Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: Containment procedures regarding the entities constituting SCP-XXXX are listed below.
Description: SCP-XXXX refers to the successful products of AANEP, the Animal Artificial Neural Enhancement Program. The products are now contained by the Foundation. AANEP was founded on October 23rd, 1941, and experimented with the neural modification of animals. This project's initiative was to enhance and weaponize animals for use as combatants in World War II. Successful products of the Program were enlisted into Project Faunus, a covert project funded by the US government founded to train and deploy successful products of AANEP on various missions in WWII. Each of the animal soldiers operating under Project Faunus were recorded and assessed in a Project Faunus Entity Assessment Log. These logs are displayed below.
AANEP's procedures aimed to enhance the overall intelligence of the subject.1 With this enhanced intelligence, specimens could train for any needed circumstances in the field, make complex decisions, and follow intricate plans. The program yielded partial success, but has been kept classified since it's creation.
Addendum-A: AANEP: The Artificial Animal Neural Enhancement Project dealt with many failed attempts before creating each of its products successfully. No clear number on record exists. Current estimates suggest that over five hundred failed attempts exist in total. Failed products would be exterminated; entities with any anomalous properties could not be released. The only products that met expectations and passed testing are the entities listed below. All products, including unsuccessful ones, were given a letter/number code upon creation.
Every product of AANEP has come with the side effect of dramatically slowed aging. It is hypothesized that this is caused by a combination of chemicals used to suspend their aging in early stages of development, which was found aid in the enhancement process.
All animals enhanced by AANEP were required to be taught to understand English and to convey basic thoughts through vocalization and/or a form of signing with the body.
Addendum-B: Project Faunus: The foremost goal of Project Faunus was to use animal soldiers to carry out special missions in WWII.
In Project Faunus, the animals provided by AANEP were rigorously trained in combat and stealth. Where possible, they were taught to use some lightweight weapons.
All animal soldiers in Project Faunus were taught to master the use of fear in their enemies. According to General ██████ █████, the head of Project Faunus, "When seen fit, they can operate in the shadows, striking in such a way to induce fear in their enemies. With a few correctly placed attacks, fear can overcome many observing enemy soldiers, making them much easier to incapacitate or kill."
To supplement these soldiers' skills, they each were equipped with an array of compact and lightweight tools made specially for their missions. They were also each equipped with some amount of armor. Some of the manufactured equipment includes but is not limited to: compact firearms, compact grenades, smoke grenades, a heat-vision eyepiece, combat knives, some plates of bulletproof armor, compact remote bombs, and lengths of thin wire. These items are stored either on belts or are built into plates of the armor. In order to keep consistent with Project Faunus' focus on fear, these pieces of equipment and armor were designed to be colored black with red highlights. The armor plates have sleek designs, and many taper to one or more sharp ends in the back.
Also to be noted is that these plates of armor occasionally were designed asymmetrically. According to General ██████ █████, this is because "Asymmetry in the plates gives off a reckless and rough look, while still organic. The designs have been tested to be more frightening than the symmetrical ones. We wanted to make them almost seem like monsters, and these designs clearly gave off that feeling the most."
The equipment has been stored by the Foundation to ensure that if there ever comes a need for a situation in which the AANEP soldiers could be of use, the Foundation will be ready.

SCP-XXXX-1
An image of an ordinary specimen of atheris hispida for reference, as SCP-XXXX-1 has a habit of destroying any cameras built into its habitat
Item #: SCP-XXXX-1
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX-1 is to be contained in a locked vivarium in Area-14, enclosed on all sides. As per the 1983 habitat enhancement protocol, this vivarium is 15 by 20 by 40 meters. This vivarium is to be guarded by no less than five (5) personnel at all times. The habitat is to simulate the environment of the Central African Rainforest, with the inclusion of smaller Central African flora and fauna able to fit into the vivarium. This includes plants native to the Central African Rainforest, as well as a periodically replenished supply of native small mammals and birds to perpetuate SCP-XXXX-1's source of sustenance.
SCP-XXXX-1's new habitat has gone through several security enhancements in its time containing SCP-XXXX-1, as a result of its multiple attempts of breaching containment. These security enhancements, as of time of writing, are as follows:
- Food chutes, water pumps, gutters, vents, and sprinkler systems are to have at least three internal remotely controlled locks.
- SCP-XXXX-1's habitat must be filled with nitrous oxide ten minutes before sanitation units enter.
- Personnel guarding SCP-XXXX-1's habitat are not to attempt communication with SCP-XXXX-1 regarding its containment.
- Personnel guarding SCP-XXXX-1's habitat are not to attempt communication with SCP-XXXX-1.
- SCP-XXXX-1's habitat is no longer to include any means by which communication with security personnel is possible.
