Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a 6 by 6 meter containment chamber with no windows. If a change in SCP-XXXX’s flickering pattern is observed it is to be reported to the site director immediately. Anyone is free to enter the containment cell at any time as long as they are wearing a protective mask (see addendum 1) that lets no light into any part of the eye. SCP- XXXX is not to be transported. SCP-XXXX possesses no sentient properties. Because of this, it is easy to contain.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an office lighting panel that constantly flickers on and off in what we have determined morse code. The message reads “SOS”. The message is believed to be a luring mechanism prompting the viewer to take a closer look at it. Anyone who looks at SCP-XXXX for an extended period of time will suffer an eptileptic seizure and die minutes later. The reason behind the seizure is believed to have something to do with a special kind of light ray emitted from SCP-XXXX. The creator of the object is currently unknown.
SCP-XXXX was recovered in the janitors closet of an office building in [Data Expunged] on [Data Expunged]. The panel was discovered by a janitor who reported that “it just appeared in the janitors closet”. The office building in question has been sealed off to the public and everyone employed there has been relieved of their positions. After interviewing ended the janitor was given class D amnestics. It was confirmed that the janitor was not the creator of SCP-XXXX.
Anyone that suffers a seizure brought on by SCP-XXXX will die a few minutes later. Autopsies were done on several victims in which we discovered that their brains had turned into a goop-like substance with a viscosity similar to melted chocolate. How or why this happens is currently being researched. Another thing worth noting is that SCP-XXXX does not require a power source to function. How it does this is currently unknown but it is speculated that SCP-XXXX has a way of producing its own power.
Addendum 1: As we currently understand the only way to prevent SCP-XXXX’s effects are to block out all light on the visible spectrum emitted from it. The face mask features a protective lens over the eye socket which blocks out all light on the visible spectrum. Two miniature flashlights are sewn on the interior and exterior of each eye socket allowing the user to see. The face mask was created by doctor [Data Expunged]
The following is an interview of the janitor who discovered the light panel.
Interviewed: Robert [Data Expunged]/the janitor
Interviewer: Doctor Rank
The purpose of this interview is to find and collect data on what the janitor saw and did upon discovering SCP-XXXX
Doctor Rank: Hello sir I just have a few questions about what happened when you found that light panel in the janitors closet
Janitor: First I wanna know where the hell I am!
Doctor Rank: You are in a government facility undergoing questioning. Failure to comply is punishable by law.
Janitor: Alright, what do you want to know?
Doctor Rank: When you discovered that lighting panel in the janitors closet did you notice anything strange about it?
Janitor: Come to think of it I did. When I opened the door to the closet there was a light panel that I didn’t recall seeing the day before leaning up against one of the shelves. It was flickering on and off which was weird because it wasn't plugged in or anything.
Doctor Rank: Did anything happen to you?
Janitor: Well I got all nauseous like when I was looking at it.
Doctor Rank: Is that it?
Janitor: Well the guys that found me said I had a seizure and they called an ambulance but instead you guys showed up.
Doctor Rank: Are you the creator of the object in question?
Janitor: pfff I can barely work a flashlight.
Doctor rank: Those are all the questions I have for now.
We have learned that Robert [Data Expunged] did not die from the seizure induced by SCP-XXXX. The reason behind his survival is currently unknown. Class D amestics were administered and the subject was sent home.
