Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX may be provided with puzzles and toys when it expresses a desire for said objects. All other special requests are to be denied as per standard Foundation policy.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a sapient humanoid, standing at approx. 152 cm tall and weighing 44 kg. SCP-XXXX was discovered in a previously unexplored section of a cave in ███████, South Africa.
SCP-XXXX bears physical and behavioural traits similar to that of homo sapiens and pan troglodytes (chimpanzee), however analysis of SCP-XXXX's bone structure and DNA have found that it fits into neither the Pan nor Homo genera. Although SCP-XXXX appears to have numerous traits in common with multiple extinct hominin species,1 due to its anomalous abilities, it has been concluded that it is highly unlikely that SCP-XXXX belongs to any species currently known to science, extinct or otherwise.

SCP-XXXX possesses a form of complex language, a fact that is markedly unusual considering its relatively limited brain capacity. Although SCP-XXXX's has human-like hearing, it primarily communicates through a form of sign language.. It is likely that the language is non-verbal due to the fact that SCP-XXXX lacks the neuroanatomical features associated with speech.
Prior to its death, SCP-XXXX-12 provided the Foundation with sufficient information to be able to engage in simple communication with SCP-XXXX. However, it is likely that this information is not representative of the entirety of the language SCP-XXXX uses, thus it is currently unknown exactly how complicated and extensive SCP-XXXX’s language is.

Although SCP-XXXX only seems to be capable of "speaking" one language, it is able to understand the general intent of anyone speaking to it regardless of the language used. This ability to understand communication universally is retained notwithstanding of SCP-XXXX's distance from human subjects or whether a barrier is kept between it and the subject. This is different to SCP-XXXX’s primary anomalous effects, which can be eliminated by these variables.
SCP-XXXX refers to itself as "The Lost One". During its lifetime, SCP-XXXX-1 also referred to SCP-XXXX in these terms.

SCP-XXXX regularly expresses a desire for physical contact, and its rate of activity and general alertness greatly increases when in human company. Thus far, SCP-XXXX has made no known escape attempts. SCP-XXXX is generally docile and co-operative, although it can be provoked into periods of agitation under the right stimuli.

SCP-XXXX's anomalous traits become apparent when a human subject is exposed to it for extended periods of time.
Periods of contact with SCP-XXXX >12 hrs can result in a significant decrease in IQ, migraines, confusion, memory loss, seizures, and alteration of language capabilities. Changes in the physical structure of the brain (namely a decrease in the size of Broca's area, Wernicke's area, hippocampus, and the frontal lobe) have been observed. These effects do not seem to occur when a solid barrier or a distance greater than 10 m is established between SCP-XXXX and human subjects.

The only known human subjects to have been affected by the anomalous traits of SCP-XXXX are both currently deceased.3

It is currently unknown if SCP-XXXX has any conscious control over its anomalous abilities.
