SCP-XXXX following recovery.

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a climate-controlled cell befitting of a humanoid. Changes in temperature should coincide with changing of seasons. Trimming of anomalous flora should occur on a bi-monthly basis. The presence of any fauna should be immediately reported to Researcher █████████.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a bronze humanoid automaton, standing at 1.7 meters tall, and appears to be made in the image of the Roman goddess, Diana. Though the outer covering appears to be bronze, samples taken from SCP-XXXX's shell reveal it to have a much higher density than bronze would be expected to possess.

SCP-XXXX projects an aura around itself that facilitates and encourages the growth of various genus of flora, generally those native to the Mediterranean, regardless of the surface it's currently resting on. These plants will grow at their optimal rate, and will slowly begin to cover the entirety of SCP-XXXX's current zone of influence. As of yet, no limit to SCP-XXXX's aura has been observed.

Prior to recovery, SCP-XXXX was settled in the town of █████, Italy. Recovery teams were dispatched following civilian footage of a metallic being wandering the streets. SCP-XXXX was estimated to have coverage of over ███ squared miles before controlled slash and burn. (See Document-████-██ for full recovery report.)

SCP-XXXX, when surrounded by flora, will begin to display increasing signs of sentience and, eventually, sapience. The effects of flora on SCP-XXXX's awareness and intelligence appear to decrease at a quadratic rate. Current room specifications allow SCP-XXXX an awareness of itself and an intelligence quotient ranging from 100 - 120 on a standard IQ test.

Although possessing a strong connection with its growth, trimming of SCP-XXXX's flora results in little more than a glare and an increase in SCP-XXXX's aloof nature towards subjects within its cell. Despite this, SCP-XXXX has shown to be compliant to Foundation staff, and seems to understand modern language, albeit in a very literal manner.

Addendum XXXX-001:

Following a successful trimming, SCP-XXXX began to speak Latin to D-7184. Translated dialogue italicized for convenience.

[BEGIN LOG]

SCP-XXXX: Is this necessary?
D-7184: The hell? (Facing viewing screen) You said it didn't talk.
SCP-XXXX: I am clearly speaking.
Researcher █████████: (Aside) Can we get someone who actually speaks Latin over here? (Turning back to microphone) D-7184, try talking with it. We'll try and translate as you go along.
D-7184: You want me to talk to one of your little horrors?
Researcher █████████: Refer to it however you please, D-7184. Talk to it.
SCP-XXXX: I am not an it.
D-7184: Right, right. (D-7184 taps SCP-XXXX's face plate) Can this thing even understand me? (In an exaggerated tone) Hello. Do. You. Understand?
SCP-XXXX: Send me a man of knowledge, not a fool.
Researcher █████████: It's perfectly capable of understanding you, D-7184. Treat it with some respect.
D-7184: (In a mocking tone) Oh, of course, of course. Shall I serve it some tea as well while I'm at it?

Following a series of insubordinate actions, D-7184 was escorted out to be reprimanded. Agent ████ from Site-██ dispatched for translation, and briefed on SCP-XXXX.

Agent ████: Mic check. 1, 2, 3. We good?
Researcher █████████: We're reading you. Approach SCP-XXXX.
Agent ████: Roger. (Motioning to escort) Come on, this way.

Agent ████ and escort enter the room. SCP-XXXX approaches Agent ████.

SCP-XXXX: Hello.
Agent ████: Hello, SCP-XXXX.
SCP-XXXX: Why do you call me that? A number, but not a name?
Agent ████: Not important. Consider it your title.
SCP-XXXX: My known title is not a number.
Agent ████: While you are with us, you will be known as SCP-XXXX. Any name you give will be recorded, but will not be used.
SCP-XXXX: Unfortunate, but I understand. Why have you come before me?
Agent ████: We just have some questions. We won't take long.
SCP-XXXX: Of course. I will answer as well as I can.
Agent ████: (Rustling of papers) Right. What's the earliest memory you can recall?

SCP-XXXX took a considerable amount of time to process this question. The interview was about to be halted before SCP-XXXX responded.

Agent ████: If you won't answer, we'll go ahead an-
SCP-XXXX: Light.
Agent ████: Excuse me?
SCP-XXXX: Light. Dead land. There was only I. That is as far as I can recall.
Agent ████: When did this happen?
SCP-XXXX: I was not aware. There was only death. Perhaps I had failed.
Agent ████: Failed? How?
SCP-XXXX: I do not recall. May we discuss something else?
Agent ████: No, I'd like to hear more.
SCP-XXXX: There is nothing more to say.

SCP-XXXX refused to elaborate. Agent ████ was recalled to Site-██. SCP-XXXX has displayed interest in continuing communication with Foundation staff, barring any personal questions. Further interviews pending approval.

[END LOG]

Addendum XXXX-002: Following the spring season, SCP-XXXX requested to know the time and date. Questioning revealed SCP-XXXX to perceive the passing of time based on seasonal changes of temperature. The standard temperature of humanoid cells has left SCP-XXXX in a state of confusion and minor distress.
