Item #: XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: Due to the nature of SCP-XXXX, containment must take place at the location of the anomaly. To this end, as of 11-28-1995, Foundation outpost XXXX has been established around the object. At all times, outpost XXXX should be manned by no less than four (4) level 2 security personnel, and one (1) junior researcher. The security personnel are authorized to use non-lethal force to deter civilian exploration. The official cover story is that the area contains unexploded munitions.
Description: SCP-XXXX refers to a perfect sphere of space, exactly ten feet in radius, located roughly twenty miles south of Reno, Nevada. Time inside of the sphere appears to have either stopped, or runs so slowly as to be functionally immeasurable. Inside of the sphere are two entities, one in the exact center, and one at the south-eastern side. The entity in the center has been designated XXXX-A, and the other XXXX-B. Both appear to be male humans, presumably in their late forties. XXXX-B is only partially inside of the sphere, with only the left leg, right arm, head, and chest inside the area of effect. Looking in from the outside, the edge of the sphere has cleanly bisected and preserved all tissues. XXXX-B is holding a Smith and Wesson model 686 handgun, pointed at the mid-forehead of XXXX-A. The muzzle flash is still visible from the firing of the handgun, and the accompanying projectile is lodged roughly a quarter of an inch into XXXX-A’s forehead, two inches above the right eye.
It is unknown when the anomaly was created. Inside of the sphere, a bright sky can be seen at all times, with the position of the sun indicating that time stopped inside of the sphere at approximately 1 PM local time. In addition, attempting to look through the the anomaly will not show what is on the other side. Instead, it will show an expanse of desert, presumably functioning like a “snapshot” of the time of the anomaly’s creation. This effect has been reported to cause mild nausea in observers.
All attempts to interact with objects inside the sphere have proven fruitless. When a physical object attempts to enter the area of effect, it will simply reappear on the other side, apparently still connected to the remainder of the physical object. This secondary effect of the anomaly was originally discovered by Junior Researcher G. Carter, who attempted to take a tissue sample from XXXX-B. See Interview Log XXXX-1 for details.
At the time of discovery, the spine, left arm, and right leg of a human skeleton were found in an advanced state of decomposition on the ground at the south-east side of the sphere. These are presumed to be the remainder of XXXX-B. The sphere itself has been measured to have a Hume value of between 15 and 20, with a higher concentration toward the center. Currently, the working theory is that XXXX-A was/is a Type Green, who, to prevent their death, froze time in an area around them. It is unknown if the flow of time inside the sphere will ever be restored.
Interview Log XXXX-1
Interviewer: Doctor S. Jamison
Interviewee: Junior Researcher G. Carter
Date: 2-17-1996
Begin Log:
S. Jamison: “So, tell me about what happened when you tried to interact with XXXX-B.”
G. Carter: “Alright… I’m not in trouble or anything, am I? I was just trying to be helpful…”
S. Jamison: “I doubt you’re in any sort of trouble. The Foundation has worse incidents than this on a daily basis.”
He laughs.
G. Carter: “Oh, uh, okay… That’s a relief. This is the first scip they assigned me to, you know. Anyway, so, what happened. I took the tissue collection kit, and I got up real close to the side of the sphere. I had one of the security guys watch, just in case. So I’m looking inside of -B, and I line up with his kidney. Whatever created this thing, It bisected him almost perfectly, no tissue damage or anything. So I push the collector forward, and it just, vanishes into thin air. I get nervous, because that’s not supposed to happen, right? And I hold real still. Then the security guy tells me that something metal is poking out the side of the sphere. So I pull it back out, and lo-and-behold, the metal thing disappears.”
S. Jamison: “And what did you do next?”
G. Carter: “Well, it didn’t seem too dangerous, so I decide to test it a little bit more. I make it all official like, write down what happened the first time, and that sort of thing. So, I decide we need something long and thin to test with. I don’t wanna accidentally put my finger inside an anomaly, right? Problem is, out in the desert, there’s not a whole lot of sticks lying around. Eventually, one of the security guys finds an extra support rod for one on the beds. It’s nice, sturdy metal, like four feet long, perfect for what I had in mind. So I take it and put it through, and just like the first time, it just shows up at the other end. So I write that down, and then…”
He stops talking suddenly, apparently nervous.
S. Jamison: “Go on son, you’re not in trouble.”
G. Carter: “Right, right. So, I wanna see if the rod is still connected in the middle, right? So I get the security guy to grab onto the other end and pull. I figured if it didn’t snap in half, that meant the two sides were still connected, yeah? So he pulls on it, and I can feel it tugging in my hands. But I lose my footing, and… suddenly I’m face to face with him. I look back, and half of me is on one side of the sphere, and the other half is on the other side.”
Following this interview, Junior Researcher Carter was subjected to an in-depth medical exam. No issues were found, and he was returned to outpost XXXX.
