Item #: XXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: All businesses specializing in tourism surrounding the Alps mountain range have been acquired by the Foundation. All tourism events will be monitored and coordinated by field operatives assuming the role of tour guides, skiing instructors, hike leaders, etc. Due to the exploratory and unpredictable nature of civilian exploration within the tourism industry, all event routes and locations will be planned by Foundation personnel with the intent of preventing civilian contact with the entrance to Site-114.

Description: XXX is the remains of a subterranean organism lying beneath and within the European Alps mountain range. Through application of seismic measurements, ground-penetrating sonar, and excavation efforts, the size of XXX is determined to have a length of roughly 1,120km, with a body diameter of 180km. Correlation between the subject's outline and the Alps mountain range are disputed among Foundation personnel, though common sense dictates that, due to the age of the subject, and the precise nature of the relationship between XXX's outline and the mountain range itself, that one may be responsible for the other.

A brief aside describing the appearance of the creature will be necessary. What is it modeled after? What's believable?

The below is the forum post:

Some remnants from ancient, unknowable times should be forgotten, lest they remember humanity.

I trimmed your thread summary above, since it was taking up a lot of space on the forum listing. Try to keep thread descriptions and titles under 7 lines so you don't visually crowd out other people's threads. ~Zyn

Hello, and welcome. Don't be gentle with this critique.

As the title suggests, this SCiP idea is for a singular entity that is the European mountain range known as the Alps. Ancient and unknown (until now, obviously), it has since become covered in the dirt and earth, ice and snow, to form the Alpine mountain range.

However, the "hook" of this creature being that it wasn't some random thing that existed for the hell of it. The creature's original purpose was as a biological war machine in an age clearly not documented by any as-of-yet-discovered sources. When humanity was… Something else. Thoughts of the precursor race from the Assassin's Creed games (or any form of media with a semi-supernatural human precursor, really) come to mind. A creature intent on destruction descended from the cosmos from an extraterrestrial foe, aiming to wipe out humanity. Subterranean in nature, it was designed to dig through the earth itself and destroy it from within.

However, it was slain, and from its body, the Alps grew from its corpse, the land uplifted from the conflict to form the vague outline of the creature. The exact circumstances around its death, as to how it was killed via external means is unknown, though the common hypothesis points towards a combined effort through both blunt-force trauma and immolation. The largely petrified and fossilized remains show large-scale scorch marks along its titanic, sometimes fragmented, cracked, and pulverized skeleton, and the samples of tissue able to extracted show immense charring. The skin itself, that which has survived intact, is rubbery and was once slick with an unidentified oil with other anomalous properties. The skeleton and remnants are slightly more radioactive than should be expected. While still being within safe levels for human tolerance, it is hypothesized that it once was white-hot before the radioactivity decayed over the millennia, though why it is radioactive is unknown.

Obviously, this SCP raises question. How did it die? What could pound and immolate something so large made by humanity, or something else on this earth when it was alive? Why was it sent here, clearly not of Earth for containing materials not found naturally on this planet? Is whatever sent it still out there? Are they still hostile?
