SCP-5000 during retrieval
Item #: SCP-5000
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5000 is to be kept in a rebar-enforced concrete cell of at least 5 meters cubed with walls, floor, and ceiling being at least 1 meter thick. The door to SCP-5000’s cell is to be a 5cm thick steel door with level 2 level 4 security clearance required for entry.
Note: Upon request of SCP-5000’s head researcher, Dr. Langkönig, SCP-5000 is not to be stored within a site that uses or contains Scranton Reality Anchors (SRAs). Effective ██/██/2018.
Note: By order of the 05 Council, no further testing may be done with SCP-5000 and access to SCP-5000’s chamber now requires level 4 clearance. Additionally, two security personnel must guard the cell’s entrance at all times. Effective ██/██/2019
Description: SCP-5000 is a white, oblong structure of unknown origin that superficially resembles the egg of gallus domesticus (common chicken). SCP-5000 measures 205 centimeters tall with a circumference of 478 centimeters at its widest point. Despite its oblong shape SCP-5000 has always been observed in an upright position and no force has been capable of shifting it to lay in any other position.
The perceived weight of SCP-5000 is light for its size as a single human can easily pick it up and move it with a typical hand truck. Despite its perceived lightness SCP-5000’s true weight cannot be accurately measured with any scale as a different number is displayed each time SCP-5000 is placed upon a scale. The measured weight has been recorded as low as 3 grams and as high as 16 tonnes. Regardless the measured weight, SCP-5000’s perceived weight remains the same.
SCP-5000’s surface is able to remain impossibly clean. Dirt, dust, and residue have never been observed on the surface of SCP-5000, even during retrieval. Markers, pens, pencils, paints, and any other marking utensils are unable to write on the surface of SCP-5000 and microscopic observation has revealed no signs of any micro-organisms existing on SCP-5000’s surface.
SCP-5000 seems to be entirely indestructible, withstanding damage from all tested sources, both normal and anomalous. The contents within the shell of SCP-5000 remains unknown as all tests performed on SCP-5000 in order to perceive the inside have been inconclusive.
The most notable effect of SCP-5000 is its effect on humans upon physical contact. In all instances subjects enter a state of what seems to be REM sleep immediately upon physical contact with SCP-5000. During this state the subject is unresponsive to any stimulus and takes on some of the properties of SCP-5000. The subject seems to be just as indestructible as SCP-5000 during this state and cannot be moved from his/her current position by any means except by their own will. This state lasts between 5 and 10 seconds and ends with the subject pulling themselves away from SCP-5000 as though they had been frightened by it. All subjects who touch SCP-5000 report to experience a similar event while in the REM state. See Addendum 5000.1.
Retrieval: SCP-5000 was retrieved from a remote village in Uganda on ██/██/2017. The Foundation was notified of its existence when pictures of SCP-5000 posted by Christian missionaries went viral on social media claiming to have found a dinosaur egg in possession of some of the village's members. Foundation agents were sent to investigate and found SCP-5000 in the possession of a small secluded Banyarwanda tribe. The tribe claimed to have been protecting and worshiping SCP-5000 for generations, calling it a “world egg” and that it gave them "infinite dreams" and “eyes on the inside.” The tribe and missionaries were given class C amnestics and the Department of External Affairs spread a cover up story debunking the dinosaur egg picture as a hoax.
Addendum 5000.1: Post-test Interview
Interviewed: D class D-14314
Interviewing: Dr. Langkönig
Foreward: This interview was conducted immediately after D-14314’s interaction with SCP-5000.
Begin Log
Dr. Langkönig: Good morning, 14314. How are you feeling today?
D-14314: Hm? Oh, I’m alright, thanks for asking. A bit jumpy after that shit though.
Dr. Langkönig: Right, can you describe to me your experience after you made physical contact with the surface of the object?
D-14341: It was weird. As soon as I touched it – it uh… felt like I was and dreaming, but I didn’t even have to fall asleep to do it. But, I was dreaming of right where I was, touching the egg. Like – some seamless transition shit. And not like daydreaming or nothing – this was some deep… full sensory shi –
Dr. Langkönig: How did you know you were specifically dreaming?
D-14314: I dont know, man. I’ve dreamt before – I know what it feels like.
Dr. Langkönig: Alright. So, what happened next?
D-14314: I felt the egg… move under my hands. And then the top of the shell began to cave in until the whole thing was just in pieces on the ground. And… what was left was like – a dark-ish expanse…
Dr. Langkönig: Continue, please.
D-14314: Well, out of the darkness this big gross eye opened up. Scared the shit out of me at first, but it seemed not fully… awake, not really looking anywhere. Then it went all alert and looked right at me and when it did – ahhh everything went dark and… I’ve never been in a coma but… I imagine that’s what it feels like. I was so freaked I woke up… pulling back from the egg… I’m so glad I woke up.
