The Ballbearing
rating: 0+x

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be held through use of eight toroidal electromagnets measuring from 100cm to 108cm in diameter, each producing a toroidal electric field and a poloidal magnetic field. The electromagnets must maintain a combined field strength of at least ten (10) tesla. 6.2x109 EeV of energy must be supplied to the electromagnets containing SCP-XXXX. The energy is to be transferred from off-site nuclear reactors via supercooled hydrogen sulphide conduits. SCP-XXXX must not be removed from Site-██

Should the magnetic containment of SCP-XXXX fail due to a power outage, on-site security must be alerted, and full evacuation of the site must be carried out. All personnel have exactly twenty nine (29) minutes and thirty two (32) seconds before the capacitor banks connected to the electromagnetic coils are drained and a state of supercriticality is reached. At this point, all personnel must be at least fifty (50) kilometres from Site -██. For information pertaining to how the knowledge of the timings of SCP-XXXX was acquired, please refer to documents 1A-1C on the losses of Site-█, Site-██, and Site-██.

Should SCP-XXXX exhibit any signs of energy release, the site is to be evacuated of all staff as quickly as possible, whilst power is to be diverted from all adjacent sites to strengthen the magnetic field around SCP-XXXX.

Addendum: In cases beyond the 30th of March 20██, SCP-XXXX would contain enough potential energy to cause a tectonic catastrophe in the event of a case of supercriticality, therefore by order of O5-11 and O5-3, if the item cannot be suppressed then it must be quarantined within SCP-1689 or an instance of SCP-093 at any cost.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a perfectly spherical ballbearing measuring roughly 0.5mm in diameter at the time of writing, though this does vary inversely with the total energy stored within the object. SCP-XXXX is comprised of an unknown element, irreproducible by any known means.

The object was discovered within an abandoned warehouse believed to be linked to the Anderson Robotics company. An advanced nuclear fusion device was discovered inside the building, within which the ballbearing was suspended within a low-energy magnetic field. The corpse of an unidentified middle-aged male was found next to the device with a spherical portion of his chest missing. Trace amounts of the elements Uranium and Neptunium were discovered within the chamber of the device, along with 5 instances of █████ ███ after the careful removal and containment of the object.

The element of which the item is comprised has been identified as the single most electrophilic element known to the foundation. Its composition cannot be identified due to its nature. When SCP-XXXX is supplied with energy (in any form) exceeding 6.2x109 EeV, it is absorbed by the object and stored with no energy loss. When the object is no longer supplied with said energy, the energy will be instantly transferred into its surroundings with no measurable delay.

This instantaneous transfer of energy has been shown to cause complete dissociation of bonds in molecules surrounding the object, with a range which is directly proportional to the amount of energy stored in the device. Beyond this range, any excess energy will be converted into a mixture of sound, thermal energy, and light (mostly in the gamma region of the spectrum). Previous occurrences in the past have resulted in events similar to the detonation of a thermobaric bomb.

Addendum: "Many would question why we didn't simply never supply SCP-XXXX with energy, meaning that there would be no risk of a supercritical event. Unfortunately, the mechanism of the object is unknown to the staff studying this SCP, but from our research we have concluded that SCP-XXXX has a minimum capacitance constant, a minimum amount of energy which it will consistently reach through its extremely electrophilic nature causing the item to strip neighbouring atoms of their electrons. We have been lead to believe that this was the cause of the serious wounds suffered by the scientist who synthesised this element. So even if we did manage to keep the item at absolute zero (which we can't), it would still repeatedly detonate, in fact more often than it has while we've contained it with magnets and satisfied its energy needs through induction."
