Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Foundation analysts are to monitor hospital intake for reports of acute selective communication disorders regarding ostriches. If public awareness of SCP-XXXX associated narratives is detected, affected civilians are to be amnesticized and released.

The source of SCP-XXXX is to be contained within at Site-104 within a secure animal enclosure measuring 80 m by 50 m. The interior of the enclosure should contain a mixture of sand and grass, a pond or other water feature and a feeding trough appropriate for a single adult male ostrich (S. camelus), to be refilled twice daily. Any organic refuse discovered within the enclosure is to be removed and incinerated twice weekly. In the event that an adult male ostrich is seen on Site-104 outside of this enclosure, SCP-XXXX should be assumed to have breached containment.

All personnel assigned to SCP-XXXX must independently and accurately infer the contents of the enclosure prior to the assumption of their duties. To facilitate this requirement, the Senior Researcher assigned to SCP-XXXX shall conduct a brief tour of the enclosure for all newly assigned personnel, followed by a verbal assessment designed to confirm procedural compliance. Existing staff are encouraged to assist newly assigned personnel in arriving at the necessary inferences through the use of gesture and other visual prompts.

Personnel may consult Document SCP-XXXX-A for the measurements, detailed feeding/cleaning schedule and medical history of a strictly fictional adult male ostrich.

Description: SCP-XXXX is the designation given to an anomalous effect which prevents the communication of certain narratives which contain direct, definite reference to the source of SCP-XXXX. Indirect references (such as those made to the source of SCP-XXXX), indefinite references (such as those made to a non-specific adult male ostrich), references to other highly similar objects (such as those made to the specific fictional ostrich described in Document SCP-XXXX-A) and references to the anomalous effect itself may all be made freely without triggering SCP-XXXX. As a result, it is possible for personnel to make accurate inferences regarding the source of SCP-XXXX without the use of narrative.

SCP-XXXX has not been shown to be limited in range nor to weaken over time.

Recovery: MTF-[insert name here] was deployed to ████████████ zoo in ██████████ on 04/28/207 after several incidents of acute selective aphasia were reported by zoo patrons. Interviews with the staff of the zoo resulted in members of MTF-[insert name here] being directed to the ostrich exhibit by the head zookeeper. Out of the ostriches present, 11 were determined to exhibit no anomalous effects and were returned to the enclosure. A large animal transport container was requested and delivered to the recovery site. Once the area was determined to be free of further anomalies, class B amnestics were administered to affected staff and patrons and a cover story regarding a gas leak was disseminated.