Dr. Langkönig: Right, anything else significant?
D-14314: Not really, that’s pretty much it. Uh, am I gonna have to mess with that thing again?
Dr. Langkönig: Not sure yet but, thank you for your cooperation so far, D-14314.
D-14314: Hey man, I’ve got a name, it’s ██████.
Dr. Langkönig: Again, D-14314, Thank you for your cooperation.

Addendum 5000.2: Site-Wide Containment Breach Report
The following is a report written by Dr. Langkönig detailing the events of an incident which occurred when site ██ suffered a critical containment breach.
Dr. Langkönig
██/██/2018
I was personally testing on SCP-5000 when we the alert went out. When I came out of an extended session of contact with SCP-5000 the two researchers who had been supervising me, Dr. Roberts and researcher Walker, informed me that multiple reality bending keter class entities had breached the site’s containment. By that time emergency evacuation had been called, as I was told the site’s emergency reality anchors had failed to activate and the on-site nuke prepared for detonation if they could not be repaired and activated soon. I bid the researchers to go on and evacuate, as I was sure even if the on-site warhead had been detonated that the state I would be in while in contact with SCP-5000 would keep me safe. So, I touched SCP-5000 and waited in the REM state. The experience went as normal for a while, but I was eventually shaken by a terrible sort of disturbance while in the state. There was an intense white mental pain of sorts and I began perceiving what may have been surroundings with unfamiliar senses. The experience was so intense and frightening that I was unable to maintain my state of connection with SCP-5000. Upon waking I noticed that SCP-5000 was quivering rapidly and cracks were forming around the top of its surface. I learned from the site-wide broadcast that the nuke had been deactivated, as the site’s reality anchors had finally come online. I rushed to the control room only to learn that the reality bending entities that escaped had been re-contained and that they were powering the anchors down soon. I’m going to request a site transfer for SCP-5000, as it seems Scranton Reality Anchors interact with SCP-5000 negatively.
Note: During the time that site ██'s SRAs were active all other foundation containment sites reported varying degrees of abnormal behavior and/or properties of observed SCPs, with ██ sites having suffered containment breaches as a result. The abnormalities were all reported to have stabilized at varying times up to three hours after site ██ powered down it's SRAs.
Addendum 5000.3: Brooding Stasis Incident
On ██/██/2019 the 05 Council ordered the removal of Dr. Langkönig from his position as SCP-5000’s head researcher, promoted Dr. Roberts to head researcher, and transferred Dr. Langkönig to site — for re-assignment. Immediately upon receiving the order, Dr. Langkönig entered SCP-5000’s containment chamber and touched SCP-5000, entering the REM state. This state has not yet been broken and no means of separating Dr. Langkönig with SCP-5000 have been found. A hastily written note in pen of the back of a report log was found on the floor of SCP-5000’s containment cell. The following is a transcription of said note.
I know my actions go against orders but know this; to the end I will fulfill my duty. For this world I will Secure, Contain, Protect.
Dr. Wilhelm Langkönig
As a result of this incident the security clearance for access to SCP-5000's containment cell has been raised to level 4.
Addendum 5000.4: Dr. Langkönig’s Personal Journal
Note: The following is a transcription of a journal found within Dr. Langkönig’s desk by researcher Walker shortly after the Brooding Stasis incident.
██/██/2017: I’m getting a bit frustrated here and I need to vent my concerns somewhere. We’ve been doing tests on the REM state with D class for months now and we haven’t learned anything new since the first test. Something tells me there is much more to the REM state than we’ve learned do far. I don’t think we will be able to learn much more from D class. We need a more scientific mind to directly analyze the experience. So far none of the D class that had interacted with SCP-5000 have reported any negative effects after interaction. I’m going to request myself for testing to the 05 and see if I can get approval.
██/██/2018: The 05 Council has approved of my request for self-experimentation, although I could tell by their connotation that they were wary of the idea and they requested reports on my experiments monthly. Since receiving the approval I’ve already made some serious progress in only a few tests. I experienced the same sequence described by the D class. The shell crumbling, the dark void left behind, and the eye opening from within the void. Now that I’ve seen it for myself, I noticed that the eye is unlike any I’ve ever seen before or found in research since. It seemed to be lidless somehow despite it opening and would shift between what seemed like various complex lens configurations. The whole structure of it is so bizarre that I have some doubts as to whether it even is an eye. By my third session I was able to extend the time spent in the dream state past the typical end time of previous sessions. The feeling of nothing that came after the eye opened became bearable and while my own perception of time was rather askew, my supervising researchers informed me I had been in the state for 19 minutes.
