Item#: SCP-59898
Object Class: Euclid
Special containment procedures: SCP-59898 Must be contained in a medical organ donor box lined with salt on the inside. The box that contains SCP-59898 must be kept in a standard containment locker within Storage Wing[] in Site[] Personel with level 3 clearance or higher may perform tests on SCP-59898.
Description: SCP-59898 is a healthy human heart that beats at around 85BPM at rest without the need of a body. SCP-59898 has a mass of 350g,12cm in length,8cm in width and 6cm in thickness, with a weight at around 12 ounces.SCP-59898 never stops beating nor dries up when left in the open air, always keeping a moistened look and texture as it would in a body, but it never shows to excrete any kind of substance. SCP-59898 does not pump anything in or outside of it as a normal heart would.
SCP-59898, when sustaining some physical damage, can heal itself in 1.5 minutes with an increase in beating at 100BPM. After the initial healing, SCP-59898 drastically slows its beating down to 40BPM for about 5 minutes before returning to the rest beat rate. If 40% of physical injury is sustained by SCP-59898, anyone within a 5-meter distance of SCP-59898 will collapse and eventually die in the next 3 hours. Further testing with damaging SCP-59898 has been prohibited. Studies show that those who stay within 5 meter limit of SCP-59898 have a 3% rate of dying quicker than those who are outside the limit. This rate increases depending on how much damage SCP-59898 has sustained.
Direct skin contact with SCP-59898 will cause the victim to enter a dazed unresponsive state before regaining composure again. Those who make direct skin contact with SCP-59898 are referred to as SCP-59898-A. SCP-59898-A holds few physical changes, the most obvious being the subject's eyes. SCP-59898-A's Iris's changes to the color of darkly red velvet, while the pupil begins to dilate and expand in time with the beating of SCP-59898. SCP-59898-A's personalities change as well as their speech. Most instances with SCP-59898-A has something, or someone different. It is rare to see a familiar "persona" with SCP-59898-A but not impossible, having met with a man by the name of Harvey two times in the span of a month. Each instance or personality pulled in by SCP-59898 is completely at random and by chance that can either differ drastically or result in a familiar "face".
After SCP-59898-A removes contact with SCP-59898, the subject nearly immediately falls into a deep coma and passes away in the next hour. It is like this after every instance with SCP-59898.
Additional notes: The true origins of SCP-59898 are unknown, as the only way, we'd truly know where SCP-59898 truly came from is from the organ's original owner if there even is one. SCP-59898 was retrieved after various reports spoke or told of a man traversing the streets of Europe with a beating heart in his hands.
The first instance, SCP-59898-A began speaking in fluent german and referred to themselves as Emmery[ ], A young girl who lived in Germany in the midst of WW1 despite the fact that the subject who was in contact with SCP-59898 was a Male in his mid 30's who had no fluent knowledge of languages outside of English.
It is to be assumed that SCP-59898 steals or eats the souls and life force of nearby living entities. The closer one is to SCP-59898, the faster and more likely for them to pass away. It is to be believed that the souls of those taken by SCP-59898 are trapped in the organ and can only be "freed" If they were lucky enough to be awakened when direct contact is made with SCP-59898.
SCP-59898's effects and don't appear to work when the organ touches pure salt, and due to this discovery containment procedures are to be followed.
SCP-59898 is allowed to be used as a "death penalty" for rule-breaking personnel and subjects. It is beneficial for both ends as the foundation may gain more info on SCP-59898, and peacefully get rid of violaters.
