SCP - 3970 (WIP/Concept)

The universal virus
Class: Varies

Special containment procedures

All computer equipment infected with a strand of SCP - 3970 are to be confiscated and destroyed by the foundation. All individuals under the effect of SCP - 3970 are to be put under quarantine immediately and they are to be given a high dose of ### class amnesiacs. If this fails then those subjects are to be relocated to a remote island in the Atlantic at coordinates ### ###

Equipment infected with SCP - 3970 strand A or C is relatively save to handle provided no display output or audio output is attached. Be weary that equipment infected with strand B will resist containment. See description of strand B for more information.

Those infected with SCP - 3970 strand A or C are also reflectively safe, however personal are required to wear sunglasses and earplugs when handling users infected with Strand B. It is also required to dart individuals infected with strand B with #### class sleep agent before engagement. Failure to do so will result in the termination of the subject's brain function by SCP -3970 strand B.

When studying the effects of SCP - 3970 strand A, B or C all communication to outside networks are to be cut. Scientists taking notes about the experiment are required to stand behind a sound proof wall of thick tinted glass. No cameras or machinery are allowed in the testing chamber.

In the event SCP - 3970 breaches containment, power and communication lines are to be cut as soon as humanly possible. All staff stationed on site are to be administrated a high dose of ### class amnesiacs except if SCP - 3970 strand B is involved. If SCP -3970 strand B is involved then all staff that where on site at the time of containment breach will be tested for signs of infection. If the staff member tests positive for SCP - 3970 strand B infection then they are to be terminated.

If the containment breach involved SCP - 3970 strand A or B then all equipment on site are to be scanned for signs of infection. If signs of infection are to be found within a device then that device is to be destroyed or locked away for further experimentation.

The foundation has installed [data redacted] on all foundation mainframes. This should suppress or clear any SCP - 3970 strand C code if it is detected. More testing is still required to gage the effectiveness of [data redacted] on SCP - 3970 strand A or B.

Description:

General/SCP - 3970 strand A

Class : Euclid

SCP - 3970 is a virus that both effects computers and humans. Testing has shown that those who are technologically challenged are particularly vulnerable to this SCP. Typically victims of SCP - 3970 receive an anomalous email, message or sms with an attachment from someone they know. Once this attachment is downloaded a virus gets installed onto there computer or system. See research notes B7 for samples of messages used to spread SCP - 3970 .

The virus seems to posses an ability to infect nearly any operating system on the planet without fail. Extreme tests had revealed it could even Incorporate itself into the operating systems of game consoles or cell phones. Even if the OS appears code wise to be uninfectable. However detection is easy due to the viruses poor resource management which causes the inflected device to slow down drastically.

The virus is slow acting. The computer part of this virus has 2 stages. It will first gather information about the user and or users of the computer system. Once it thinks its learned enough, it moves onto phase 2, reprogram. It’ll prompt the user with a personalized pop-up which when clicked will either display a rapid slide-show of moving images or it’ll play out a seemingly random selection of beeps and blips.

The user will, however, continue using his/her computer as if nothing had happened. However researches have observed that SCP - 3970 had in fact downloaded itself into the brain of the user within that instance. The virus goes dormant while the subject is awake, but when it detects that the user has fallen asleep SCP -3970 will then take control over the subject’s body and will lure them to their computer where SCP - 3970 will use the subject to do one of 2 things.

If SCP - 3970 detects that the user has adequate mental capabilities, it will use the user’s intellect to improve itself. This is what makes SCP - 3970 notoriously difficult to destroy or identify since it uses this small selection of its lobotomized hoard to evolve itself contentiously. This makes detection near impossible.

However if it detects the user lacks the adequate mental capabilities or if it is pleased with the work the user has done to it. It will instruct the user to mass mail the virus to everyone the user knows, often using the knowledge that instance of SCP - 3970 had gained earlier to personalize the messages. Often this stage is when the Foundation finds and contains the subject infected with the virus.

There is also a rare chance for the virus to enter a dormant state. Think of it as the virus keeping a backup of itself. Its been nearly impossible to detect users who have entered this state as they exhibit no signs of brainwashing.

