Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-4687 is to be kept in a large, airtight container on Site-66. The confines of the container are to be thoroughly cleaned of organic growth every day, and neutralized according to Onsite Protocol. In addition to cleaning, any form of deterioration in the walls, floor, or ceiling of SCP-4687’s containment chamber is to be reported to an Onsite Containment Engineer immediately. The pressure inside SCP-4687’s containment chamber may never exceed 0.75 atm.

Personnel entering or exiting SCP-4687’s containment area are to be decontaminated and while in its containment unit, are to be wearing hazmat suits designed for protection against biological hazards with the capability to withstand near-vacuum environments. During cleaning, the pressure inside SCP-4687’s containment area is to be adjusted to 0.25 atm. Any air exiting the containment chamber is to be heavily filtered, and any biological residue is to be neutralized via incineration.

If a containment breach of SCP-4687 occurs, or an instance of SCP-4687-1 is detected, Site Command is to request immediate support from Mobile Task Force Unit Theta-4, and Beta-7. Site-66 is then to be placed into Full Site Lockdown until containment has been restored. After successful containment, Site-66 is to be placed on a 72-hour quarantine protocol, and during this time all personnel are to be tested for the presence of Pathogen-4687-B. In the event that a new instance of SCP-4687-1 is discovered, the quarantine protocol must restart. Normal site activities may resume following the conclusion of the quarantine.

Description:
SCP-4687 is an organic anomaly, roughly 7 meters tall, and is composed of dirt, wood, and Pathogen-4687-B. The SCP resembles a large humanoid, with two horn-like protrusions coming from its head. The entity is very resilient, extremely intelligent, and under standard atmospheric conditions, very strong. The strength and aggression of the entity is directly related to the amount of air it is consuming. Two critical points in its strength have been identified as 0.32 atm and 0.83 atm. Any pressure below .32 atm will cause the SCP to be essentially unconscious, however alive. The only time the pressure inside containment should be this low is during cleaning. When the pressure returns to standard containment pressure, the SCP is temporarily more aggressive. Any pressure above 0.83 atm will almost ensure a containment breach due to the strength and aggression of SCP-4687 at this pressure. Any pressure between .32 atm and 0.83 atm is considered the “Safe Zone”.

SCP-4687 while dormant is able to create vine-like appendages from itself, designated Compound-4687-A. SCP-4687 is very protective of Compound-4687-A, killing any person or animal attempting to kill or destroy Compound-4687-A. Wildlife feeding on Compound-4687-A for survival were found to be spared by SCP-4687. Compound-4687-A appears to be completely dependent on SCP-4687 for survival via a direct connection, as well as the air around it. A lack of either of these things will either slow the growth of Compound-4687-A or kill it completely. Compound-4687-A also contains Pathogen-4687-B and will deposit it into the air and whatever it is growing on.

Pathogen-4687-B is organic in nature and can be extracted from SCP-4687 in small amounts. Pathogen-4687-B is extremely resilient to all forms of destruction, even on a small scale. Pathogen-4687-B has also been observed to be able to self-repair and self-replicate, however, this process is slow and it is possible to completely destroy and neutralize Pathogen-4687-B. Pathogen-4687-B also requires a direct connection to SCP-4687, Compound-4687-A, or a live animal cell. A lack of any of these things for longer than 28 hours will cause it to die. It should also be noted that Pathogen-4687-B is able to split apart metal if left to replicate for long enough by utilizing small cracks and imperfections in the metal. This function does not appear to be natural to Pathogen-4687-B, as it started to occur approximately five weeks after initial containment.

It is possible for Pathogen-4687-B to enter the respiratory system of a human or animal. When this occurs, the subject involved is reclassified as SCP-4687-1. After three hours of being infected with Pathogen-4687-B, SCP-4687-1 will slowly start to emit Pathogen-4687-B from themselves however this is largely invisible to the naked eye, and SCP-4687-1 will still retain full control of their bodies and will be unknowing to the fact that they have been infected with Pathogen-4687-B. At around 6-8 hours since infection, SCP-4687-1 will be under the direct control of SCP-4687, they will have a yellow tint to their skin, and will attempt to spread Pathogen-4687-B as much as possible, or to attempt to breach SCP-4687 from containment. Personnel affected by Pathogen-4687-B also offer a direct line of communication to SCP-4687. It is possible to fully cure an instance of SCP-4687-1, however after approximately 18 hours since infection, this becomes impossible. It should be noted that an instance of SCP-4687-1 will still retain all knowledge they had prior to infection, regardless of what stage they are in, making it possible for an instance of SCP-4786-1 to breach SCP-4687 from containment. Because of this, any suspicious activity or attempts to access SCP-4786 without proper authorization should be reported to the nearest Security Officer immediately.
