into contact with a prey item larger than itself, SCP#### will be absorbed by the prey item. Class D personnel have reported this to be extremely painful. At this stage, The effected prey item will then begin to convulse for a period of time directly related to it's over all mass. Black light exposure shows that once SCP#### has been absorbed by a prey item it quickly moves around the effected body via the circulatory or other system. SCP#### can be removed at this stage by identifying it's location with a black light and quickly amputating the limb it is currently residing in. This will cause the amputated limb to become the prey item. The remainder of the original prey item will later expire never the less, due to poisoning of various kinds. Poisons observed have included but are not limited to cyanide, arsenic, lead, mercury, cicutoxin, tremetol, and nerotoxins. If all of the poisons can be neutralized, the former prey item may survive. Within minutes of initial exposure, the prey item will appear to suddenly dissolve into it's constituent salt and water. Video analysis of this process has not been helpful in identifying a mechanism. It is unclear where the remaining mass of the prey item goes. No observable energy is released at the time of dissolution, and the mass of SCP#### does not increase. Dr.Alexzander cites this as further evidence that SCP#### is [REDACTED]
When SCP#### comes into contact with an indestructible or non-euclidean SCP, it has demonstrated the ability to spontaneously relocate more than 1km, though 93% of instances have been less than 1 m. Relocation events do not require an unobstructed path nor has a way to prevent the relocation been discovered. Testing has shown that relocation events occur at or near C. Future testing SCP#### with other SCPs requires the sign off of three level 5 personnel.
SCP#### has been marked for neutralization due to the expense of containment, the history of breach, and . Personnel with ideas for how to achieve neutralization must review addendum 117 and present the proposal to Dr. Alexzander.