██/██/2018: The darkness, the nothing is no longer just bearable but familiar. My researchers inform me that my sessions last about 2 to 3 hours on average. I try to do at least one session a day if I can help it. My paperwork has been piling up as a result, though. I still sleep normally on most days, but I wonder if I even need to. I technically have nighttime access to SCP-5000 so maybe I’ll try seeing how good of a substitute for sleep it can be.
██/██/2018: The nothing that I’ve been experiencing is finally becoming something. I’m not sure exactly how, but I believe I am beginning to develop certain degrees of perception. Ones beyond the five senses. Around me I have this sort of blind sight. I think I am perceiving a sort of terrain. I can feel myself move. I’m not sure where the ground ends and the space around me begins. My new senses are still fuzzy. It took me this long to even open these eyes. How long until I can focus them?
██/██/2018: I focused. Everything is so clear now. I’ve also managed to activate my natural senses. All this, however, was not entirely of my own doing. There was a site-wide breach. I stayed in SCP-5000 rather than evacuating. While in the state an intense white electricity coursed through my mind. It felt quite terrible, but I bared it out of fear that the on-site nuke had been detonated, and my body was somehow being hurt in the waking world. The white cracked and flooding from the darkness my natural senses flooded into me and my eyes opened on the inside. In an instant I could see my surroundings, with my old eyes and the new ones. The air was thick and hard to see through, but I could feel through it to a certain distance. The ground appeared to be fluid, but I stood upon it with ease. The first thing I noticed was a mass of quivering movement behind me. I approached it but moving around felt a bit like moving through syrup. What I saw was what appeared to be a massive creature of some sorts with dark oily skin. It seemed to be agitated, its skin pulsating, and I noticed a large familiar eye-like structure cracking open and closing back liking it was waking from a slumber. I could not see past its skin, but I could feel it. Upon focusing and peering inside I felt an overwhelming feeling of waking and familiarity. I felt galaxies. I felt earth. I felt physics. I felt chemistry. I felt ███ ██████. I felt the foundation. I felt ███ ███ ██████ I felt the SCP’s. I felt site ██. I felt the Scranton Reality Anchors and their radiation, a terrible, grating disruption. I felt SCP-5000, and myself attached to it. All these things I felt, and they quivered along with the creature they were in. I did not entirely understand the situation, and I still don’t, but at the time I knew I had to turn off the reality anchors. Once out of the state, I saw SCP-5000 quivering as the creature did, and cracks were forming at the top. I left SCP-5000 and found the site's anchor engineers who were already beginning to powering down the anchors. Upon returning to SCP-5000 and connecting with it I found the creature calm and nearly motionless. I soon after realized I would have to write a report and convince the 05 to move SCP-5000 to a site without reality anchors. I haven’t really been reporting any of my findings to the 05 since I started my own experimentation, and I fear if I come totally clean now that they will almost certainly demote me or transfer me, and I can’t allow either of those things to happen. I’ve been working on this SCP for almost a year now and I’m so close to the truth. No one else can do it. I will have to finagle the report to not cause question.
██/██/2018: Since obtaining my newfound perceptions I have encountered much in this world. The terrain warps in impossible ways, sometimes connecting to itself in a sort of cylinder, cutting off the sky in some areas. The sky itself is dark, giving no light itself. Still I am able to see as everything seems to somehow illuminate itself. My movement is far quicker than before. By feeling the flow of energy around me I can find new quicker ways to move, making travel quite easy at times depending on the flow. Creatures are not abundant, but present. Occasionally something will quickly pass by, swimming on the air or flying through the ground. There are some slower and even stationary creatures, typically them being much larger than myself, and I even found what seems to be another being like the one I first found. This one seemed to be awake, its eyes following the energy waves that course through this world. Upon approaching it would look at me, but otherwise completely ignore me. In fact, no creature I’ve encountered thus far has even so much as acknowledged me, save avoiding me in movement and gazing upon me when I'm near. Unlike the first being, I was unable to feel the inside of this one, or maybe I could and there was just nothing there. Despite traveling what seems great distances I am always able to find my way back to the sleeping entity by focusing on its familiar energy which somehow flows through everything. Also, upon entering the state with SCP-5000 I always begin in the same stop next to the sleeping being. Additionally, upon self-inspection and experimentation, it seems my clothes, which are always the same as the ones I wear in the waking world, and my body are susceptible to damage, but I can mitigate and even heal damage by manipulating the flow around parts of my body as well as regenerate the torn clothes. Pain feels about the same and enough of it can shake me from my connection with SCP-5000, although it seems that the more I experience pain the more I can tolerate without breaking away. I have come to the conclusion that somehow our entire universe is liked to this sleeping entity’s mind. I don’t know to what extent, but I’m certain our world would see drastic change or cease to exist should this being wake. I have to learn more and tone my form in order to ensure nothing disturbs it.
