Containment Procedures: The rural country home, located within the jurisdiction of the state of ███████, has been purchased by SCP Foundation and changed to Site-███. Only one dirt path wide enough for a horse drawn wagon exists as an entrance/exit to the site. The house is a old 1860s mansion made of white stone with a horse barn standing in the front of the property and a large cotton field acting as the front lawn. Slave huts and/or homes stand out of sight behind the main house surrounded by wire fences. The mansion boasts a large American flag (i.d. Scp-3988-5) supported by a pole which was measured to be at a 43 degree angle vertically off the wall.
Site-███ is surrounded by barbed wire fencing to prevent accidental or intentional entrance onto the site. Security cameras have been installed to monitor the area for trespassers. Small research teams may enter the site and the surrounding structures with only the formally recorded and expressed permission of their head researcher.
Anyone caught entering Site-███ will be charged with trespassing as dealt with within the state of ███████. Any deaths that occur shall be covered up and survivors/witnesses shall have amnestic administered and released if a trespassing charge in deemed unnecessary. SCP-3988-5 has never attempted a escape from the property and has only left the pole from which it hangs during research.
Description: SCP-3988-5 is a large American flag (see details above on line seven (7) of Containment Procedures) that is made of an unknown substance and is approximately 5’x7’ or 12.7x17.78 cm. The mansion and cotton farm (including the slave living quarters) was once owned by an American patriot and high ranking member of the Confederacy known by the name of ████████ █████. SCP-3988-5 appears as a normal American flag but, besides the unknown substance that it is composed of, has a few other anomalies. SCP-3988-5, sometimes referred to as Patriot by some researchers, may only be handled by people of pure American decent (i.d. of the USA). If any other person(s) touch the flag Patriot will violently attack the person(s) until they have died. Patriot is impossible to stop once it has commenced its killing functions. Patriot will also leave its pole to kill then refix itself once it has finished. The manners that it uses to kill its victims vary, however the most common method used it suffocation. A pure American may handle Patriot like a normal flag.
All methods used to test for the substance of the flag have failed due to the tightness and lack of seams as well as simply taking a piece off for examination has also failed. Scp-3988 has been removed from it pole for an experiment on █████ ██, ████. The experiment was to see how Patriot would behave without a fixed position. The results were peculiar; Scp-3988-5 moved over to the nearest wall, using its corners as legs, and climbed to a sufficient height for a flag to hang from then locked itself to the wall. Once the flag was trying to be removed by a American research assistant it did not budge. Once it’s pole was moved and held at about 23,623’/60cm from the object did it latch onto the pole and leave the wall.
The flag was tested for weaknesses however it did not seem to have any. It is non-flammable and does not take damage from weaponry (only a gloc-17 was approved for testing by the head of the research department) the bullets stopped upon contact with the object and fell to the ground.
Incident 3988-5: At 23:56 on ██/██/20██ two (2) human males successfully attained access onto the property by braking down the gate and driving two atvs to the house. One male (attempted to fire a BB gun at the flag pole for fun (as it appeared from recorded footage). The BBs hitting the pole caused it to bend and fall to the ground where the male with the weapon started to jump on it. Scp-3988-5 started to suffocate the man by cutting off is oxygen supply and by shoving part of one of its corners into the mouth of the man, all attempts to stop Patriot from killing its victim were futile and the male died. Upon further investigation the deceased male was discovered to have a mother whom was approx. 40% Chinese. SCP-3988-5 made no attempt to kill the other male whose ancestry was pure American. This remains the only fully recorded and observed death caused by Scp-3988-5 outside of testing and research.
