MTF Psi-18 ("Mind Flayers")

The Foundation's Mobile Task Force with the call sign Psi-18, dubbed "Mind Flayers," specializes in all things relating to mental manipulation. It was commissioned by O5-█ on ██/██/20██ to jump-start a new initiative of mental protection undertaken after reviewing documents regarding containment or neutralization of cognitohazardous anomalous objects. Its original members were recruited from a group of select members from other Task Forces that deal with this kind of activity. Notably: Gamma-5 ("Red Herrings"), Eta-10 ("See No Evil"), and Epsilon-7 ("Forget Me Nots").

Purpose and Specialty

MTF Psi-18, as indicated above, was commissioned as part of an initiative to increase mental protection efforts in the Foundation. Cognitohazards and memetic devices were, and still are, a major thorn in the side of the Foundation, and Psi-18 is the Foundation's response to that problem. They specialize in amnestic-based cleanup operations (whether civilian or internal), cognitohazard protection, anti-memetics efforts, and general mental protection and manipulation. In this way, they are much like a white-hat hacking initiative, but for minds. They still use methods that invade and manipulate, but for the good of the Foundation and its efforts, as opposed to on the level of an anomalous object.

Further reading about MTF Psi-18 requires a level 3 security clearance, as it contains sensitive information about the efforts of the Foundation, and should not be seen by prying eyes.

General Information

This section of the document will explain the technology that MTF Psi-18 utilizes, and some of the more stand-out characteristics the Task Force has.

Fleeting Shadows

Psi-18 is, in many cases, an oversight team. They have supervised the collection and containment of many cognitohazardous objects. However, since the agents on site rarely had security clearance to know about Psi-18, amnestics were quickly and efficiently administered, and the documents were altered. And thus, Psi-18 disappeared into the shadows. They even operate in such a way that makes them harder to remember, so that if the amnestics don't hold as well as was thought, memories of Psi-18 would still fade away quickly.

Specialized Technology

Psi-18 uses Foundation-made technology, some of which is slightly anomalous, in order to fulfill their mission of maintaining mental protection. Among this technology is:

  • SCRAMBLE Cognitohazard-hiding visor display.
  • FT-3-18 "Neuralizer" amnestics projector.
    • FT-3-18 kit includes a protective visor filter keyed for amnestics the projector makes.
  • M-51-3 "Quicksave" Neural interface and digital memory preservation system1.
    • Connected to the M-51-3 system is an R-5 memory display system for playing back memories that may have been altered or removed from the user's mind.
