SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: [Containment consists of cordoning off the surrounding area with a chain-link fence. Armed personnel are to be discreetly posted around and within the perimeter, with regular patrols scheduled. Personnel alternating between posing as local sheriff deputies and road construction crews are to be stationed at both ends of the road that runs alongside the motel forming a barricade, also with regular patrols up and down the road with the cover. Any and all attempted breaches and confirmed breaches are to be logged.]

Description: [SCP-XXXX is a 1.5 hectare by 1 hectare square motel, located 6 miles west of [DATA EXPUNGED] in the Mojave Desert. The motel is a white, one story structure with a single entrance and a single fire exit, and a 1 hectare parking lot in front. There is a slowly rotating white neon sign in the center of the parking lot that reads Shifting Sands Motel, Always a Vacancy in red lettering that lights up after sundown, framed by a red illustration of a serpentine dragon. The building, parking lot, and sign all appear freshly constructed, with no sign of any wear or tear despite the years of its monitoring.

The inside of SCP-XXXX is brightly lit by overhead lights. Just inside the entrance there is a reception desk, with a modern computer on it. The computer screen always shows a game of solitaire. There is a door behind the reception desk that reads Staff Only in black letters, that so far has yet to be successfully opened. Halls and number of rooms inside SCP-XXXX are much larger than the outside. These halls include seemingly endless, maze-like halls, spiraling halls, stairs and elevators to different floors, and dead ends where, moments before, there had been an open hall. The layout of the halls appear to fluctuate constantly, making mapping impossible.

The room interiors themselves are generic in appearance. A single queen-sized bed with a green and yellow floral comforter, grey carpet. The walls are white and bare. There is a single flat-screen television on a dresser opposite the bed, the channels all showing static. The bathrooms are simple, white walls with white tiles, a toilet, a bathtub, a sink, and a wall-sized mirror. The rooms themselves seem to randomly be in different realities, as viewed from the windows in the rooms. In addition to the surrounding desert, there have also been recorded accounts of different worlds. These include a world with a blue sun in a green sky, the window looking out onto a bubbling swamp, with large creatures seen swimming in the water; a densely populated city; a cavern sparkling with large yellow gems with an unidentified creature moving further in the cave; the bottom of an ocean with bioluminescent aquatic life-forms drawn to the lights of the room; a frozen tundra with a tribe of large, insect-like humanoids; a world with a red sky and a forest outside of the windows with a perpetual eclipse, in which the trees move when not being observed; and a barren white landscape with a perpetual starry night sky, with a primitive tribe of unknown bat-like life forms. The creatures of this last world have been recorded on more than one occasion of having broken through the window to drag the occupants of the room out into the darkness. They have been observed to eat the occupants, while other times appear to use them as an offering to a large black tentacled entity floating in the night sky. It is unknown if this has happened with other rooms looking out onto other worlds.

There are humanoid entities within the anomaly referred to as the motel staff. Any identifying features about them, other than their uniforms, cannot be recalled by individuals who have observed them. The motel staff consist of two front desk clerks, a regional manager, housekeepers, and at least two security staff. The motel staff appear to be non-hostile and even helpful in assisting with individuals who have been designated guests of the motel. Those that are not designated guests or who have had the designation removed are asked to leave and, if they do not leave within five minutes, are then escorted out by security. Any and all questions about the owners of the motel are evaded by the staff, who either are choosing not to answer or simply do not know very much about them.

The anomaly draws in unsuspecting individuals, many of whom are caught by surprise by the patrols and easily turned away. Rarely, some civilians, in small numbers and in groups, manage to bypass one or more of the obstacles placed by the Foundation, sometimes without being noticed by on-site personnel. When apprehended before they manage to check in and questioned, all civilians have no memory of noticing any fencing or personnel. They simply knew of a small and convenient roadside motel that they had decided to stay the night in. On even rarer occasions, members of on-site personnel attempt to enter the anomaly and check in. When questioned, the staff members remember forgetting their mission, thinking that they were at the motel for the purpose of checking in. See the Incident Log and the Breach Log for more detailed information regarding those that attempted, both those that failed and succeeded, to check in.

Those who enter the motel sometimes become lost or disoriented. On rare occasions, there have been reports of an event in the halls that involved a blinding light followed by darkness. Those that entered the anomaly that experienced this event developed anomalous properties/abilities. At present, there are seven individuals, and one canine, who have been altered to have anomalous properties. The properties and those who receive them all appear random. However the little information collected from the motel staff indicate that the individuals in question were each selected by the "owners" to be changed.]

Addendum: [The following is a list of individuals recovered from the anomaly that obtained anomalous properties.

Jason Bryant, July 4, 1996 - Subject has blue blood, with no apparent ill effects as a result. The tested blood itself yields no known anomalous properties, aside from the color.

Tanya Lynne, December 11, 1998 - Subject's hair has become a writhing mass of bright, multi-colored snakes that seem to move and act independently of the subject's control.

Dr. Jesse Rodriguez (Research Staff Member, Level 2 Clearance), January 8, 2000 - Subject has grown a second set of fully functional arms. The subject's body and organs appear to have modified accordingly.

Frederick Cho, July 19, 2005 - Subject was born with mild brain damage resulting in decreased mental capacity. Medical examination has revealed that the subject's brain damage has been healed, increasing his mental capacity to near-genius levels.

Jennifer Amari (On-Site Security, Level 2 Clearance), September 3, 2007 - Anomalous property
Cassandra Arquette, April 22, 2010 - Despite being gone for 6 years, subject still has the physical appearance of a 12-year-old girl. No other anomalous property has been observed since subject's recovery. Subject appears to be aging normally.

Scruffles Arquette (family canine, breed: rottweiler), April 22, 2010 - After extensive testing, subject appears to possess a slightly higher intellect than that of other rottweilers, and most other breeds of dog. Subject is capable of solving rudimentary puzzles and has demonstrated understanding of over 300 English words.

Nico Parsons (D-Class Personnel), - Can affect other beings by playing music. The effects seem to mostly be emotion-based, with one documented instance of subject's music speeding up the healing process for an injury.

It is currently unclear what the criteria is for an individual to be selected by the "owners".]
