Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a clear display case, secured with a minimum of four padlocks on each side. All 4 keys are to be kept directly on the pre-determined hooks below the corresponding lock. The object is to have four cameras monitoring it from directions exactly cardinal to the object. Any subjects allowed to interact with SCP-XXXX must be immediately interviewed. After said interview each subject is to be give an amnesiac, and then transferred to a secure location to be monitored for no less than 72 hours. After Event-XXXX-63 [See Interview-XXXX-63] all tests and research involving SCP-XXXX are to be halted.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a large leather-bound tome with pages made out of what appears to be paper, however carbon dating places the object to be well over five thousand years old. The cover's markings rearrange daily, and should be monitored for any further changes. No known languages or numerical systems can be used to translate the markings. Each page is blank if the object is not being handled by bare human hands.
Once held each page gains writing in what appears to primarily be ancient Sumerian, although it has also been noted to be in Latin, ancient Greek, Egyptian hieroglyphs, Nordic runes, and Irish. Anyone who reads the object knows how to read the language, disregarding actual knowledge of languages. While holding the object open the subjects may read aloud any page from the object, should they complete reading of a full page a seemingly random effect occurs [See Addendum-XXXX-1]. After-effects of the events include three main factors.
- SCP is seen to no longer require the subject holding the object to retain writing within
- Object is seen to hover 1.5m above the ground
- Object will shimmer and a disembodied voice will speak to subject
Post-event voice can not be recorded via audio recorders and any other subjects besides the holder of the object do not hear said voice. Typically the voice has been noted as talking about subjects ranging from the current weather, to the state of the geopolitical world.
Secondary Note: As of ██/██/██03 all interactions outside observation of SCP-XXXX are to be ceased per the order of the O5 Council.
Addendum-XXXX-1: NOTE This Addendum to be updated post every test involving SCP-XXXX.
Known Effects caused by SCP-XXXX:
- Ham and Cheese sandwich appears in hands of subject
- Subject painlessly loses all fingernails, and toenails
- Subject has all metal removed from body seemingly via teleportation
