SCP-XXXX.jpg

Image Capture of Individual Instance of SCP-XXXX — Copy #479

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Special Access Designation: CODE SAPIEN MOBIUS GREEN

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: All Mobile Task Force members and Site Security personnel are prohibited from vocalizing the SCP-XXXX trigger phrase under any circumstances. All instances of SCP-XXXX Alpha Events are to be logged and all MTF on site are to report any MIA personnel after every engagement. Photographs of SCP-XXXX are to be reproduced at 6-hour intervals with the subsequent copy replacing the photographs in use.

Description: SCP-XXXX are two anomalous events that occur to Mobile Task Force units and Site Security personnel undergoing heavy combat operations. Specific circumstances must be met before an SCP-XXXX occurrence:

  1. The MTF unit must be facing a “Last Stand” scenario where extraction is no longer viable.
  2. Reinforcements are unavailable at present or cannot be deployed without further loss of life.
  3. The MTF unit’s numbers have been reduced by at least 50%.

When all requirements are met, the beleaguered MTF unit may utter the phrase "We are code █ Omega."1 to their superiors over the radio. This is the trigger phrase2. All attempts to expunge knowledge of the phrase from Foundation's MTFs have met with minimal success. It is now hypothesized that knowledge of the phrase and what it does are being anomalously spread.

Shortly after the trigger phrase is uttered, an SCP-XXXX Alpha Event will manifest in the form of a heavily armed group of anomalous humanoids materializing within 100 meters of the embattled MTF unit. These will most often materialize on foot, but will sometimes appear embarked upon outmoded military vehicles, depending on the severity of the situation. They will immediately initiate combat operations against whatever force or entity is threatening the MTF. Instances of SCP-XXXX during an event may vary in number from 1 to ████, and appear to possess spectral qualities; passing through walls, underbrush, and other obstacles without difficulty.

Individual instances of SCP-XXXX appear to be wearing tactical body armor in varying states of disrepair, full mask respirators with cracked or shattered visors, damaged helmets, and bear torn, antiquated patches reminiscent of Foundation MTF units. They will ignore all attempts at verbal or radio communication but seem to execute maneuvers that complement whatever tactics the MTF unit will employ. Instances of SCP-XXXX also do not appear to communicate with each other during these maneuvers, neither through vocalization nor hand signals as with conventional military units.

Though appearing to be armed with standard military-grade firearms and explosives, SCP-XXXX weapons will cause significantly more damage to both non-anomalous and anomalous entities than their standard counterparts, often capable of destroying even high level reality-bending entities. Euclid and Keter-class anomalous creatures that by their nature cannot be destroyed are merely rendered unconscious or stunned for several minutes. Individual instances of SCP-XXXX cannot be physically harmed except by anomalous means and will quickly de-materialize when heavily damaged. However, the same vanished instance another instance bearing similar or identical gear will appear a number of seconds later in approximately the same area, and will show no sign of any damage previously suffered in the engagement.

Instances of SCP-XXXX cannot be detected on either infrared and ultraviolet equipment, and appear to be blurry or out-of-focus when viewed through video recording devices. They also do not trigger motion sensors. All photographs taken of SCP-XXXX will invariably degrade at a notably accelerated rate, crumbling to nothing in less than 36 hours. Artistic representation yields conflicting results, as the artist will find themselves sketching or painting a member of the survivors rather than an instance of SCP-XXXX. Other methods of image reproduction are still under study.

Although no active radio signals have ever been detected originating from any instance of SCP-XXXX, faint cries of pain and barely discernible orders as if desperately shouted from a great distance can be heard on the unit radios of any MTF member undergoing an Alpha Event.

An SCP-XXXX Alpha Event will usually end when all immediate threats to the MTF unit have been neutralized. After which, the instances of SCP-XXXX will seem to evaporate into mist, leaving no discernible residue. It is at this point that an SCP-XXXX Bravo Event will occur. A tally of all surviving MTF members in the unit will invariably indicate that one of them is missing. The missing individual will usually be the most injured or eldest member of the unit. All members of the surviving MTF will always remember the individual as having “died years ago”, but will not recall the exact circumstances of the individual’s death. This anomalous effect seems to only partly affect non-MTF witnesses, who often confirm the presence of an extra survivor but will be unable to recall anything specific of the survivor, such as his or her features, name, age, or even gender.

Even when all members of an MTF within an Alpha Event are observed continuously through electronic and digital means, a two-second interruption in the feed will temporarily render the display in static, during which time the Bravo Event will take place. Visual and audio records of the engagement up until the Bravo Event will remain unchanged. However, when shown these logs, each surviving member will always indicate that it is another surviving member of the team that they are seeing. In situations where there is a lone survivor, they will strongly claim that they are merely talking and acting out situations with themselves, and will often suggest that they may need psychiatric treatment. Despite extensive area search and retrieval operations, neither the body nor any trace of the equipment of the missing personnel will be found. Subsequent manifestations of SCP-XXXX will include the missing member.

Only one communication event with an SCP-XXXX instance has been recorded. The same incident also led to the recovery of a cadaver (SCP-XXXX-1) by Foundation personnel.