██/██/2018: I found people. During one of my exploitative travels I felt a faint energy of familiarity and followed it a short distance to find two human beings like myself. They were wearing plain clothes and were already facing me as I approached, as though they knew I was coming. It is likely their senses are similar to mine. I should have been more cautious looking back but my desire to learn about them blinded me. They said that they were surprised to see a face they did not know and asked me how I "tapped into the dream without guidance." My confusion must have been evident because they immediately told me that I had found a conduit and that I needed to take them to it. I saw one of them looking at the foundation symbol on my lab coat and immediately withdrew from SCP-5000 as I did not know what to do. I noticed researchers supervising me at the time could tell I was flustered. Dr. Roberts has been asking me a lot of questions lately, and I can tell she does not believe my hollow answers. I fear she may report me to the 05 and in the event that she does I may have to hide within SCP-5000 for a long time. Now that I know there are people looking for the being it is even more dire that I continue my work.
Note: The following is a response issued by head researcher Dr. Roberts following the recovery of the journal.
Dr. Langkönig’s actions have bet a major setback for the foundation regarding SCP-5000. Withholding information from fellow researchers and the rest of the foundation only wastes the foundation's well of resources. His perceived ideas of vigilante containment go against his many years as reasonable foundation member and SCP-5000 may be to blame. Imagine the potential knowledge of SCP-5000 the foundation would have had he shared his findings rather than hide them away for nearly a whole year. Piecing together the information from his journal has only angered me at our lack of progress. Should any staff ever sympathize with a cause similar to Dr. Langkönig’s then one should remember that the foundation is a system brought about by years of experience in anomaly containment. The system works. Adhere to it.
Dr. Roberts
Addendum 5000.5: Attack on Site ██
On ██/██/2020 a group of well-armed assailants assaulted and breached the security perimeter surrounding site ██. The assault consisted of ██ assailants escorting a large military style covered-bed truck which was driven up to the housing walls of site ██ under cover of heavy gunfire. Site security eliminated the assailants escorting the truck and upon entering the truck bed found two more assailants attempting to operate a large mechanical structure that had a person partially embedded within the machinery at the waist. The two assailants were restrained but the machine began to power up to power up. Security fired upon the subject attached to the machine, but the bullets bounced off the subject. Security then fired upon the machine itself, which soon began to power down and cease function. The attached subject then died. Upon inspection of the machine, researchers determined the machine was some sort of makeshift reality anchor. Much of the design had been modified, but the core of the design strongly resembled Scranton Reality Anchors. The subject attached to the reality anchor is believed to have been a reality bender. The two assailants that were captured were incarcerated and interrogated.
Note: The following is a log of the only successful interrogation session with said assailants conducted the day after the assault.
Interviewed: Unnamed Assailant (marked as UA)
Interviewing: Dr. Roberts and researcher Walker
Forward: Of the two assailants captured only one would speak at all and he would only ask for a “researcher of the conduit.” Dr. Roberts then volunteered to conduct the interview.
Begin Log
Dr. Roberts: Morning, Mister uh… Can I get a name for reference?
UA: Are you a researcher of the conduit?
Dr. Roberts: We call it SCP-5000. Yes, I’m actually the head researcher. Is SCP-5000 your reason for attacking the foundation? Why do you call it a conduit?
UA: You are protectors. Your cause and actions are just. But this is not something to protect. It is something to open. Do not let its form fool you. Humanity needs what it inside.
Dr. Roberts: How did you learn how to make reality anchors?
UA: You can see many things with eyes on the inside.
Researcher Walker: You mean you have a spy in our foundation?
UA: You have some eyes too, but they have been open for a long time and will not close.
Researcher Walker: Dr. Lang-
Dr. Roberts (to researcher Walker): Hey! What are yo-
UA: He has been battling us for years now. We would be far more prepared if not for him.
Dr. Roberts: We? The group you attacked us with?
UA: Yes. You should know our names. We are The Unwakers. I am an Oviraptor. You will likely be learning more about us soon.
Dr. Roberts: Where have you been battling the doctor?
UA: Why ask that? You know the answer. You could also use the conduit for yourself and see.
Dr. Roberts: You seem to already know so much about SCP-5000. How is that? Again, Why do you call it a conduit?
UA: It’s no use talking about it. Our words are not meant for it. It’s better I show you. Next time you dream give ███ ██████ █████ some thought and we may find you there and help you to open your eyes.
Dr. Roberts: Alright we’re done here. Security.End Log
The morning following the interview, researcher Walker failed to report for duty on time and soon after his body was found dead upon his bed in his quarters. His body was filled and bloated with dark unidentified eyes that spilled from every orifice. His remains were incinerated, and Dr. Roberts ordered the termination of the two incarcerated assailants. A committee is to be selected by the 05 Council to reassess SCP-5000’s Safe designation and to determine future proceedings regarding SCP-5000.
