Item #: SCP-4XXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4XXX is to be kept in a powered down state in one of Site-15's isolated storage units. Only those with security clearance level 2 or above are allowed to access SCP-4XXX's containment area. The walls, ceiling, and floor are to be coated in glass nano spheres in case of a containment breach at which point a 1,000 lumen light fixture on the ceiling will turn on causing a flashback effect to temporarily blind SCP-4XXX's optical sensor. Any personnel handling SCP-4XXX must be equipped with a rubber insulated arc flash suit and heavy eye protection. Personnel who currently have a Pacemaker, Cardioverter-defibrilator, or any implanted cardiovascular assistance device are not allowed within SCP-4XXX's chambers unless specifically instructed to by the Site Director or 05 Council.

Description: SCP-4XXX is a 0.5m x 0.3m x 0.5m stainless steel rectangular prism, weighing in at 51.4 kg. One 10cm long slit is present on the top face of the box. Just below the slit, a gray button and a USB port are present. On the front of the box a modified 360° security camera is mounted with 4 hex bolt screws. Underneath the box are two miniature tank treads, which allow it to traverse the area to hunt its target. SCP-4XXX has been measured to travel at speeds up to 5km/h while hunting its target.

In order to set SCP-4XXX's target a flash drive with a text document containing the name and general location of the target separated by a comma (I.E. John Smith, Site 15) must be inserted into the USB port. This applies to pets and animals as well, however the animal in question must be named for it to be properly be set as a target. SCP-4XXX's is activated upon pressing the gray button while a USB drive fitting the requirements is inside the port. If a USB failing to meet the requirements is inside the port upon startup, SCP-4XXX will simply target the nearest living organism. (Or upon trying to open SCP-4XXX. See Incident 4XXX-1 for more details.) SCP-4XXX will then go through a short startup process. Upon startup, SCP-4XXX will spin in circles until it finds it's target. It will continue to spin if the target is not within its line of sight. If it happens to spot its target it will accelerate to full speed and pursue the target. If the target comes within a 3 meter radius of SCP-4XXX, it will launch a 2m x 2m highly flexible copper mesh from its slit using what is theorized to be a spring launch mechanism. SCP-4XXX will then flow upwards of 250 milliamps of electric current into the mesh, electrocuting anything caught within SCP-4XXX's net. After approximately 3 seconds of constant electric flow, it will retract the net using a crank system located within its steel hull. Where SCP-4XXX generates its power is unknown, but it is believed by foundation personnel there is an extremely small scale fission reactor located in its chassis. This claim is backed up by low traces of radiation emanating from SCP-4XXX's backside.

Addendum: If SCP-4XXX sees its target and begins to proceed towards it, if another living organism is not allowing it to progress towards its target, it will begin trying to convince the organism to let it pass. A speaker within its hull will ask kindly, in what sounds to be a middle aged caucasian male voice, "Please refrain." If the organism in question happens to be an animal, it will communicate with the animal using a series of shrieks, growls, and whistles. Animals seem to understand these signals, as if SCP-4XXX is speaking to them. If the organism continues to hinder SCP-4XXX, it will repeat the phrase, "Please refrain." After asking 3 more times, SCP-4XXX will simply make the organism their target instead.

Addendum 2, regarding incident 4XXX-1: On July 21, 2009, Senior Researcher [REDACTED] and his team of three other researchers were conducting a few experiments on SCP-4XXX. The fourth in their series of experiments was to open up SCP-4XXX in an attempt to view the circuitry and mechanisms on the inside. Immediately upon trying to loosen one of the hex bolt screws, the research team was met by an incredibly high pitched screech coming from inside of SCP-4XXX. SCP-4XXX booted up, and tried to electrocute the research team. SCP-4XXX's containment breach protocols were activated, and the team quickly retreated from the containment chamber.
