Item #: SCP-5848

Object Class: Ticonderoga

Special Containment Procedure: SCP-5848-1 is to be kept in a locked room at Site-██. Site-██ should never be occupied by more than 3 persons at any given time. Personell not directly studying SCP-5848-1 should remain at least 50 feet from the room in which it resides at all times.

Description: SCP-5848-1 is a box of an unknown material that resembles pine wood. Its base is approximately 10.45x4.68 inches, and it has a height of approximately 2.32 inches. There are two hinges on the top of the box but no lid is attached to them. There is a keyhole on one of its sides that does not appear to have any locking mechanism, the inside of the box can be seen through the keyhole. The pinelike material that makes up SCP-5848-1 appears to be indesctructible. Dr. S██████ exposed the box to over 22 tons of force using a hydraulic press, the box was unaffected. Dr. S██████ also exposed the box to near 2300° Celsius using a SCP-foundation model 11.2 testing chamber, the box was again unaffected.

SCP-5848-2 is a key of a copper like material. The key is approximately 3.1 inches long, has 4 bittings of varying heights. It fits perfectly in the keyhole on the side of SCP-5848-1. After being exposed to the same tests as SCP-5848-1 Dr. S██████ concluded that the key is similarly indestructble.

SCP-5848-1 does not behave any differently than a normal box of similar size. SCP-5848-2 however is not affected by gravity or magnetism, and is constantly drawn to SCP-5848-1, specifically the keyhole. The speed and force at which the key is drawn towards the box varies greatly. From as slowly as 2 inches per hour to the fastest speed being recorded at 156 miles per hour. It has been stopped in its tracks by Dr. S██████ simply holding the key, and has at times managed to pierce through titanium containers to get to the keyhole. During incident 31█-█-█ On August ██st 20██, agent O█████ was injured when tasked with keeping the key away from the box. It pierced their abdomen at a high velocity. Agent O█████ survived the incident and after their recovery, requested a transfer to a less demanding position, their request was approved.

Upon fully entering the keyhole of SCP-5848-1, SCP-5848-2 disappears to an unknown location. What determines the distance to the new location is not fully understood, but Dr. S██████ has hypothesised that it can be explained using a Fibonacci sequence. On February ██ 20██ Dr. S██████ believes the key appeared approximately 4181 miles from the box. Then the next time the key disappeared, on April ██ 20██, Dr. S██████ believes the the key appeared approximately 6765 miles from the box. If his hypothesis is correct it should have reappeared 10946 miles from the box when it disappeared on July ██ 20██. However, it should be stated that it has been 1█ years since the keys last disappearence and though a series of thourogh searches have been conducted since then, the key remains out of SCP-Foundation hands. Dr. S██████ believes it is underground somewhere, and raised concerns in their last report before retiring that "If the speed and force of SCP-5848-2 exceeds those it reached in incident 31█-█-█ upon returning to SCP-5848-1, it could destroy thousands of dollars worth of SCP-Foundation property or kill someone."
