SCP-XXXX

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-XXXX cannot be contained in any facility, this is due to the fact that if an organism enters the territory of the skull with the intent of handling or capturing it, SCP-XXXX will not show itself to anyone or anything whatsoever. It is unknown where the skull goes during this time, but it's hypothesized that SCP-XXXX will bury itself since once it shows up again, it has a noticeable addition to the dirt that covered it previously.

Even though it doesn't allow itself to be handled or captured, the skull has never strayed from the perimeter of its forest territory for as long as it has been observed.

Description:
SCP-XXXX is a 30cm long, very old raven skull, though exact age is unknown. SCP-XXXX is covered in dirt and moss and is very worn with small pieces broken off.

SCP-XXXX appears to be semi-intelligent and not just an inanimate object. It can "sense" if something can see it and will cease movement until it can't be seen again, or will hide itself completely if it knows that the invader wants to capture it.

SCP-XXXX's territory is located in an area of the [something] Forest in Yosemite National Park, this area is also consistently covered in thick fog, even during conditions where it wouldn't be normally possible. If something enters this area, the skull will then stalk them until they become scared and leave, or die. The skull does this by appearing in the vicinity of the victim whenever they turn or blink. It never directly kills, but induces extreme paranoia, which can lead to poor decisions and ultimately death for the victim. If they die within SCP-XXXX’s territory, the organism's body will rapidly decompose, with the process being completed 3-24 hours after the time of death depending on the size of the victim, leaving only the skeleton behind. For this reason, this section of forest is littered with countless skeletons, mostly those of small forest animals like squirrels or rabbits, but there are the occasional human ones.

The only skeletons not present are those belonging to birds of any kind, but it is unknown whether this is because the skull has no effect on them, or because they are able to leave the area quickly and easily due to their ability of flight. There are no nests within SCP-XXXX's territory however, so the latter explanation is more plausible.

Addendum: Test Logs on the Effectiveness of SCP-XXXX
D-Boy test logs testing whether SCP-XXXX still affects them even under certain conditions.
-frontal lobe damage (where fear comes from) - no paranoia or fear, but is slightly uncomfortable
-trained to work under pressure (military service?) - extreme paranoia

Subject: D-0310

Procedure:
This D-Class personnel has been blind since birth and was guided into the territory of SCP-XXXX. Subject showed no signs of being affected by the skull whatsoever, even when the skull was visible to researchers.

Results:
Hypothesized that individuals are only affected by SCP-XXXX if they can see the skull itself.

Analysis:

Subject: D-1226

Procedure:
This D-Class was diagnosed with glaucoma at a very young age and is now almost completely blind in both eyes. Subject was placed into the territory of SCP-XXXX. Once the skull began to stalk the D-1226, they reported feelings of being watched and said they were "a little nervous" about being in that section of the forest, but nothing comparable to the full effects of the anomaly.

Results:
Hypothesis that SCP-XXXX can only affect those who can see it is further supported by these results.

Analysis:

Subject: D-4928

Procedure:
LOOK THIS UP - The subject had a head injury that damaged the frontal lobe (the part of the brain that controls fear). Subject was placed into SCP-XXXX's territory and when the skull was spotted following the subject, they reported feeling uncomfortable, but not necessarily scared of the presence.
