Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe Euclid
Photograph of SCP-XXXX-1, taken after Incident XXXX-C.
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be stored within a locked aluminum briefcase sealed by two combination locks when not in use for testing. SCP-XXXX will be stored within this briefcase in a locked room located at Site 19. Within the room, SCP-XXXX will be kept in the briefcase on a flat tabletop surface measuring at least 50 cm x 50 cm. Should an individual accidentally touch SCP-XXXX they are instructed to fully complete the assembly process, before storing it back within its briefcase. After completing and returning SCP-XXXX to its case, individuals will be administered Class-B amnestics.
Three cameras will be placed throughout the room to allow surveillance of SCP-XXXX during testing. Access to the room will be restricted to individuals of Level 2 clearance and beyond, while access to the surveillance room will be restricted to individuals of Level 3 clearance and beyond. Testing will be conducted by Class D personnel at times scheduled by Dr. ████████. As of 14/05/20██, testing has been suspended by the order of Dr. ████████.
Description: SCP-XXXX is comprised of two objects, designated SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2. SCP-XXXX-1 is a five-hundred-piece jigsaw puzzle, measuring 48.26 cm x 48.26 cm. When not in use, SCP-XXXX rests within SCP-XXXX-2, a box advertising “500 PIECE STANDARD JIGSAW PUZZLE, OPTICAL ILLUSION TO PRANK YOUR FRIENDS”. There is no bar code on SCP-XXXX-2, nor any indication on the manufacturer. Upon being stationed in the same room as SCP-XXXX-2, individuals have reported a curiosity to open the box and examine the contents. Upon touching a piece or pieces of SCP-XXXX-1, individuals have become obsessed with completion of the puzzle. When a subject fully assembles SCP-XXXX-1, the puzzle will depict the location of the subject’s death. Completed versions of SCP-XXXX-1 therefore differ depending on the individual who has assembled it.
The first known use of SCP-XXXX was documented by █████████ Police Department on 12/12/19██. Thomasin ████ was discovered by local law enforcement on the coast of Lake Michigan, although no clear cause of death was established. Upon investigating the ████ household, crime scene investigators discovered SCP-XXXX-1 in its completed form, depicting the coastline where the corpse of Thomasin ████ was discovered, situated beside SCP-XXXX-2. Due to the suspicious nature of the individual’s death and the suspicious depiction of the crime scene by SCP-XXXX-1, the Foundation was notified and took SCP-XXXX into custody.
Foundation testing of SCP-XXXX has determined SCP-XXXX-1 can only depict the location of death, with no additional circumstances or causes depicted in the puzzle’s landscape. It is unknown whether SCP-XXXX causes death or merely predicts it.
Addendum: Test Log of Dr. ███████
Incident XXXX-A
Date: 08/12/1994
Subject: D-3943
Modifications: None.
Image of completed SCP-XXXX-1: Termination Chamber.
Fate of Subject: D-3943 was terminated the first day of the following month as scheduled, matching with the prediction of SCP-XXXX-1.
Notes: Following D-3943’s completion of SCP-XXXX-1, the entity was not subject to any Foundation interference. However, 24 hours after D-3943 completed SCP-XXXX-1 it dematerialized. Weight analysis of the briefcase indicates SCP-XXXX-1 had materialized within SCP-XXXX-2.
Incident XXXX-B
Date: 11/01/1995
Subject: D-3956
Modifications: D-3956 is to be locked in an isolated room during scheduled termination.
Image of completed SCP-XXXX-1: Termination Chamber.
Fate of Subject: D-3956 entered the Termination Chamber three days prior to scheduled termination, evading the intended isolation. Video footage of the Termination Chamber shows D-3956 hanging himself with a makeshift noose constructed from his uniform.
Notes: It seems that knowing the time of death would be useful to try and fully isolate the subject.
Incident XXXX-C
Date: 14/02/1995
Subject: D-3961
Modifications: Following completion of SCP-XXXX-1 assembly, subject will learn time of death from SCP-657. Upon learning the time of death, research staff will lock D-3961 in an isolated room two hours before the predicted time of death.
