The skull of Midas

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

SCP-XXXX(2)

SCP-XXXX

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained within a Standard Secure Locker at Site 19. During transfer or testing of SCP-XXXX, present staff are to wear proper protective gear covering their entire body, are to be accompanied by two (2) security guards. Staff not wearing appropriate protective gear are to be removed from the area. Failure to comply willingly will result in forced removal. During testing, the aforementioned security guards are to stand by in case of SCP-XXXX's secondary effect taking place.

Description: SCP-XXXX has the shape and dimensions of an average male human skull, although It weighs approximately 24.3kg. It consists entirely out of solid gold, but only contains the outer shape of a skull, with a hollow inside. It seems to have received some damage with scratches and marks found all over the skull, but no damage to make a particular note of, however, this would prove that SCP-XXXX is not unbreakable and can be destroyed. If it would have any remaining anomalous effect once destroyed, however, is purely up for debate until further proven. The eye sockets, nasal and ear channels are all blocked off, although the foramen magnum remains open, and allows one to look inside.

SCP-XXXX has a primary effect that consists of being able to turn all biological life into pure gold statues, referred to as an instance of SCP-XXXX-A. This effect will only take place when a subject comes in physical contact with SCP-XXXX. The process is almost instantaneous and irreversible, killing individuals upon contact. Any non-biological items or dead tissue will not be affected by this. The "statues" have shown to only be a hard shell depicting the subject's outer appearance. The layer of gold only has a 3mm thickness and contains all remaining biological material from the body (such as bones, muscles, organs, etc.) within the outer layer, broken down and gathered up into a semi-liquid mass around the bottom of the body, as proven both in x-rays and dissections of SCP-XXXX-A instances. Any nonbiological items that are in contact with the subject, such as clothes, will not be affected by this, as previously noted. Although, if a subject has physical contact with the skin of another living biological subject as they are experiencing the primary effect of SCP-XXXX, both subjects will fuse at the point where they come in contact and turn into a singular statue, creating an instance of SCP-XXXX-A.

The statues seemingly take on all the natural properties of gold, as they can be reshaped, melted down, and are even capable of conducting electricity, possibly giving them some usefulness within the foundation. Although, the number of subjects needed for this side effect to become useful, would be ludicrous, and all requests to utilize SCP-XXXX in this way has so far been denied by The Ethics Committee, until further notice.

SCP-XXXX has shown a secondary, possibly telepathic effect, that urges subjects, once noticing it, to steal it for themselves. However, this effect can be avoided, simply by covering, encasing, hiding or moving SCP-XXXX. Subjects already affected by SCP-XXXX's secondary effect can be stopped and hindered, by moving SCP-XXXX to a different location that is out of visible reach from the subject, covering, or encasing it.

Discovery: SCP-XXXX was discovered in the lignite mines located outside of Kütahya, Turkey in 2000. During a standard mining operation, some of the workers uncovered a tomb. The tomb was found to be mostly intact, but empty, only being one (1) corridor with a single room at the end of it. The walls inside the tomb were all blank stone walls, with no decoration or writing on them. The room only housed a stone coffin and its contents. After opening the coffin, it was discovered to the only items contained within the coffin, was the ancient remains of a human body, which testing revealed to have been a human male that lived sometime between 2100-1800bc. The body also showed zero anomalous properties although surprisingly staying mostly intact. The body was wrapped up in a cloak and undergarments, such as one would wear during the era of ancient Greece, although heavily damaged. The head itself was separated from the body and was instead wrapped inside a piece of cloth.

After unwrapping the cloth, it was quickly discovered that it had contained an item of anomal origin when it had shown its primary effect on one of the workers who discovered it after he had tried touching it. The other workers who witnessed it, quickly exited the tomb as they thought it to be haunted, and made a call to the local authorities who then notified the foundation. The foundation sent a small dispatch team that gave all the miners who were present in the discovery of the tomb Class-A amnestics and was told that the miner who died during the incident, instead ended up in dying a tragic mining accident. The miner who experienced the primary effect, hereby referred to as an instance of SCP-XXXX-A, was brought back as well, for research purposes. (See Addendum XXXX-02)

Addendum XXXX-01: SCP-XXXX seems to only be able to affect living organisms, and so far has not been able to affect any kind of dead matter or inorganic items. How effective this ability is, has yet to be seen, although so far it has been able to affect any living creature, and could seemingly affect anything, no matter the size or amount of subject, as long as they follow SCP-XXXX's requirements. However, this is purely theoretical and has yet to receive any real confirmation from tests.

Addendum XXXX-02: Research done on the first known instance of SCP-XXXX-A, shows that the insides of the body have collapsed and broken down from within and gathered up inside the body, as a semi-liquid mass that will remain within the layer of gold until released. The layer is fairly thin, being only 5mm thick, although still showing that it contains the properties of gold. Even after transport, the gold frame had maintained the imitation of the subject's skin and pose perfectly, as of when they first had experienced SCP-XXXX's anomalous properties. Going over the body's orifices, show that they have been blocked off, similar to those of SCP-XXXX.
