Shampoo being acidic is to be marketed to the public that the acidity "makes hair shiny and feel smooth". Shampoo are made acidic² to have a mild eye-irritant effect to encourage users to wash out shampoo before opening their eyes. Should any shampoo enter the eye, users will feel a stinging sensation and should attempt to get rid of the shampoo from the eye and hair.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a anomalous phenomenon that occurs when individuals have shampoo in their eye when rinsing it out. If an individual does this they will die by [working on this].

Doesn't have to even be shampoo as long as the user believes they are using shampoo.

Using a different name other then shampoo doesn't prevent people dying. As long as the name has the same meaning as shampoo.

Wiping all knowledge of shampoo from human history always has shampoo coming back even when foundation tries to prevent it.

Unknown how many times foundation has wiped knowledge of shampoo even from themselves.

Very likely shampoo isn't the original name.
