Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: All instances of SCP-XXXX-1 discovered outside Foundation custody are to be safely moved to Site 78: if transfer is not an option, the instance must be destroyed. Due to the nature of SCP-XXXX-1, defacement or erasing of should prove effective in most circumstances. If an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 is to be found in a location of continuous human habitation (e.g. school, house, workplace,) the location must be quarantined and extensively searched for instances of SCP-XXXX by an MTF specialized in dealing with memetic and infohazard threats. If Foundation personnel discover anyone infected with stage 4 of SCP-XXXX, they are to be brought into foundation custody for questioning immediately.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a self-propagating infohazard virus that infects humans in a way similar to most bloodborne illnesses. SCP-XXXX has a 100% infection rate when an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 comes into direct contact with an open wound, mucous membrane, or orifice and a 15% infection rate resulting from skin-to-skin contact.

SCP-XXXX after infecting a host will enter an incubation phase, hereby denoted as stage 1. No symptoms appear during stage 1, which lasts a minimum of 15 hours after initial exposure. After fifteen hours have elapsed SCP-XXXX will enter stage stage 2, which triggers once the infected host enters REM sleep for a period longer than 33 minutes.

After SCP-XXXX advances to stage 2, the infected will awake with recollection of a dream they had while sleeping. While dreams differ, they invariably involve a conversation in a stone room with an unnamed woman. While reports differ on the woman's appearance, all accounts agree that she has red hair and grey clothes. When requested to elaborate on the setting, subjects oftentimes report the existence of spacial anomalies, such as the stone room lacking any entrances or exit, or being able to see despite there being no source of light. When asked about the subject of the conversation, subjects invariably have a hard time remembering its contents, only that it was "pleasant" or that the woman was "enjoyable to talk to."

Once the subject's skin comes into contact with direct sunlight, SCP-XXXX will advance to stage 3. As with stage 1, no symptoms occur, but this time for a minimum of 60 hours. After this time has passed, SCP-XXXX will enter stage 4. In stage 4, the subject will experience a subtle yet gradual shift in physiological and psychological characteristics, including slight increases in blood pressure, resting heart rate, increased talkativeness, and paranoia. More notably, subjects will experience an increased academic interest in antiquated religions, specifically those relating to ancient fertility and love goddesses, such as Ishtar or Aphrodite. When questioned about these, subjects will often respond to "not worry about it" or that they are "simply going through a phase."

After at least 24 days of these changes becoming manifest, SCP-XXXX will enter stage 4, where infected subjects will begin propagating SCP-XXXX-1 by drawing it on surfaces they encounter at a rate of roughly once every 6 hours. Surfaces have included furniture, walls, notebooks, digital photo editing, and in rare cases even tattooing it onto their skin via permanent or semipermanent means. When questioned about it, subjects will have little recollection of doing so: if pressed, they may respond that they "were just bored," or "liked the design."

SCP-XXXX-1 was first discovered in a 19th century archaeological manuscript titled "
