Special Containment Procedures: Knowledge of SCP-001 is to be revealed only to members of the Overseer Council. Public research into the ‘many-worlds interpretation’ is to be discouraged; contrasting theories are to be injected into academic organisations.

SCP-001-PINNACLE is to be stored within a reinforced chamber in Site-01. The same procedures are to be applied to SCP-001-STARGATE with the following amendment: simultaneous approval from in excess of ten Overseers should be required to enter the chamber.

Description: SCP-001 is an array of what is believed to be an infinite number of universes, all of which differ from each other in a variety of ways.

The multiverse closely resembles the ‘many-worlds interpretation’, a theory in which every decision made causes several separate universes to be formed, one for each outcome of the decision. Until recently, analysis of the universes was deemed unfeasible, as the large amount of microscopic decisions (for example the random movement of electrons) caused the amount of universes to become a number far higher than what was processable by Foundation technology. As a universe splits into two different universes when a decision is made, each universe only exists for an infinitesimal amount of time. Therefore, travel into a universe from a different time constitutes time travel in a way.

SCP-001-PINNACLE is a quantum computer, and is believed to be the only functioning one in existence. It is also many orders of magnitude more powerful than any other existing technology. The computer is designed to hold an artificial intelligence capable of detecting universes with substantial differences to the one in which it exists and categorising the universes. A temporal anomaly in effect around SCP-001-PINNACLE indefinitely stops the flow of time in its vicinity, theoretically allowing the software to analyse an infinite amount of alternate universes.

The Foundation uses SCP-001-PINNACLE in an attempt to discover the origins of anomalies, as knowledge of their background may assist in containment. In addition, with care taken to minimise damage, affecting universes from earlier in time, which eventually lead to the current universe, can Neutralize or reduce the threat posed by several anomalies.

For this reason, SCP-001-STARGATE was created using various anomalous technologies acquired by the Foundation. It appears to be a standard Foundation airlock door, however when use of it is required, it can be wirelessly connected to the database of SCP-001-PINNACLE. This allows it to create a passageway to any universe which is logged by the computer. Use of this to travel to universes which existed or will exist in the current timeline is only permitted in specific circumstances, due to the existence of the Butterfly Effect causing a CK-Class Reality Shift Scenario to be essentially inevitable. In addition, it is generally prohibited to open the doorway onto universes in which an exploration has already taken place or is taking place, whether the exploration is by this Foundation or an alternate one.¹ Unmanned drones are the only object permitted through SCP-001-STARGATE unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Addendum 001/A: STARGATE Activation Log

Activation 1
Location: The centre of the Sahara Desert in Universe AQK-Beta-137, a universe identical to the current one with one minor difference: an elderly man in Kyrgyzstan decided to put on his left shoe first instead of his right.
Reason: Initial testing of the STARGATE system
Results: The test was functional. No unexpected variations were observed by the drone

Activation 2
Location: The location of Site-01 in Universe QDE-Gamma-439, a universe in which random movement of particles had caused hydrogen dispelled by the Big Bang to never combine into larger elements.
Reason: Testing to ensure that the system is functional in universes drastically different to our own.
Results: The area in which the drone entered appeared to consist solely of a vacuum. After several minutes, an extremely small amount of hydrogen was detected.

Activation 19
Location: The area of Earth which Mexico City, Mexico exists on currently in Universe RSB-Psi-356. This is believed to be an area from which several anomalies originated, as PINNACLE has shown that this is the first point in time at which anomalous activity was registered in this region. The time period in which this universe exists is approximately 40,000 years BCE.
Reason: Knowledge of several anomalies’ creation or formation could be invaluable in containment attempts.
