Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX-A is to be held in a waterproofed containment chamber in Site-██. Maintenance of the object and chamber is performed monthly. Items fitting Profile-AHB are not to be brought within 150 m of SCP-XXXX outside of testing. Personnel are to be screened for prior involvement with whaling, illegally or otherwise, before entering.

Description: SCP-XXXX-A is a replica of the skeleton of a Sei whale (B. borealis) composed solely of copper. It shows heavy oxidation, and severe weathering.

Over time, the terrain or structure surrounding the object will begin to display water damage, concentrations of salt, and the presence of nonnative organisms, primarily algae and mollusks [see Document-XXXX-L for a comprehensive list].

Individuals located within 170 m of the object have reported hearing distant, unfamiliar voices, strong wind, or whale calls originating from the area of SCP-XXXX-A, all of which evoke a reaction of distress. Attempts to record these phenomena have failed.

Both categories of effects are aggravated when objects matching Profile-AHB are brought within 10 m of SCP-XXXX-A. Objects fitting this profile usually, but not exclusively, meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • A previous use as a tool or weapon in the hunting or processing of marine life.
  • Made of or using products derived from marine mammals.
  • Written materials mentioning the amusement park “████████”

For notable examples, exceptions, and clarification refer to Document-XXXX-AHB.

SCP-XXXX-B are audiovisual hallucinations caused by proximity to SCP-XXXX-A. They vary in content, and have been known to affect multiple individuals simultaneously. SCP-XXXX-B heavily feature marine life and images related to the ocean, and typically cause intense feelings of remorse, confusion, and anxiety in subjects.

Long term exposure has resulted in post traumatic symptoms and reoccurring dreams, the latter of which has been proven to persist through application of amnestics.

Recovery: SCP-XXXX was initially discovered in storage at the ███ ███████ Whaling Museum. It had been donated anonymously to the museum, and staff were unable to determine its origin. It was held for at least two months without displaying any anomalous properties. The museum is being monitored for other potential anomalies until further notice.
