Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX currently has no viable containment methods, and poses a possible risk is unlikely to pose a risk to on-site personnel. Should any staff witness its appearance, site command must be immediately notified. Staff are not to attempt to harm or incapacitate SCP-XXXX. Any targets must be subjected to immediate and indefinite quarantine examination and release procedures detailed in document XXXX-ERP-00 [deprecated].

Description:
SCP-XXXX is a small object, approximately eighteen centimetres in diameter. Its outer structure is composed primarily of a steel and copper shell, and its inner structure is currently unknown. Affixed to its shell are eight mechanical legs resembling those of a spider.

Every two to five days SCP-XXXX enters what is henceforth referred to as the FLAW cycle, which consists of four stages:

• Formation- SCP-XXXX will appear in a seemingly random location, somewhere between five and sixty metres from where it last withdrew. To date, all formations have occurred at least twenty metres from any other anomalous objects or lifeforms.
• Leap- Should a human (henceforth known as the “target”) come within line of sight of SCP-XXXX, it will use its appendages to propel itself towards their head. The longest recorded leap was fourteen metres, on its seventeenth FLAW cycle.
• Affixation- SCP-XXXX will remain affixed to the target’s head, and press against their scalp. This lasts several seconds, during which the target feels no pain or discomfort.
• Withdrawal- SCP-XXXX will then release itself from the target and fall towards the floor, disappearing directly before impact. Its location at this point remains unknown until the next iteration of its cycle.

Targets are seemingly unaffected by this process, and no traces of physical intrusion or anomalous/reality disrupting affects have been detected. It is hypothesized that SCP-XXXX feeds off of radiation from the human body.

Addendum XXXX-01:

As of 16/12/2021, SCP-XXXX has been neutralized by order of Site Command. The SCP-XXXX research team has been dissolved.

02/05/2021	Medical reports for all quarantined individuals return clean. Quarantined staff’s requests to return to work denied by Site Director James ██████.
19/06/2021	SCP-XXXX Research laboratory severely damaged in raid of Site ███ Northwest wing from operatives of unknown affiliation [see document X3-R-62YR]. Most SCP-XXXX documentation remains unharmed. Laboratory repairs are swiftly completed.
29/07/2021	Termination request denied by Dr. Aspen, as SCP-XXXX has not shown any confirmed hostility.
18/08/2021	Fifty-sixth appearance. Target is Site Director James ██████, who is subsequently quarantined.
19/08/2021	Requests for return to work accepted by Site Director James ██████ due to clean medical reports on all quarantined targets.
02/09/2021	Sixty-fourth appearance. Target is Dr. Aspen. Under new containment procedures, he returns to work after clearance from two onsite doctors.
12/11/2021	Eighty-third appearance. Target is ████████. Only known occurrence of [REDACTED]
13/11/2021	Under direction of Site Director James ██████, four J5-X class infrared scanners are placed near the last withdrawal location and relocated after each FLAW cycle.
25/11/2021	Level three cyberattack on Site ███ [see document Y7-C-92JF]. Due to much of the attack originating from applications tied to Dr. Aspen’s accounts, he is indefinitely suspended for investigation and Researcher Flynn assumes his position as lead of SCP-XXXX research team.
07/12/2021	Investigation concludes Dr. Aspen was unaware of the breach, and his position is reinstated.
13/12/2021	Ninety-second appearance. Target is D-38851094, who was located near a scanner at the time. Scan data is sent to SCP-XXXX research team for analysis.
15/12/2021	Results are returned indicating [DATA EXPUNGED BY ORDER OF SITE COMMAND]
15/12/2021	Order for neutralization of SCP-XXXX issued.
16/12/2021	Ninety-third appearance. Target is Junior Researcher Barnes. Both SCP-XXXX and target are terminated by facility guard Lara Pauling using a 9mm service pistol.
16/12/2021	Remains of SCP-XXXX are incinerated. SCP-XXXX reclassified as neutralized. SCP-XXXX research team dissolved and reassigned.

I'm starting to get extremely frustrated with your inability to drop this subject. I know we have a directive, but this situation does not fall under its purview. I'm not going to put up with a blatant attack on the security and integrity of this site just to appease your desire to "Secure, Contain, Protect" any mysterious lump of metal that enters the building. You're absolutely right that I envy certain groups' ability to prevent issues like this before they occur, but despite what you seem to believe I fully understand that that's not the correct way to do things. This was an exception to fulfill my appointed duty to ensure the safety of you and everyone else in this facility, and if you can't accept it we're going to have to look into alternate pathways for your future at this site.
