Mung Fridge
Item # SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: Must always wear protective gear, at the very minimum, respiratory
protection such as a mask. SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a concrete room with a sealed door and airlocks. No
personnel is allowed access unless given permission for testing. No biological matter is allowed in or out.
If any biological matter such as food is contaminated by SCP-XXXX, it must be promptly secured in a
sealed case and tossed into a furnace to prevent the spreading of the mold known as “Mung”. The type
of mold is not known, but proven very dangerous and very apt to spread quickly on any surface
Description: SCP-XXXX or known as “Mung Fridge” is a non-operational fridge that was kept in an
unstable environment before being moved into special containment. This unstable environment
included varying temperatures and unsafe handling. The Mung fridge started off as a joke and was
created by high school students, all of which locations are now unknown.
When opened, the mold or
“Mung" is released into the air. If breathed in, the mold goes into the lungs attaches to them. The mold
begins to grow rapidly, causing the subject to struggle with breathing and in some cases, pass out from
lack of oxygen. The mold then proceeds to infect other parts of the body, mainly the nervous system.
The mold grows up the spine and into the brain. This process makes the patient act differently, mainly
aggressively. After a variable amount of time has passed, the subject’s movements become slowed,
their speech slurred or become mute, and the senses impaired. The patient suffers 20 to 30 minutes of
excruciating pain before falling into a comatose state. After going into the coma, the subject
deteriorates into a pile of mold. The subject is still living through out this whole process until the heart
and brain are completely molded over.
Based off this testing, it is assumed that the 3 piles of the mold were 3 of the 6 young adults who created the “Mung Fridge" in the location of which SCP-XXXX was
retrieved.
The food that is in the fridge consisted of molded bread, half eaten yogurt cup, a pan ofp a white mess
with a mass of foam coming up out of it, an apple, apple sauce that had black mold on it, a half full jar of
salsa, crackers, sausage, and cheese, and another pan with an unknown red and brown liquid at the
bottom.
