Description: SCP-####-1 is an over-the-counter drug that spontaneously appears wherever other over-the-counter drugs are sold to the public. No pattern has yet been found for their appearances, and it has been found globally. Labelling on packaging for SCP-####-1 Varies, and known, recurring labels are 'Forget You Nows', 'Sweatshop Advil', 'Eight-Hour Travel Aid', 'Planter's Panacea', and 'Skip Buttons'. The packaging's side-effects are notably always an amalgam of whatever it appears next to. The only defining trait is the claim that it, "Lets you take eight hours off, whenever you want." This exact wording is consistent across all known instances, and is to be used as a marker.
Approximately five minutes after SCP-####-1 is ingested by a human subject, the subject briefly enters a sleep-like state. MRI scans of subject's brains during this time show activity consistent with deep NREM sleep. This stage usually only lasts for a period ranging for around a second or two. It is at this point where an instance of SCP-####-A or SCP-####-α manifests and begins to control the subject's body. After eight hours, excepting SCP-####-α instances or strange circumstances with SCP-####-A, control is relinquished back to the subject, and they have no memory of their time spent under the effects of SCP-####-1. Subjects report feeling rested, but disoriented and groggy after regaining control.
SCP-####-A is an unknown entity that, when occupying the mind of a human under the influence of SCP-####-1, can recall their memories, and attempts to seem as much like the original subject as possible, including carrying out the subject's obligations such as labor, or necessary travel. They are notably adverse to violence, and insatiably curious. They often seem alien to human social interaction, taking time to remember things that should be instinctive to a normal human. SCP-####-A instances will sometimes break their typical eight hour period of control to hold influence over a subject for years or even decades. This phenomenon is noted to increase in frequency the higher a subject's wealth, social standing, or the more unique a subject's circumstances are. During this time they are prone to travelling long distances, undergo extreme periods of study, or take up jobs relating to a local government.
SCP-####-α refers to a collection of entities that may appear in the event that an instance of SCP-####-A does not occur. They control the subject's body in much the same way as SCP-####-A, however their grasp on human society varies greatly, and they are usually prone to violence. They rarely pretend that they are the same person as their subject, however they consistently retain the capacity to recall the subject's memories. They often do not respect the same eight hour limit that instances of SCP-####-A do, and will control their subject for an indeterminate amount of time, often until the expiration of the subject. Notably, instances of SCP-####-α increase in frequency with subjects that have already taken SCP-####-1 prior, and have what can be defined as more boring, monotonous lives.