Image of completed SCP-XXXX-1: Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany
Fate of Subject: Determining the time of death from SCP-657, D-3961 was confined to an isolated room with video surveillance. Upon the time of death predicted by SCP-657, D-3961 dematerialized. Hours later, Site-19 was contacted by Foundation agents at Site-54 in Germany, informing them of the discovery of D-3961 at Neuschwanstein Castle.
Notes: Let’s try and avoid testing for a while, as we’d prefer to avoid Class D personnel materializing in civilian locations across the world.
Incident XXXX-D
Date: 07/10/1998
Subjects: D-4882 & D-4883
Modification: As previous tests were only conducted by an individual, two subjects will work together to assemble SCP-XXXX-1 to determine if it will display each subjects’ place of death or a single location.
Image of completed SCP-XXXX-1: SCP-XXXX containment room.
Fate of Subjects: Immediately upon completion of SCP-XXXX-1, D-4882 and D-4883 collapsed to the floor of the containment room, convulsing for a sustained 20 seconds. Their bodies then went limp, and they were confirmed to be deceased.
Incident XXXX-E
Date: 22/12/1998
Subject: D-4919
Modification: After D-4919 begins assembling SCP-XXXX-1, two armed guards (Guards B████ and S███) will enter the containment room. Guards will attempt to confiscate the pieces of SCP-XXXX-1 and prevent subject from completing SCP-XXXX-1.
Image of completed SCP-XXXX-1: Incomplete (D-4919); ███ █████ Assisted Living Center in ████████, FL (Guard B████).
Fate of Subject: Upon the confiscation of a piece of SCP-XXXX-1 by Guard B████, D-4919 lunged at the guard, indecipherably screaming at the agent. Guard S███ terminated D-4919 before substantial harm could be inflicted upon Guard B████. However, Guard B████, who had touched a piece of SCP-XXXX-1, soon began to assemble the puzzle for himself. Dr. ███████ allowed the process to continue, with Guard B████ successfully completing SCP-XXXX-1. Guard B████ is still living, as of 11/10/20██.
Notes: Perhaps guards should non-lethally handle subjects in future testing.
Incident XXXX-F
Date: 11/11/1999
Subject: D-4933
Modification: After D-4933 begins assembling SCP-XXXX-1, four armed guards will enter the containment room. D-4933 will be forcefully separated from SCP-XXXX. D-4933 will be kept in an isolated room under surveillance. Armed guards are instructed to avoid contact with SCP-XXXX.
Image of completed SCP-XXXX-1: Incomplete.
Fate of Subject: Upon removal from the containment room, D-4933 began to emit the vocalizations made by D-4919 in Incident XXXX-E. Guards were successfully able to subdue D-4933 without touching any instances of SCP-XXXX, isolating D-4933. Video surveillance found that D-4933 had managed to hold one piece of SCP-XXXX-1, despite the forceful separation. 24 hours after the separation, SCP-XXXX materialized in D-4933’s isolation room. D-4933 was terminated by guards before any attempts to complete SCP-XXXX-1. Guards waited 24 hours for SCP-XXXX-1 to materialize within SCP-XXXX-2, before securing SCP-XXXX-2 within its original briefcase, transporting it back to its containment room.
Notes: SCP-XXXX has been upgraded to a Euclid-class entity.
Incident XXXX-G
Date: 04/09/20██.
Subject: SCP-████, known as D-4944 prior to Incident XXXX-G
Modification: None.
Image of completed SCP-XXXX-1: A completely white background with block text reading “NOWHERE.”
Fate of Subject: Subject was spared typical D-class termination and was instead placed in a heavily isolated room with limited interactions, under close surveillance due to the anomalous response from SCP-XXXX-1. On Christmas Day, 20██, D-4944 was found hanging from his room, using his bedsheets as a noose. D-4944 was transferred to the medical unit, where it was determined his neck had successfully broken yet he had survived. While undergoing evaluation from medical personnel, D-4944 grabbed a scalpel and slit his own throat open. He bled profusely yet was able to survive despite high quantities of blood loss. After receiving medical treatment, D-4944 was designated SCP-████ and was taken into containment despite its requests to be euthanized.
Notes: It seems that SCP-XXXX-1 does more than predict the location of death. Due to Incidents XXXX-D and XXXX-G, I have reason to believe SCP-XXXX is influencing these deaths, or lack thereof. With the creation of SCP-████, I am suspending testing of SCP-XXXX.
