Special Containment Procedures: Computer repair services and civil engineering companies are to be monitored worldwide for any calls or activity fitting the description of an SCP-XXXX related incident. MTF Mu-4 ("Debuggers") are to be dispatched to the location of SCP-XXXX manifestations to retrieve infected devices for later disassembly and incineration or destruction of the manifestation on-site depending on its severity. All wiring without infection that surrounds SCP-XXXX instanced is to have their power disconnected and are to be severed. Severed wiring is to be repaired only when the SCP-XXXX instances have been removed. If necessary, all affected civilians should be administered Class-A amnestics and given a false explanation to avoid suspicion of anomalous activity. All infected devices and equipment are to be replaced at the earliest convenience.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a rare¹ phenomenon in which computing devices develop malignant growths composed of random entangled electrical wiring and electronic components within the device's interior. The original cause of SCP-XXXX appearances is currently unknown and seems to manifest at random. SCP-XXXX typically remains undetected until infected devices begin malfunctioning in absurd fashions that tends to leave them fundamentally inoperable.

SCP-XXXX has been shown to infect in a manner analogous to the spread of cancer within humans and other animal species, SCP-XXXX's wiring and electronic components connect to and corrupt the host device's essential components and continue to grow indefinitely throughout the device. SCP-XXXX is capable of spreading to other computing devices via direct wiring connections. Once an initial connection to a new device is made, new growths will develop.

Infected devices tend to function without significant disruption for a relatively short period of time, after which progressively more noticeable system faults become apparent, including random memory corruption and various calculation errors, eventually culminating in anomalous occurrences not typically associated with faulty computer hardware, including ones that may result in severe and potentially fatal mental or physical harm.

The anomalous occurrences following aforementioned system errors have manifested in a variety of different fashions that include but aren't limited to:

• Alteration of the devices physical properties
• Self-moving hostile components and wiring
• Spontaneous combustion
• Various insects and small rodents deriving from devices
• High pitched screeching sounds emitted from devices
• Release of toxic gases
• Appearances of unidentified entities on device screens
• High voltage electrocution upon contact
• Images of severely decomposed corpses on device screens

Manually shutting down or removing the power source of infected devices is proven to be ineffective and devices will remain powered on until SCP-XXXX has been eliminated. Removal of SCP-XXXX from devices is possible through means of physically cutting, pulling, or burning away the malignant growths and results in devices becoming completely deactivated and irreparable. Alternative methods of eliminating SCP-XXXX from devices are still being researched.

Addendum XXXX-1

SCP-XXXX was discovered on 10/15/2018 when numerous telephone calls to computer repair service companies were intercepted by MTF Mu-4 ("Debuggers") in Baker County, Georgia reporting anomalous behavior from the callers desktop computer. The calls were dismissed as pranks by all companies contacted before MTF Mu-4 was dispatched to the residence of the caller to verify the claims.

A Foundation van under the guise of a hardware repair company would arrive at 156
█████ ███ Dr. Upon arrival, 3 MTF Mu-4 agents equipped with electrical protection gear and hardware repair apparatus exit the van and knock on the door.

<BEGIN LOG>

Agent. F: “Hello sir, we’re from Superb Computing Protection and heard you had a severe issue?

Resident: “Great! Finally someone showed up! Yea it’s right this way.

The resident who is presumably the caller begins leading the agents to the room the SCP-XXXX instance is located.

Resident: “I’ve never seen anything like it man, I mean seriously this shit is crazy! My mouse is moving on its own, the screen is bugging out and flashing colors, and it is constantly making a loud beeping sound.”

They arrive in the room which seems to be an office. The computer seems to be emitting a constant loud beeping noise and the monitor is flashing colors rapidly. The mouse doesn’t seem to be moving on its own.

Agent. H: “When exactly did this start?”

Resident: “About a day ago, couldn’t get any of my work done. I’ve been having problems that have been getting worse for weeks though. It first started with it going slow as hell, then I kept getting random errors, then it gave me a weird message and began spazzing out! Craziest shit man.”

Agent. H: “And do you remember what that message said?”

Resident: “It was something like ‘fatal system error: WESEEYOU’. Then when I clicked Ok it kept repeating my name over and over again where the error code would be and it flooded out of that window and flooded my entire screen before it started doing this.”

The agents all look at each other and then back to the resident.

Agent. F: “We will get this all taken care of if you’ll just wait outside the room.”

Resident: “Sure thing, I just hope you can save my files because I had a lot of work saved on there.”

Agent. F: “We’ll see what we can salvage. It won’t be too long, we will call you when we are done.”

Resident: “Alright thanks, guys.”

The resident makes his way out of the room and to the living room. Agent. F, Agent. H, and Agent. L would make their way to the computer. Agent. L moves the mouse slightly before the mouse begins rapidly thrashing on the table on its own. The agents recoil.

Agent. L: “Oh fuck! What the hell did this guy download? Free RAM?”

Agent. F: “Not sure but we can’t access the problem by using the computer. We need to see what’s going on in the interior. And for fucks sake we need to turn off that loud ass beeping.”

Agent. F and Agent. L attempt to unplug the computer, struggling to get the plug free from the outlet even with both of them pulling. Eventually, the plug comes free but tangled green wiring comes out with it. A squealing sound is now heard from the computer and the mouse thrashes more furiously, slinging off the table and hitting Agent. H in the arm.

Agent. H: “What the hell!?“

Agent. L: “Are you alright H?”

Agent. H: “Yea I’m fine, just caught off guard. This is a mess. Let’s cut that fucking mouse off.”

Agent. F tends to the computer case after disconnecting it from the wall while Agent. L and Agent. H hold the mouse still while using wire cutters to sever it in two. The mouse continues to thrash for a while longer before going limp. The squealing increases in volume.

Agent. F: “You guys are gonna wanna see this.”

Agent. L and Agent. H turn their attention to Agent. F and look over at the computer that has successfully had its case removed only to reveal a horribly tangled amalgamation of wiring and computer parts that are not necessary in computers whatsoever.

Agent. L: “Where do we start? Obviously this is the source of the issue but where the hell did it even come from?”

Agent. H: “It might be in the walls, let’s see if we can cut the house's power and use a current detector.”

Agent. F: “Sounds good, L you are with me”

Agent. F and Agent. L go into the living room to see the resident sitting on their couch.

Agent. F: “We are going to cut the house's power momentarily, I hope you don’t mind.”

Resident: “Of course not, do whatever is necessary. The breaker panel is in the laundry room.”

Agent. F and Agent. L nod while making their way to the laundry room. They open the breaker panel and flip all of the switches to off before making their way back into the room with Agent. H. Agent. H uses an AC current detector on the now powerless house. The detector goes off on the device and in the surrounding walls. The detector goes off along most of the wall connected to the computer.

Agent. H: “Well it is worse than we thought.”

Agent. F: “Looks like we are going to be here for a while.”

The agents begin destroying the walls and attempt to remove the SCP-XXXX instance from the computer and the interior of the walls. The wiring and components seem to physically resist efforts of removal by entangling power tools, attempting to entangle the agents hands, and attempts at stabbing the agents are made with sharp components within the walls and device. Eventually every known trace of the SCP-XXXX instance have been forcefully removed. Five more sweeps of the house are preformed, the walls are completely repaired, and a replacement of the desktop computer is provided to the resident a few days after the incident. None of the computers old software or files could be salvaged.