Information detailing these changes in procedure are recorded below in the records, 1-5, of SCP-XXXX-1's escape attempts. Also recorded are details on the changes in containment procedures as a result of these attempts.2
Description: The entity was the first successful product of AANEP. For the purposes of stealth and mobility, the first of AANEP's subjects was a specimen of atheris hispida (more commonly known as the rough-scaled bush viper). This specimen went through enhancement on March 16th, 1942. SCP-XXXX-1 was taken out of Project Faunus on December 10th, 1942. It was then given to be contained by the Foundation, though it kept its recognition of the german government as its enemy (see log below). Currently, if SCP-XXXX were to escape, it would likely set itself on exterminating the german government.
Profect Faunus Entity Assessment Log:
Entity Assessment Log Number: 1
AANEP Given Name: B80
Code name: Nakash
Species: Atheris hispida
Date Enlisted: 3/20/1942
Date Retired: 10/10/1942
Performance Notes: A viper was requested for its ability to operate with stealth, and for its ability to move through small spaces. B80 has been trained to make use of both its venom and its environment as weapons. The specimen has also been taught how to disarm an enemy of their weapon. As well as this, B80 has been trained to be able to use some lightweight firearms and knives effectively, as well as its own specialized equipment provided by Project Faunus. As per Project Faunus standards, B80 was trained to utilize fear to its advantage in combat.
Psychological Notes: When it was being mentally enhanced, B80 was made to recognize the german government as a threat. However, this mechanism alone proved to be insufficient; It was not made to recognize non-germans as allies. The soldier was recorded disobeying its commander on several occasions. Another noted flaw in this mechanism was that it did not have a reason to risk its own life for another or to carry out other orders that require a motivation to do what is morally right. Because of this, all of B80's military service has been revoked after approximately seven months of service.

SCP-XXXX-2
An image of SCP-XXXX-2 resting in its enclosure
Item #: SCP-XXXX-2
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX-2 is to be kept in a fenced-in pen 100 by 200 meters in Area-14, with an open roof revealing the sky. The area is to be grassy, watered weekly, with a small number of conifer trees.3 Currently, as per nearly unanimous request of Area-14 staff, SCP-XXXX-2 is to be allowed to visit the rest of the site and roam freely as per instruction of its current leader figure.
Both SCP-XXXX-2 and its leader are to be under heavy surveillance at all times. The entity is to wear an electrical collar with a tracker on it, to be activated if escape is attempted. Any signs of planning by the entity's leader figure to use SCP-XXXX-2 for ill are to result in the change of a leader figure as soon as possible. Individuals to be SCP-XXXX-2's leader figure is selected by the site administrative staff.
Description: SCP-XXXX-2 was the second successful product of AANEP. It went through enhancement on January 28th, 1943. The entity is of the species canis lupus, a common gray wolf.
SCP-XXXX-2's leader figure (as perceived by the entity) can be changed simply by speaking designated phrases, as is mentioned in the log below. These phrases are currently only to be known by personnel assigned by site administrative staff. Once the first phrase is spoken, the specimen will then go into a "listening trance"; it will stop any previous actions and sit still, appearing unresponsive. In this state, a new leader figure can be assigned. Once another "closing" phrase is spoken, it is drawn out of its trance and recognizes a new individual as its leader. It is not known how long SCP-XXXX-2 will stay in its trance if the closing phrase is not spoken, or if there is an end to it. As of yet, researchers have found no limit. The only living individual that knows these phrases is Dr. █████ ███████. They have these phrases written down, however, in a vault that should only be opened as per request of the area administrative staff, and/or after Dr. █████ ███████ is deceased. Additionally, as is also mentioned in the log below, some of SCP-XXXX-2's orders are held to a higher priority than others. This process functions similarly to the process of setting a new leader figure, through the activation of SCP-XXXX-2's listening state. Only one such order or leader change may be spoken per trance, and SCP-XXXX-2 can only go through such a trance once between long rests (at least eight hours of sleep). Though this is true, no change to these orders has been made since 1953. Otherwise, if there is any contradiction among orders carried out by the leader figure, the more recent order is prioritized by the SCP-XXXX-2.
Profect Faunus Entity Assessment Log:
Entity Assessment Log Number: 2
AANEP Given Name: D09
Code name: Tenebris
Species: Canis lupus
Date Enlisted: 2/03/1943
Date Retired: 9/02/1945
Performance Notes: A wolf was requested as the target of AANEP's second animal soldier, as it can provide superior strength and endurance, as well as some stealth. Complete stealth was not possible with D09; the human counterpart would need to be present at all times and as such stealth is limited. However, with proper training, D09 can move silently and keep hidden when needed. The entity was trained to focus most on quick and brutal takedowns. This is in compliance with the principles of Project Faunus, specifically with the strategy of inducing enemy fear. As well as using its own teeth and claws as weapons, D09 used specialized weapons and other pieces of equipment made for it by Project Faunus.
