Item #: SCP-4689
Object Class: Safe Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4689 is to be kept within the confines of Sector 9-341 Sector 9-437, in its designated storage receptacle, referred to herein as SR-59. Sector 9-437 has by design, been constructed on a limited power grid- and therefore has been deemed suitable for the storage of SCP-4689. See Addendum 4869.B
It is imperative that SR-59 be secured to its shelving unit, and fastened with a lock- of which the key shall remain in exclusive custody of the acting Site Director. Under no circumstance, unless expressly cleared by the acting Site Director, shall SCP-4689 be removed from SR-59. If SCP-4689 is removed, it should only be for the express purpose of maintenance in Sector 9-437.
When relocated temporarily for this purpose, electrical power must be cut to each individual room, hallway or passageway that SCP-4689 will be traveling through. Power may be reinstated once SCP-4689 has been secured in its new temporary containment unit. The same process must be followed when transferring SCP-4689 back to SR-59.
Direct visual contact with SCP-4689 during these procedures is strictly prohibited.
Description: Upon visual inspection, SCP-4689 appears to be a 3-Way Horizontal Wall Outlet Adapter. Although no discernible damage has been noted from an outward inspection of its casing, it should be noted that SCP-4689 shows definitive signs of aging. Viewing SCP-4689 by remote means, whether through video or photography, does not appear to change any of its physical features.
Personnel who view SCP-4689 openly will have different experiences and will give different accounts dependent on the whether or not power is being supplied directly to room in which SCP-4689 is currently located. Personnel who make visual contact with SCP-4689, with no nearby power sources within the confines of their current location, will show no side effects from their exposure
Personnel, from this point forward referred to as SCP-4689-1, who view SCP-4689 directly within the confines of a location with immediate power supply- will suffer near instantaneous effect. SCP-4689-1 will within seconds, become compelled to insert SCP-4689 into the nearest power source. The amount of distance from the nearest power source required to cause this compulsion to occur, at present time seems variable. See Addendum 4869.A
The effects of SCP-4689 seem to be directly linked to the visual connection made with it. Without direct line of sight to SCP-4689, SCP-4689-1 will within moments be released from the compulsions induced by sight. Any attempt to cause the effects through other sensory means, through touch or simply by being in the same room as SCP-4689, has shown inconclusive. As such- SCP-4689 should be stored in a standard opaque containment unit to prevent visual contact.
If and when SCP-4689 does make contact with a power grid, it slowly drains the electrical current by unknown means- creating a rolling blackout that expands from its point of origin. It is currently unclear what its maximum range of effect is, but it has been documented to be able to cause blackouts at a minimum radius of 20.6 km. It is the research teams hypothesis that SCP-4689 is an energy leech- that left to feed, could very well cause worldwide calamity.
Acquisition: On May 17th, 19██, the Foundation received reports of a massive blackout across Southern Florida. Field agents were dispatched across the region of impact, and soon found SCP-4689 at the center of the incident. The damages caused by SCP-4689, outside of human impact, were immense. The shorting of a number of electrical towers directly caused brush fires that swept through the Everglades.
The Foundation made sure that these fires were publicly deemed as the culprit for the mayhem.
Addendum 4869.A: During routine maintenance, it was discovered that an open electrical outlet is not necessary to for SCP-4689-1 to be affected by SCP-4689's compulsory effects. SCP-4689-1 will, if wiring is within a yet undetermined radius around SCP-4689, attempt to integrate SCP-4689 directly with the power supply. As such, plans are being made to relocate SCP-4689 to a more suitable storage location. See Transcript 4869.A |Attached|
Addendum 4869.B: Due to the incident in Sector 9-341, regarding Site Director Sasha █████
and Containment Specialist Richard █████ in the scheduled maintenance of SCP-4689's current storage receptacle- SCP-4689 will be transferred to and will until further notice, reside in Sector 9-437. This containment unit was designed to function without the use of a power grid, and as such has been deemed a suitable storage facility for SCP-4689 given recent developments. Caution should still be taken however, as nearby wings- by necessity, do have electrical power. Please follow the updated Special Containment Procedures for future maintenance.
Addendum 4869.C: Given recent complications housing SCP-4689's , and the increased provisions needed to maintain proper containment for SCP-4689, the Object Class for SCP-4689 has been raised from Safe to Euclid.

Transcribed: [Site Director (SD) Sasha █████, Containment Specialist (CS) Richard █████]
Foreword: This is the transcript record from Sector 9-341, during the incident with
SCP-4689<Begin Log>
CS Richard can be seen collapsed against a wall on the ground. He appears distressed and wide eyed. In his hand is SCP-4689, which he is holding in a clenched fist, while simultaneously attempting break through the concrete wall. His hand is bloodied, and two or more fingers have been broken.
CS Richard: unintelligible sounds
SD Sasha: [Speaking to a researcher outside of the room] How long has he been like this?
Researcher: About 13 minutes, Ma'am. He hasn't been responding to any outside stimuli, and becomes aggressive when we attempt to approach.
SD Sasha: And he's holding onto it? SCP-4689, I mean?
SD Sasha looks to CS Richard's hand, and her shoulders slump forward near immediately. She begins moving forward with an outstretched hand.
CS Richard begins emitting low growling sounds, and foam can be seen from the corner of his mouth. SD Sasha no longer seems to be aware of current surroundings or sounds.
Researcher: Ma'am. Ma'am! [Now on radio] We need assistance in Sector 9-341, Site Director is compromised, I need Security Officers immediately-
<End Log>
Closing Statement: [Small summary and passage on what transpired afterward]
SD Sasha and CS Richards can be seen tearing at each other for control over SCP-4689. CS Richards, however, quickly overpowers the Site Director and begins to bludgeon her with SCP-4689. Once SD Sasha is no longer moving, CS Richard returns to the wall and resumes attempting to penetrate the concrete. This continues until Security Officers arrive with Amnestic, and manage to remove CS Richards from the area- leaving SCP-4689 behind. SCP-4689 was recovered within 3 hours, after closing off power to the area.
||Direct Notation From Sector 9 Protocol Auditor Alexander █████||:This should be taken as a prime example to all future Site Directors, of why it is imperative that regardless of how dire a situation is regarding an asset- your role in the foundation is a purely supervisory one. You should only ever interact with an asset if all other options have been exhausted. Otherwise, you risk weakening the Foundation unnecessarily.