If the Virus detects its hosts live to be in extreme danger. It’ll then hijack the user completely, overwriting every fiber of brain function. After this it’ll direct the user to a terminal or a computer were the user will write a new copy of the virus from scratch. After this it’ll instruct the user to send it to everyone they know as there last “will and testament” before terminating that user completely.

More research had revealed that the administration of # class amnesiacs does cure the virus within humans to some degree. Sleep walking is a president symptom of those SCP-3970 infects, however no means have jet been found to clear it from any system it has infected.

As SCP - 3970 is prone to mutation, quite a few strands exist that the foundation is aware off. The most common strand is strand A. Although SCP - 3970 by itself may appear to posses some form of intelligence, it does not. SCP - 3970 will always choose the same option when presented with the exact same variables as input regardless if it had previously made the right or wrong choice.

SCP - 3970 Strand B

Class: Keter

This strand of SCP 3970 is extremely dangerous as users who get infected get there brains overwritten immediately after infection. Users become hollow husks of themselves once they are infected. SCP 3970 strand B may maintain some chunks of the user's memories in order to spread itself more effectively or to try and avoid detection.

Users with this strand can also imitate the beeping noises used by the virus to upload itself into the user's mind. Effectively this means the users can spread the virus orally to other people. However due to degree of human error this copy, will in most cases, not be perfect. This often means it'll behave more like Strand A or even C.

Stand B will also rearrange infected machines into an array mimicking a botnet. The purpose of this behavior is jet unknown however it is theorized to help with infecting more machines with SCP - 3970 strand B . SCP - 3970 strand B however lacks the polish strand A's learning algorithms have and thus strand B struggles infecting humans directly in the manor strand C and A typically.

Someone infected with this strand is to be considered brain dead and should be terminated on sight. Equipment infected with this strand are not to be powered on after detection. In most cases if this where to happen the virus will attempt to destroy the equipment, often SCP - 3970 strand B achieves this by disabling overheating fail-saves within the infected device. This often causes infected equipment to cache fire.

Data on SCP - 3970 strand B's full capabilities are unknown due to the extreme difficulty of obtaining samples of SCP - 3970 strand B to study.

SCP - 3970 Strand C

Class: Safe

Those infected with SCP - 3970 strand C will fail to spread SCP - 3970 stand C since all email clients SCP - 3970 strand C was compatible with are no longer in use. The intelligence check found in SCP - 3970 strand C appears to be outdated and will only recognize user as being inelegant if they're familiar with 1980s sitcoms.

Users infected with SCP - 1970 strand C will not stay infected as SCP - 3970 strand C lacks [Data expunged]. It seems to be the only strand of SCP - 3970 to lack this safeguard. ### class amnesiacs should still be administered to insure the subject is completely cured.

Discovery notes.

SCP - 3970 strand A was first discovered by doctor ### on #/ #/2014 after doing a routine security scan of site # mainframe. Luckily SCP -3970 strand A was contained before the virus could spread to other SCP foundation mainframes. However it was found to be impossible to remove the virus by any means other then destroying the mainframe.

A full investigation into the incident had revealed the virus had originated from doctor ### computer who was found dead 3 days prior at his computer. Cause of death at that point was considered to be shock as a short in the alarm system had caused a false “Thaumiel” level alert to sound. Staff at site # were also reported waking up in front of there computers with no prior memory on how they ended up there following the incident.

Closer forensic analysis of brain tissue recovered from doctor ### had revealed a lack of any distinguishable neural pathways present within the brain tissue and the staff who reported waking up in front of there computers without any memory on how they got there had all received an email from doctor ### titled "My last will and testament" immediately following the incident. Foundation members were urged copy down the contents of any email they had received from doctor # and then to delete the email. Under no condition was the attachment in the email to be downloaded.

Before it was discovered that ### class amnesiacs could cure users infected with SCP - 3970 strand A to a degree, the foundation had resorted to relocating those infected to a research center in [redacted] where modern electronics, such as computers, had been outlawed.

SCP - 3970 Strand B was discovered by [Redacted]

SCP - 3970 strand C was recovered while foundation staff were studying old email server databases to find the origin of SCP - 3970