Psychological Notes: In order to produce a soldier that could perform as desired and, among other things, put its own life at risk when necessary, during its enhancement D09 was neurally programmed to be unable to disobey any orders from a set human leader figure. Additionally, D09 has a number of set beliefs or "core orders", which it has been programmed to believe unconditionally. This individual set as the soldier's leader figure is to accompany it on each of its missions. This way, the animal soldier could be controlled and directed by a human mind, one that has the desirable idea of what is the morally right thing to do in many situations. As the entity was not made to understand certain human ideas (including the very nature of the war it was partaking in), it could not be relied upon to carry out its objectives properly without a fail-safe and a supervisor. Although D09 cannot disobey its leader figure, this does not mean that it cannot think on its own. This specimen was enhanced to be able to make decisions and understand strategies, though its core truths and some orders are set by another.
D09's "core orders" and leader figure can be changed verbally while it is in its listening state. This state is activated after speaking the phrase "██████ ██ ███ ██████ ███ ██████ ███ ██████" and deactivated after speaking the phrase "████ ████ ██ ████ ██ ████ ██████ █ ████". These phrases should not be known by any unauthorized individual, and these phrases should be whispered when possible.

SCP-XXXX-3
A close up image of SCP-XXXX-3-B
Item #: SCP-XXXX-3
Special Containment Procedures: The two components of SCP-XXXX-3 are to be kept in one aviary in Area-14, a 50 meter tall dome with a diameter of 100 meters. The aviary is made of 1 inch thick tempered glass. The glass is reinforced by a steel framing. Electrical collars with attached trackers are fastened to both of the specimens to monitor their locations and prevent them from exiting their site without authorization. The specimens appear to understand why they must be monitored closely and why they must wear collars.
Though the constituents of SCP-XXXX-3 are contained by the Foundation, they have been assessed to pose virtually no threat to anyone inside the Foundation or otherwise. Despite their potential danger, these two specimens have a safe record and are recorded to be considerate of humans and other creatures. As per request of Area-14 personnel, under strict supervision, the two are allowed out of their aviary once a month to visit the rest of the site. This visitation has become routine, as requested by Area-14 personnel. Generally, the specimens are friendly with humans. The visitation serves as a boost in morale of site personnel, and is currently scheduled to continue until otherwise ordered. The specimens have exhibited rudimentary greetings with body language and calls on these visits in the past.
Description: The two entities that constitute SCP-XXXX-3 are two products of AANEP, the Artificial Neural Enhancement Project. The two parts of SCP-XXXX-3 are SCP-XXXX-3-A (code name "Yin") and SCP-XXXX-3-B (code name "Yang").4 These specimens were the third and final successful result of AANEP's scientists' work, before the initiative shut down.5 The two went through enhancement on February 1st, 1944. These two specimens are of accipiter gentilis, commonly known as the northern goshawk.
As well as heightened intelligence, these two specimens were made to have their own human-like moral systems. More information in Project Faunus Entity Assessment Log below.
As the two specimens were the first successful ones to understand war and what it entails, they had developed some conditions caused by their multiple years of service in World War II. One of the repercussions of this is the specimens' response to a number of certain triggers. The most notable of these triggers are the following: in SCP-XXXX-3-A, it is the german word "granate", for grenade. In SCP-XXXX-3-B, it is the sound of an airplane's engine
Profect Faunus Entity Assessment Log:
Entity Assessment Log Number: 3
AANEP Given Name: F27-A, F27-B
Code names: Yin, Yang
Species: Accipiter gentilis
Date Enlisted: 2/10/1944
Date Retired: 9/02/1945
Performance Notes: Northern Goshawks were requested for their ability to fly with great agility and silence, and do this with great speed. As a part of their training, F27-A and F27-B were taught how to effectively use some lighter firearms and bladed weapons (using their beaks and talons in place of hands). Its beak and talons are large, and prove to be useful weapons in combat. As other specimens have in the past, F27-A and F27-B have been provided and trained with specialized weapons and other equipment. The two specimens are to carry out missions together, utilizing their strength as a pair in combat. The two can communicate through a series of calls.
Psychological Notes: The two components of AANEP-F27 was the first of Project Faunus's soldiers to have morals implemented into their enhancement, a technology recently discovered by Doctor ██████. The technology was developed to be an even more effective solution to B80's deficiency than was provided with D09, as the two no longer require a human by their side. Human leadership limits stealth and mobility. B80 now represents the first instance of a complete intelligence with human levels of understanding in an animal. As such, more frequent psychological check-ups are recommended with B80.
Implementing D09's system of setting some core ideas into F27's enhancement was not possible with B80; the embedding of thoughts may be perceived by B80 as wrong, potentially resulting in lack of cooperation. Additionally, threatening the soldiers into cooperation was not an option. The soldiers could flee or overpower Project Faunus security. For this reason, we have been forced to trust the soldiers' moral systems to keep them from rebelling and rely only on the fact that there are two subjects as a fail safe; if one does rebel or display undesirable behavior, the other would likely be able to immobilize or at least preoccupy the rebelling soldier long enough for it to be recaptured.
