Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in storage indefinitely at the Site-██ artifact vault. The timepiece should also at all times be stored in a soundproof casket with the dimensions fifty (50) x fifty (50) x fifty (50). The vault shall also at all times be monitored by cameras and be guarded by laser tripwires. Seismic monitoring is also in place to detect possible tunneling to retrieve the artifact. Guards at the facility will work in shifts around the clock to patroll the perimeters and two (2) guards shall at all times be stationed outside the vault doors.
Access to the casket and the timepiece is strictly forbidden in all cases and any attempts by personell to access or interact with it will be stricly punished and up for immediate termination.
Description: SCP-XXXX is to the naked eye a regular pocket watch of considerable age. The glass at the front is heavily scratched and the metal casing is dented in several places. Winding up the watch reveals that it is still functional and inspection of the parts inside after disassembling shows that it is in good working condition. No makers mark can be found anywhere on the timepiece but it’s estimated to be from the late 19th century.
The timepiece was retrieved by foundation operatives on ██/██/19██ in ███████, Canada from a deranged old man. Several days of interegation revealed that when the phrase [DATA EXPUNGED] was uttered in the timepiece’s presence, the next █ seconds would be erased from time. Further testing of the artifact reveals that every time the phrase is uttered the time erased is increased slightly.
An experiment with the timepiece, a high speed camera and a handgun shows the effects of the artifact in action. The gun is fired just before the phrase is uttered completely and the camera shows the bullet disappearing only to reappear further along in the trajectory. Test subjects also have no memory of what happened in the erased time
Additional Notes: No practical use that outweights the cost can be thought of and therefore the timepiece has to be kept safe from misuse at all time.
